aCK-2 Seeing Red

lol, now that I look more closely Brennus does have a vague resemblence to Jim Duggan.

That proposed garrison looks good and would be difficult to get through, especially if the defence is backed up by nearby reinforcements, although that could be prohibitively expensive.

Give Brennus a 2x4 and the resemblence would no longer be vague I bet...

Garrison is more of a pipe dream than a practical garrison...I think it appealed to me because my other SG has put me in some sticky situations where I could have used a garrison like that. :D

As far as the settler goes...I kinda forgot about the barb town to our west.

We can send a scouting party from Satsuma.
Two swords and two axes can go west to see if the barb city is still there and if it is get an idea of what kind of stack we will need to take it out. At the very least we can scope out the area around that city so we know if we are going to keep it or raze and replant it elsewhere.

Hey guys, i'm gonna be out of town till sunday night... just letting everyone know
oh, and good set sturick. pesky english... if they return we shall taunt them a second time... err... or something like that.

Okay a DE is up, but is confused as to what our plans are? Will probably play tomorrow or later today :smoke: - so yeah, check on barb town... What to tech and waht to build?

1. sturick
2. Diamondeye (perma skip looks like)
3. Goblinmarine <--- UP
4. Liquidated (drugged, just skip this week, liq feels horrible)
5. Whosit
6. S.ilver

Cheers!
-Liq'd

see it, got it
gonna re-read the past few posts to see if a plan it outlined anywhere... but just in case one isn't... what are we looking to tech and build?

That's exactly what I was asking :p And no, Liq, not permaskip. I had a day where I could play (maybe even two), but I had no idea what the team wanted to do. The next couple of days, no play for DE .

As for tactics, we're Aggressive and playing low difficulty. How about crushing the world, for starters?

Well as far as plans go...this is what I think.

Techwise, now that we have Currency, I think Masonry--->Construction to get our catas and phants ready to throw the smackdown on Pacal.

I would prep the scouting party to check out the area near the barb city.
We have a settler in the oven so we need to find a home for him.

Unless you see some another resource in the barb cities BFC, I would raze the city and replant 2E.
This would make it easier to defend. Plus we will have less of a border with Genghis...rather not deal with him until after we have taken out Pacal.
EDIT: Also I think that Genghis planted a city 1S of the horses...if this is the case then that city will mesh nicely with a city 2E of the barbs.

I imagine that when we declare on Pacal that he will call on Genghis to help him out.
So if we do get a city near the barb site we should load it up with spears.
This way we can hopefully fight a defensive war with Genghis while we fight an offensive war with Pacal.

Another option for the settler is if we get into a fake war with Liz.
Then we can raze Coventry and use the settler to settle POS dot.
This alternative is secondary to the barb city plan.

EDIT: I forgot a very important component to this plan.
Before you attack Coventry you must tell Liz that her mother was a hamster and her father smells of elderberries!

Adding a couple of workers is always good.
Beefing up the military is also good.

The only question that I had was who can we sign open borders with.
Since most of the land has been grabbed I assume that we can sign with Monty, Sully, and Brennus. Liz is out of the question since she is public enemy #1.
I assume that Pacal and Genghis should be avoided as well.

Well~, can't argue much with the tech plan, since smack-down is the goal. I'm glad you gave us a plan, sturick. For some reason, I haven't been able to keep track of where this game is going . . . . But I've been keeping up with the tread! Honest!

Quick question: I don't use BUG, but is the only way to figure out who is whose worst enemy with that program? Aside from asking a civ what they think of another leader, I'm not sure how to gather that kind of intelligence.

Good point about Pacal calling in the Genghis Cavalry. I'm a little confused on one point: Are we waiting for the dam to burst on the eastern front before committing ourselves to war against the Maya, or are we just waiting for Construction?

Whosit...BUG should be your new best friend.
Is there a reason that you don't use it? So much information is at your disposal with it.
If it doesn't say in the F4 diplo screen then I don't know.

As far as going to war with Mayaland...its a little of both.
We want war in the east to distract everyone for when we do declare on Pacal.
But more importantly we wouldn't stand a chance trying to take anything away from Pacal without some siege. The first Mayan city that we will attack is on a hill, so it will be a tough nut to crack. A jumbo or two in our attacking stack will help to give us a diversified SoD.

EDIT: I'm afraid I may have misinterpreted your question about attacking Maya Whosit.
I apologize if my answer implied that you thought we might attack before Construction. The thought of that never crossed my mind...honest!
You were asking if we could attack Maya before war breaks out in the east and after we have construction all learned up.
Hangs head in shame...:( Forgive me???

Ha ha, no worries about the misinterpretation. Its not like I don't say enough silly things as it is. Anyway, the gist I got is that the ideal moment to strike is when two conditions are met: We have Construction for the much needed siege weaponry, and when everyone finally pounces on Liz.

Two thoughts: No, wait, one? I forgot something . . . . Well, if war hasn't broken out by the time we've armed ourselves, should we consider bribing one or more Civs to start the war? I don't really know how the dynamics work and I'd only consider this if it might snowball (get one Civ in to break the ice, then the rest declare war). If AIs don't do that, then never mind.

As far as BUG goes, your admonishment has made me download and install it. Aside from making my game run a bit slower, it seems to work as advertised (I've seen enough BUG infected screen shots to have an idea of what's there). The main reason I didn't use it, I think, is that I just never really add mods to my games; aside from official patches, the out-of-the-box game is generally good enough for me.

Though, I think the real answer is that I find the BUG mod less aesthetically pleasing than the plain user-interface. It's not horrid, and it's not really intrusive, I think it's just that some of the BUG features don't mesh with the original layout as much as I would personally like.

Edit: Also, the way BUG names units. I've heard it can be turned off, so I'll have to see how to do that.

But, despite all my griping, I acknowledge the usefulness of the critter, so I'm sure that I'll soon be a BUG convert. I really should have picked it up since all those messages will probably help a micro-management-impaired player like me.

we’re researching COL... swap that out for masonry
run through the cities... they all look ok. poor kagoshima... 12 turns to grow, 40 to the library. i could move the tiles around but it’d be 24 to grow and finish the library the same turn so i’ll whip it when it grows.

the mayans plopped another town between us and barb dot. gonna slot a library in satsuma after it finishes the spear just to head off that culture battle until we crush that pesky city. we do have a settler waiting for a decent spot to plop a city. we hadn’t discussed it and we’re breaking even at 30% science right now and prepping for a future war, so i felt dropping another city would tank the economy too much.

Good discussion all around guys. Sorry I haven't been active this past weekend; crunch time for the last round of midterms. I'll take a look at the save and comment tomorrow, but we really need to get the military going with Brennus in WHEOOH. Genghis is pushing our borders as well, so we'll need to pick a fight within the next turnset or two.

Ugh, I hate it when AIs just plop cities willy-nilly . . . . I take it I'm next since Liq is out of the action? Umm . . . I'm also up in another game (this seems familiar); I'm pretty swamped, but I'll see if I can play a set tomorrow, too, otherwise perhaps early Thursday. Not in a position to look at the save at the moment, but so far as the report goes I don't see anything wrong.

Since construction is in, I take it that I'll want to start cranking out catapults and a few war elephants? I'll do my level best to keep an eye on Brennus, but if we're lucky, this is the Liz-Smackdown that we've been waiting for. My hope is that I'll be able to "peaceably" prepare for war, whereupon I'll hand it off to, uh . . . S.ilver. Wow. That does sound familiar.

Anyway, my brain isn't worky-right, so I'll let all of you hash out research path and such. What kind of army composition are we looking for? If I recall: Spearmen on the western border to handle Khan if he aids Pacal; I'm guessing an attack stack with swordsmen, axemen, war elephants, and of course catapults. I'm pulling numbers out of the air, but am I looking at 6 Catapults, 3-4 War Elephants, 5-6 Swordsmen, and 3-4 Axemen for the attack stack, or is that too small? Too large?! I dunno. I'll build stuff. Should I park 'em all in Satsuma?

It didn't sound like any of Pacal's garrison's were terribly large, but the screen still says that he's stronger than us. Um, yeah, no more ideas . . . .

Oops. Forgot we didn't have that. Should I tech it, or see if I can find a fair trade in order to get War Elephants as quickly as possible? Or would it be moot . . . I suppose I could just build catapults in our production cities while Horseback Riding is being researched.
