Hey guys,

I'm trying to make the jump from Noble to Prince, and I feel I am not paying enough attention to city placement and specialization. In fact, I do not lose, but I have a very hard time winning. Usually, time victory or very late domination.

So, I started doing some dotmapping of my latest games, and would like some feedback about it.
The settings are Vanilla, Pangea, normal, Prince, Epic, all other settings to default. I am playing with Egypt - Spiritual and Creative.

Above is the original map, with Thebes North, Saladin SW, Toku South and Kubilay SE. I already killed Washington halfway between me and Toku

Above is the initial city placements I'd consider. I'd like to block the other guys to get as many places as possible, but with that I'd need at least the yellow and purp city, while the 2 others would help me get stone, marble and ivory. I'd probably try to turn Thebes into a commerce city, yellow into a prod city, but I can not figure out what to do with the others.

Thx for the help guys !

Bienvenue!

Explore all the blackness around your capital before placing more cities.

DaveMcW chooses precisely the same placement I would. Eventually, a fishing village will be placed to pick up the fish to your east.

The immediate area I would be looking at is the darkness further south and east. Maïs on a river is a very powerful tile.

Hmm, Exploitation, T. du Bronze, Poterie... Vous avez recherche Animaux Bonhomie?

Thanx guys,

I've been exploring a bit more around the capitol, and I think my thirdcity will go near toku to claim the gems/spices/corn.
I'll look at the others later on, to see where the AI placed its next cities.
Btw, I forgot to research Animal Husbandry (which is "Elevage in French), guess I forgot about those cows. I beelined to alphabet to trade techs early on.

Dave read my mind. City on plains hill = extra bonus. Copper and marble is good production, close to the capital and lots of floodplains. Very nice city indeed.

Yes, the city with marble and copper would be my choice as well.
I would turn that city into a military production city initially and
later into a great person farm.

Followed your advice for the second city, it was great. Helped with some nice great scientists, and with the ressources, it was quite a good military city til mid game.
I settled the third city down with the corn, suger and gems, but saladin and kubilay expanded too fast for me to take a lot more cities ;) I had to crush the Japanese south for more land.
Ended in 1836, diplo victory (saladin voted me, but anyway I lacked only 3% land to get domi - only Cyrus was left with Saladin)
Thx guys !

You also forgot about War Chariots? Animal Loving is a very big deal for the Egyptian leaders.

I was going to say your city is too far north. Has a silly bridge and funy dome building. Lacks any real dedication to sport, has a crappy casino and costs too much to live in.

Some great bars though.
