After the Launch

Once a few more people have expressed their opinions, I'll summarize the settings that were agreed and get a final approval before I start. If we pick religions, everyone will need to make their choice.

However, before I do anything, we either need one more player to sign up or I could assign said player a random Civ. I'm not sure how to change the leaders once I've launched the game, so I need to know what they all are from the start.

EDIT: Tech trading on or off is likely the biggest hurdle. If you want it on, suggest wether you want it wide open or "No Tech Brokering" where you can only trade techs you've self researched.

I am currently inviting 2 players for that 1 slot, if both decline I will post at the Planet Fall site.
Lets give this a few days while we collect the picks for the options.

The problem is, an AI cannot play as one of the Planet Fall Factions, they function at the bare minimum producing lots of weak units

after receiving a kind invite from Ray.

Hurray!!

Ok excellent, pick a leader, but wait there's more! If you act now as a bonus you'll get not 1, not 2, but 3 Great People! Choose any combination of 3, after the game starts you can use them however you wish! But do not post your picks here, PM Mitchum (click on Mitchum username and a drop down opens, click on "Send Private Message", put picks or something in the subject line and adds your picks)

There are 2 things to note if not more, 1 is this is a Race to launch your SpaceShip and 2 other may Sabbatage or siege your city(s) and you too have these options

So pick your Great People carefully!

Secondly and very important! Go to Post #2 and find my link to install The Planet Fall Mod, there is even an option to install original sounds which I HIGHLY Recommend (it doesn't take up much room and doesn't effect any other aspect of BTS)

Edit: Oops installing this mod now ensure it works for you and gives you time to familiarize with it, it will be a Great Challenge !!!

Thanks for joining ! :D

Here is where we are so far. The items that have yet to be ressolved are listed below in RED. I can't even start making the map until I have answers for leaders (oliver), speed, world wrap and tech trading. The other items in red can be modified after I've already generated the map.

Players:

Eclipse: Ragner of the Vickings (The Voyager) - GP choice received
Nighthawk: Gandhi of India - GP choice received
Imp. Knoedel: Lincoln of America - GP choice received
Natuland: Fredrick of Germany - GP choice received
Michkov: Random - GP choice received
Hercules: Peter of Russia - GP choice received
olivertownshend: Random - No GP choice received

Map Type: One island per civ
Leader: Chosen
Size: Standard
Climate: Temperate
Sealevel: Low (more land)
Era: Modern
Speed: Normal (Imp. Knoedel, Nighthawk) or Quick (Eclipse, Hercules, olivertownshend)
AI: None
Barbs: Off
World Wrap: Cylindrical (Natuland) or Toroidal (Imp. Knoedel,Hercules, Nighthawk))
Resources: Balanced
Options: No Tribal Villages, No Random Events, No Vassal States
Tech Trading: No (Hercules, Imp. Knoedel, Nighthawk))
Religions: Pick your own (Imp. Knoedel, Nighthawk) or Random (Natuland, Hercules)
Shrines:: Yes (Natuland, Imp. Knoedel, Hercules)
Victory Condition: Space
Civics: Default (Natuland, Hercules, Nighthawk)) or an extra GP that can be used for GA (Imp. Knoedel)
Starting Units:
  • One pre-settled, pre-improved city
  • 1 settler (for city #2)
  • 2 workers
  • 2 explorers
  • 6 machine guns (can defend/explore but cannot attack)
  • 2 caravels or 2 subs?
  • 3 great people of your choice
  • 1 missionary

Should we start with contact between all of the players? The reason I ask is that it seems odd that we'd be in the modern era and no one would know each other. The options are:

  1. All players know each other and the entire map. (Eclipse, Imp. Knoedel, olivertownshend)
  2. All players know each other and where the capital is of each AI (could be center square, 9-tile inner ring or BFC).
[*]All players know each other but only know their own starting continent (the whole thing or just around the capital?) and have no clue where everyone else is. (Hercules)
  3. No one knows anyone else.

Does anyone have the time to run a test hot seat game with 3 players and see if you can determine what would happen after one player wins, for the purposes of determining second and third?

As for the game options - doesnt matter to me, I'll go with whatever the masses decide. I would prefer normal speed though. And I'll take Buddhism, consistent with the Indians!

Alright here's my further contribution to settings.

Speed: Caught between normal and quick. So whichever gets us all to spaceship launch the quickest. I go for quick, unless that gives an undue extra advantage to certain civs.
Maps : Toroidal
Shrines: Yes
Contact: option 3 Contact yes but map not known, that requires satellite. But civs can trade maps, after caravel contact?
Civics: Default, but what does that mean at the start? Environmentalism included? All civics available?
Religion: I'll take what's left or random.

Civics: Default, but what does that mean at the start? Environmentalism included? All civics available?

Default means that you'll start in the civics that you start every game with (i.e. Barbarism, Despotism, Tribalism, Decentralization and Paganism), which means that your civics don't help you. It will take 2 to 4? turns of revolt if you change all 5 civics on the first turn (not sure the number of turns). Environmentalism is available with Medicine, which is an Industrial tech, so it should be available.

To avoid this anarchy, you could:

1. Pick a Spiritual leader.
2. Use one of your three GPs on a Golden Age.
3. Give everyone another GP (i.e. 4 total) to use on a GA if desired.
4. Have me launch a GA for everyone so that it's a level playing field, although this minimizes that value of anyone picking a Spiritual leader, so we may not want to go with this option.

OK. I've updated my list with inputs from Hercules and Nighthawk.

It looks like:

Speed: 50/50 split.
World Wrap: 75/25 split for Toroid
Tech Trading: unanimous for No
Religions: 50/50 split. I suggest that those that have picked religions get them and the rest will be random.
Civics: 75/25 split for Default.
Contact: 66/33 split for full map knowledge vs. contact only

Also, I still need Leader choice (oliver) and GP choice (oliver and Michkov).

I can gives this a try tonight, I'll report ASAP, actually Ill run a no password PBEM

Why Caravels and not Submarines btw?

Unless Oliver trumps my comment, he's used to random Leaders choices on Ladder Duels

Hey how do you unpause a game????? clicking end turn button, spacebar and enter doesn't do anything, what am I forgetting?

Speed: 3/2 split favoring Quick
World Wrap: 3/1 split favoring Toroid
Tech Trading: 3/0 split favoring No
Religions: Those that have picked religions (i.e. Imp. Knoedel and Nighthawk) get them and the rest will be random. if you want to pick your religion, speak up.
Civics: 3/1 split favoring Default.
Contact: 3/1 split favoring full map knowledge vs. contact only
Starting units: 2 caravels or 2 subs?

So, I'm going to go with the items above in RED unless I hear otherwise.

I also need to know if everyone is okay with starting with 2 caravels or if you want to switch to 2 subs.

Also, I still need GP choices from olivertownshend.

@ Olivertownshend

I think you have to have 5 posts before you can send Private Messages, so make one more post in this thread and then send me your choices.

I'll be away from home for the next week and a half and likely won't have a chance to work on generating the map, which will take quite a bit of time to make sure things are balanced. I hope you guys don't mind the slight delay. I was prepared to work on it this week but it took a while to agree on the game settings.
