AG13 - OCC Demigod

this going very well, agree with all the plans and taking out cities from the west.
we can channel Sumer units the way we want it. if they are weaker than Persia, open mountains. if they are stronger, let them use flat land only. I like this game because we more or less steered the AI into wars.

maybe we get a leader to rush those improvements

Had a quick look at save..
We can make more shields per turn by moving a round citizens a bit.. its currently working high commerce tiles

Persia still dont have rubber connected... its sitting between the old dutch cities they captured ages ago.. but since they are fascist they still havent been able to build culture in those cities :D

Because of this it would be relatively safe to trade replacable parts to persia for the corporation so we can build a stock exchange

Edit: Nevermind.. they have rubber on one of their islands

I took a look at the game and recent post and I am unsure of the game plan.

Are we planing for the standard ToE grab of AT / Electronics, or try to get closer to tanks. I can't play any turns as I would trade RP to some to get Corporation to free up better techs for the ToE game. Please voice your opinion and I will play tomorrow...

I still lean toward AT / Electronics.

The primary advantages of Atomic and Electronics is trading, denying Hover, and getting a pollution free powerplant.

Alternatively we could trade for Corp and get Refining and Steal. That makes us only 2 techs from Flight or 3 techs from Tanks. So the question is whether we think we need these or will the game be all but over by the time we research 3 (or 2) more techs.

The other issue is we may want to turn off Research for a while to upgrade our Cannon, Knights, and Rifles.

Thinking it through, I do want to upgrade our units, so maybe getting At Theory and Electonics is better. We can then trade At theory for Corp rather than RP which I don't like to do. We can turn of research and use or two techs for trading.

I think I do want to go for TOE so we have trading power without trading away RP.

in my opinion, AT and electronic do not benefit us much. we can get a coal plant with a leader.
we should either go for sanitation or tanks. sanitation will help boost our city. tanks of course will help a lot too.

The game plan? Well, most important to me is that we:

1-Get saltpeter (razing the Inca capital seems the way to go there, EDIT: it will also give us rubber)
2-Declare on Persia and hurt them (I like the help of Sumeria, they can't/shouldn't grow peacefully).
3-Ensure that one way or the other both Sumeria and Persia won't be able to take a breath until the end of the game, when we win by conquest!

The way I would go:
-Selling Replaceable Parts will NOT make this road easier. I hate that idea. We'd fight infantry too early with our few Sipahi.
-I would want to max out our production at some point, which we can do with Sanitation, Factory and Coal Plant.
-After maxing out production I can see us building Sipahi/Infantry/Artillery only. Maybe only interupted by Stock Exchange.
- I don't seee a need to research after getting ourselves ToE. I would choose Sanitation and Atomic Theory. Sanitation is needed, AT can be sold.
- We can get cheap techs in peacedeals. I'm sure Persia and Sumeria will help us advance!
- Pillage Persia. When moving our SoD through their lands, use our Sipahi(army) to cripple them.
- We can probably win this with artillery/Sipahi. Just look at our last 25 turns.

But to me the most important to me is that we don't allow Persia and Sumeria some rest. We have a Sipahi army, which won't be attacked when fully healed and is the best unit to walk this earth. Also: fully healed elite infantries are safe vs the AI as well (unless -maybe- vs elite cav)!

Sanitation is a very cheap tech. I would rather the AI research it and we trade for it than taking it our ourselves with TOE.

It sounds like we all agree on the main game plan. Inca followed by Persia almost immediately. Hittites can be destroyed on the way.

I don't think we need to pillage Persia. I would rather get our Cannon upgraded and destroy the cities rather than just pillaging.

I agree that Sanitation is cheap, but it is not something which the AI likes to research. That's why I suggested it.

And regarding pillaging: I mainly mentioned it because it is often forgotten. Artillery is the slowest unit and Sipahi often has to wait for that. Certainly the army. They can make themselves useful in these turns by pillaging the lands they pass and then get back in a SoD.

I can drop luxury tax to 0%. I manage to get Scientific Method in one turn.

Time to break out the calculator and figure of burning some shields would get ToE faster. It appears we get it faster by not switching to factory due to the wastage of 48 shields and a turn of production. I stick with Military Academy for one more turn.

1360 AD
(IT) Hittites and Sumeria sign a peace treaty.
Persia destroys the Inca.

1365 AD
We can no longer build rails due to the borders expanding at Marad.
(IT) Persia starts Suffrage.

(IT) Sumeria steals the furs colony and the rubber. Do you get a sense what is coming up?
However, Persia just stole the salt site. To bad we can't hit both at once. :hammer:

1375 AD
I dial up Persia and buy Saltpeter for $11/turn. I spent $540 to upgrade 6 knights.
(IT) Sumeria is REALLY pissing me off.

1380 AD
Did I mention we have 6 artillery so far? At $120 an upgrade it will take awhile.

1385 AD
This is just painful as I can't declare WAR on Sumeria for 10 more turns.
I buy iron from Persia for $23/turn. We need to finish the rail-net.
I cancel the silks for spices and horses deal with Sumeria.
Both AIs can sell us Rubber.

1390 AD
The age of Sipahi as passed as I spot the first Sumerian infantry.

ToE is due in 1 turn, so it is safe to trade Scientific Method.
I ship it to Persia for The Corporation, wm and $848. I have all but completed the cannon upgrades thanks to this cash.
(IT) Persia steals our ivory colony, causing the capitol to riot.

1395 AD
(IT) ToE finally completes. We take AT and Sanitation for free.

1400 AD
I ship AT to Persia for Refining, Communism and $43.

1410 AD
We need to get into war mode, so I use cash to partial rush 2 turns off the factory.

==========================

Summary:
Please merge our natural workers into the capitol after the hospital. We need to get to 1 unit a turn builds.

:hmm: We have a deal with Persia for 10 more turns and are forced to declare on Sumeria with the help of Persia next turn? Why? Why couldn't we just declare on Persia and raze those cities in the west? With Sumeria joining in I doubt that either of them could settle. Cities would be razed in seconds. At least we are tech leader and ready for action now.

Indeed, let's get our city up to size next turn!

My plan now would be: declare on Sumeria and get Persia to join. Don't hurt Sumeria too much, Persia might profit and get a domination win.

After 20 turns (or as early as possible) we can switch sides and declare on Persia, with help of Sumeria.

Tanks (and bombers!!) are getting closer and closer. We must not sit back and relax anymore!

Because the capitol was tied up on buildings my whole turns. I didn't want to start a war with no replacement troops arriving. It took most of my turns to upgrade to Artillery and Sipahi. I wasn't going to take on the big boys with and handful of Sipahi and junk units.

We now have factory, hospital close, and I think we can build a unit a turn shortly. Now we are ready to rock and roll.

Lee is right. We had 3 Sapahi and the Army. The rest were knights since we didn't have saltpeter yet. We had to delay some. I wish we had been better able to protect the resources, but these things happen.

I would have preferred going after Persia too, but it sounds like we were being severely restricted by Sumeria. Problem is that we will clear out the Sumerian cities and Persia will be the pain. I was sending Sapahi to the north to block off the entrance to the ex-Incan lands. Can we get two units up there so Persia doesn't instantly claim the land after we raise the cities?

That's why I didn't like the idea of building ToE.

Now I think we should have a quick war against Sumeria and raze those annoying cities. Persia won't get a domination win, as Sumeria now has infantry. We shouldn't go on offense as soon as we clear those towns. Can we do this without help from persia? I have no idea.

I then would switch side and declare on Persia.

Now, can we finally build some military?

Also, I would mobolize now.

not having had a chance to look at the save, I would say: attack sumer and get rid of the annoying cities, try to seal off the northern choke (2 units would be sufficient so we can seal of all land west of ours). put colonies to get all those resources.

making sure, that Persia attack Sumer as well east of us. Once Sumer has been hit enough, swap sides and raze Persian towns, making sure that the seal never goes.
And then swap back again and again.

A combination of arty with sipahis + army and infantry to protect and seal land should be enough. we should be able to build sipahi in 1 if we get to size 16 and rail all tiles that matter. no need to mobilize (but we need to rush a coal factory for that)
