Anyone here play this game? I personally rate it as one of my most favorite games ever

I used to play it a lot, but not anymore, it was a fun game, but I don't like that kind of RTS anymore, the most successful strategy was to spam build, which seems to leave no time to actualy enjoy watching the battles.

Although i didn't do that and still won the campaign.

I have that game, but haven't played it for awhile. It was cool to watch the myth units, but I never got into it as much as Age of Empires II or III. I only ever did one game online, too - a victory, though.

Just finished an epic game of Age of Empires III, though. That's one of my favorite games ever, certainly my favorite one for online play.

edit: It was fun to train lots of Hoplites, too. If only Persia had been in the game...

Yes I have this game and the expansion. I'm interested in the Atlantis thing, so it's right up my alley. Though currently I'm playing Medieval Total War, Rome Total War (with the Europa Barbarum mod), and mostly Runescape :mischief:

It's ok. A mediocre game not extraordinary or anything. I prefer RTW, Empire Earth, or Rise of Empires: Birth of the Modern World.

I love this game, and it's right up with Impossible Creatures and Starcraft as my favourite RTS.

I liked the Egyptians the most, I'd race for the Migdol Stronghold and overwhelm my enemies with Elite Migdol units.

I play as Isis, worshipping Anubis, Hathor/Nephthys (Nephthys if the map has lots of water), then Osiris. Mummies are excellent units when used properly. I used to like Thoth, and he is a very good god to use, but I don't like his unique units much. I find that the friendly fire of the Phoenixes is very annoying.

I also think that the Atlanteans were overpowered in some maps.

Same here! It's the only one i own. I find all the Ages games rather bland, but the AOM single player campaign is very enjoyable and made it worth the purchase for me.

There you go. "Bland" is also how I describe AOE 1, 2, and 3. And I'm not just talking about the campaign.

The thing that made this game so infinitely replayable and addicting was the ability to very easily create custom games with custom rules. Then you could just host them on multiplayer. Their were, and still are, so many creative things people do, from Helms Deep battles to horse racing.

Hmm, I like to play it on occasions, on easy though as I'm too much of a pansy for the higher difficulties and I like to turtle! And I like islands.... easy to defend when you put forts around it and a few towers for added measure

That's why I play on easy difficulties and not online... I know the walls have a weakness. Everything has a weakness. How to solve a rush? Rush yourself! Both rushes will wipe each other out, or the bigger rusher will win!

I like to defend islands because I can make awesome-looking cities and stuff, complete with forts and things. Everything isn't scattered everywhere like a big mess

To be fair, the AI is not as crappy as seen in other games. It can be very hard to beat. It uses the swarm tactic for all civs and those swarms contain the counter of each of the units that you currently control. Not only that, it also attacks from different sides of your base.

I can hold my own on Titan difficulty, on Islands maps, ultimately winning because I cover my entire island with farms, and trade food for wood and gold. But I can only win a 'real' victory on Hard.

The AI is indeed quite good.

Good!? All they use is melee units. No match for 15 or 20 Hero Fanatics! (they don't even have to be heroes). As for archers, well the offshore siege ships make quick work of that!

That's on easy though. But still, the AI isn't THAT good, even on lower difficulties.

Now, a hard AI to beat would be the Easiest AI in Empire Earth II: Art of Supremacy. You'd be sitting there twiddling your thumbs, next thing you konw, bad guys unload on your shores, they get beaten and while you're trying to research all techs, BAM they've advanced to the next age. In the vanilla game, they'd sit in primitive ages and take forever to age up. In the expansion, the AI just got better, which is bad for a pansy like me!

Back to Age of Mythology: I like to play as Gaia or Isis, or Hades. I don't like to play as the Norse

I liked the egyption's coloru scheme, lots of golden colours :P

One thing I don't like is cheating AI. As a kid I swore the AI cheated sometimes, and it's turned otu I was right (though I don't actualy know if the AI i was playing against then cheated or not).

Oh yes, the nefarious cheating AI. I hate how the AI gets bonuses in Civ games, even on the easy difficulties. They can upgrade cheaper, they get all sorts of nifty bonuses us humans don't get and it really grinds my gears. I want to fight spearmen with Mech Infantry dammit! I don't want huge rushed stacks of doom because of the bad guy's easier upgrades.

The AI did the same thing in Warcraft, they'd be harvesting resources for no reason, they only need to chop a tree once before rebuilding their town hall, so cutting off them from a gold mine or forest would not starve the enemy...
