Excellent write-up kossin, and it looks like Suleiman has this in the bag now. Pericles could perhaps manage to snipe culture, but it doesn't look particularly likely. Suleiman is ahead in everything really, and could waltz over the continent if he so chose, or probably go to space if it comes to that.
Worst moves so far: (in no particular order)
Vicky not REXing. Did she think she was on an Island?
Nappys play in general. Especially early city placement.
Packy for not builing enough workers.
Darry not being able to focus his military efforts.
Charly for signing peace with Perry whilst winning.
Packy choosing to break vassalage from Sully
BTW I was wondering: all deity AIs start with Archery, Hunting, Agri and TW on top of their own usual starting techs.
Does that mean for example that an AI Indian leader starts with 2 more techs (Myst/Mining) than an AI French or Egyptian leader (Agri/TW)? If so how does that influence their start you think?
That will at least send you to youtube to watch it. I think there is something wrong with the "Youtube" tags. It seems to double the address making it invalid.
I think it's Charlie - keeps "winning" wars that get his units trapped in culturally surrounded cities and bribing Suleiman who becomes even stronger by vassaling Charlie's war targets. That's just painful.
If sulie did leave the English alone. Could space happen. Looks like the Redcoats played little part so far. I can't see sulie attacking HRE. Must have a huge shared war bonus by now.
Sully basically sniped away the win from charles when he sniped Pericles's city from underneath charles' grasp. Sully had done more damage so Pericles capped to him, creating a snowballing affect. Not too mention Charles keeps bribing Sully into wars that he could have handled himself and his early peace treaties.
At the moment, there is no way Sully and Charles will go to war. They were getting along before the wars due to religion and Sully's favorite civic. They are friendly now. Unless one of them switches into FR, there will be no big war between the two.
Fast forward to 1665AD, now this is a pretty stupid move.
Spoiler:
Sure, you don't like Pacal, but attacking Suleiman? Why not just give him the win now...
Both AIs have substantial forces, however, the initiative goes to Suleiman and the result is not pretty...
Spoiler:
Meanwhile, a last look at Victoria as she will not play a role in the outcome. Not the tech leader anymore (more on why later), not enough cities, no production: irrelevant.
Spoiler:
Last time around, we saw Pericles complete Manhattan Project. He smartly made some defense.
Spoiler:
We're now stopping this broadcast for this small interlude of David and Goliath.
Spoiler:
They NEVER stopped hahaha! Darius is 4x stronger but that never lead him to do anything... sad.
Suleiman, with his many cities, managed to grab the technology lead, in part due to this project.
Spoiler:
Throughout this time, Suleiman has been fighting the HRE, finally capitulating him in 1740AD after capturing this border city which he'd ignored forever in favour of ex-Greek cities.
Spoiler:
We're now getting close to the 1800ADs... who shall be next?
Spoiler:
Well, he's got teeth at least.
It takes a while but Suleiman finally declares war, aiming for the core city of... uhh, this isn't right.
Spoiler:
Ok... aiming for Deer?
Spoiler:
Nope, nuked out of existence.
But there are many many troops nearby, look at vassal Charlemagne, and even Pacal:
Spoiler:
Or this new Ottoman stack (and his own nukes which detonated...) Plus, a launched spaceship, 11 turns to go!
Spoiler:
Some progress is finally made after Pericles' arsenal is exhausted.
Spoiler:
But... I forgot to mention a detail (or more exactly, left it out for suspense )
Spoiler:
The situation in 1775AD. Pericles is dangerously close to a Cultural Victory.
His 3 core cities are a bit safe from the borders, but still easily in range.
And this is what it looked like when Suleiman finally declared:
So, unless a miracle happened, Suleiman was just too late. No suspense sadly.
Result: cultural victory, Pericles! Still quite close but the AI's inability to make decisions (the RNG is way too important) means peaceful victories are more likely to occur.
One last time for lolz.
Spoiler:
Various demographics.
Spoiler:
In the end, Darius also tried for a cultural victory and would have been the 2nd AI to win. Victoria had no production whatsoever and would never launch. Charlemagne was doing great until a little hatred towards the runner-up's vassal made him forget his place.
Who do you think should get Wildcard? This is another tough one to pick.
Nice surprising turnaround! Btw what's up with the announcements on the top side of the screen? I mean first I thought "wow that's a late Stonehenge (1680AD), wait a minute..."
Good game! Pericles surprised us and IMO, it was right result that he won with great defensive war with tac nukes ! Right winner. Winner: Pericles, Runner up: Suleiman, Wildcard: Darius (because he was close to Culture. Pathetic action against Nappy, but Burger can't be wildcard leader since his loss was completely his own fault, he started the war himself).
Unfortunately (I'd say) not a huge surprise. When the game lasts this long, there is a big risk of somebody snatching culture. The AI is simply too indecisive in war matters, and doesn't play for the win. Probably not a coincidence Gandhi has done so well.
I suppose that if Darius would have been the 2nd AI to win, he deserved the wildcard. A little harsh on Charlemagne perhaps, but he did mess up badly with that DoW on the big dog. Also feels a bit wrong to award Darius when he couldn't even knock out Napoleon, so it's a tough one as you say.
So close for Suli. And Charles could have won it for Suli, well at least stalled Pericles, if he took Thebes. He had one of his trapped stacks right next to it.
I would almost say Charles should get wildcard. He made some pretty stupid decisions that led to his demise. Early peace treaties with Pacal/Pericles left several stacks stranded in cities. Not to mention he bribed Suli in both wars when he really did not need too. And then the decision to declare war on Suli. If charles would have vassaled either Pacal or Pericles instead of Suli, we could have had a much different ball game. As for Darius, if he couldn't roll over Nappy, that its own fault, not some of his choices getting out of hand.
