That is quite a jump! Last time I checked it was 400 ppm.

I read the book, I'm familiar with the argument. Also coinciding time-wise are better and more violent video games.

Personally, I find the lead poisoning narrative to be the most compelling.

Additionally, we've known for awhile that being raised in a city lead to higher levels of schizophrenia.

IIRC there's also evidence of a link to difficulty in controlling temper and exposure to lead - as in too much car exhaust.
(A quick google just reveals that people in China are angry about the air in Beijing.)
