I am pretty new to CivV. Just got G&K a few weeks ago.
I have played Civ since CivII test of time. Because as a history student Rome has always been my favorite empire in history I usually play as Rome in all the iterations of Civ.
Every game I've played in V Alexander denounces me within 5 turns of meeting me (Augustus). It happens without fail. I could have no units anywhere near his city, game just started and exploring with my warrior, only my start city or whatever. It doesn't matter. He keeps insulting and denouncing me no matter what.
I'm just curious as to if this is just some bug that Greece always hates Rome no matter what. Or if Alexander is just always a jerk to human player. He's made friends with civs that are much more of a threat to him if they are AI. I'm playing on Prince difficulty as well so it's not like playing on Immortal or Deity where you can expect the AI to hate you for existing.
Just wondering if anyone else has any knowledge on this.

Alex is one of the more aggressive ones. He pretty much always covets and hostiles me instantly even if I'm one city like 30 hexes away, but I don't think he ever denounced me so quickly.

A few civs such as greece aztecs india huns mongolia they are programmed to be that way although if you're lucky they will be friendly actually in my experiances if you have military that is equal or larger in size of greece they will be very friendly.

Hellenic Greece and Rome had a period of conflict, I think. I know when England first met me she denounced me the second turn as India. Civ5 supposedly takes this real life conflict into consideration.

Compwiz: Yeah, I just thought it was due to some civ's being more hostile than others but he will denounce on turn 5 when we both have nothing but a capital and a warrior. Meanwhile Monte will be (fairly) reasonable.
Fuzz: I will have an army the exact same size as his and he just starts the denounce/just came by to insult you train on turn 10. Like I said earlier other notoriously aggressive leaders will behave with a little bit of sense but not alex.
Tachi: That's what I was wondering if it was hardwired into Alexander "Augustus must die" or something because it doesn't make any sense. There will be 2 civs and most of a continent between us and he's buzzing like a hornet.
Peng: I understand about the early uu leading to aggressiveness. (Rome has a little experience with that) but like I said he will just do it when it makes no sense (I mean less sense than a lot of AI stuff).
Thanks for the input guys

Anyone situated on the same continent that Alexander is on will be constantly bullied by him. But there are two great solutions that would help you to stop Alexander being so annoying:
1) Wipe out the Greek empire
2) Let someone else wipe out the Greek empire

Those are the right answers.

Oh, it's not like he's a problem for me. It is annoying the constant "just stopped by to insult you" diplo screens but I keep him from doing any harm (so far maybe in higher difficulties different story). I was just curious if it was a Rome/Greece thing or Greece thing.

Greece the huns and attila are the games premier aggro murder your face jerks. Antime you hit them on turn 5 your gameplan suddenly goes from "space victory" to "try not to get murdered".

Alexander always seems to love me ... I never friend him, though, as I generally befriend the guy w/ the best army (or Sweden if they're in the game).

Alex has high nuke ratings...? apparently not high enough like Attila or Nebuchadnezzar.

But yes, he is a jerk and you should try play him as one sometimes. One thing that can really piss him off from the getgo is hogging all the city-states (or the potential to do so based on UA)

This. As far as him being belligerent to you even though you have an equal sized army, that means you need to build a bigger army.

Also, some AIs (as noted above) are truthfully just programmed to be jerks. Sometimes they can be your best friend, but more often than not they are going to hate you. It's not that they hate specific civs, they just hate you period. And everyone else. In this way they are pretty consistent through various playthroughs.

Yeah. But that's a joke. From the remaining leaders actually Ramesses, Montezuma and Catherine even have an 8. Maybe i phrased that wrong, lets say: "about the highest or some of the highest values" :D
