I think it would be beneficial if we understood this fact:

A country is NOT a civ. The qualifications for a real-world civilization (and therefore an in-game civ) are more than being a developed, sovereign state. The obvious examples of a country not being a civ would be Canada, New Zealand, and yes, Australia. This is the reason why whe have Babylon and Persia, not Iraq and Iran, the reason why Rome, not Italy, and Korea, not NK/SK.

Well said and well-reasoned response to a common topic.

ty :D

But now that I've put it out there, I feel a little sorry for Ahovking. I know what it feels like to have your civ not included in the game.. Sucks for him, Australia will probably never make it :P

Hey, Australia is the default go to civ for tutorials on how to add civs at least it seems to have been, so worst case he does it himself. And I don't see them adding Ireland anytime soon either :P

eh, true that. <3 mods.
he'll get it sooner or later, i guess, as will most developed nations. Gotta say, though, civs like Australia, Brazil, Mexico, etc. have always made me do double-takes.

and lol@ ireland. Ireland as a civ is more legit than Australia imo, although picking a leader would be a pain in the neck... it's not like you can use St. Patrick.

The Irish national leader is Alcohol. Fact.

Sorry mate, but that made me :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Yea, he got bashed alot earlier.
I figured I'd start off with something positive to say about Australia first, before, I explained to him in detail, just why it was highly unlikely that his country would be chosen.
Australia is a continent too, so, one would think it would have more power on this earth, but, I haven't seen it.
Now, with America's Ares Rocket Space program on hold, if Australia were to goto the Moon, and be the first to mine the Titanium or convert the oxygen from the soil, into air or rocket fuel, I'd say they just did something great for mankind, but, I don't see that happening.
They just don't have the population to be that productive.
That is why China is doing so great in that manner.

My knowledge of Australia's accomplishments might be less than some, so, if you can give us some examples where Australia led a fight (initiated and had the most troops) to defend another country, or invented or mass produced some technology that changed the world, or (was the bad guy) conquered its neighbors and had to be defeated by others, I'd want to know about it.

East Timor and Solomon Islands come to mind straight away. While I am australian and it'd be fun to play Australia, we are not a civ and not a major world power, we are a major world player, but as another said we are a passive nation, we are a regional power and its only even recently we have started being one.

The sheer fact we have only been a nation for just over 200 years makes us pretty insignificant in world history.

um i not just talking about Australia but using Australia as an EXAMPLE

well, neither was I.
If you really want them wait for a mod :D

To be fair we have a huge amount of inventions and medical firsts, so I would say australia probably has had a huge impact on the lives of many all around the world.

Still doesn't make us a civilization

Wow, an Australian in Germany, your far from home.

Hey, I was thinking more about an Australian leader.
There are passive leaders in the Civ game already.
One could see an Australian leader added for game balance in a diplomatic or economic victory, competing against Ghandi, Asoka or Elizabeth.
Perhaps, their unique building could grant +2 health (to put it into Civ 4 terms), and simulate this Medical knowledge.
I don't know which leader name would be best, you'd have a better idea than I.
In this type of peaceful oriented challange, Canada or Brazil could make an entrance as well.

I did live there for a while, been home for a fair while now tho lol

I don't think we should be in, but its a nice addon like in a mod. But for Unique Buidling you could have CSIRO instead of say the Laboratory and give +2 health.

Unique unit would have to be the Light Cavalry instead of the Cavalry, give +50% city attack, or The Diggers instead of the infantry unit, give it better defence bonuses.

Leaders would Be either Robert Menzies or John Howard, dunno what traits you would use exactly.

Now I agree with you. :goodjob:

Yeah - I tried my best to pretend his obvious intentions were not obvious but it didn't last very long.

Depends on what one's country does with that 200+ years.
The U.S has been an official country for 234 years.

Now, if you can get those Beautiful Austrailian women, like "Cara" from "Legend of the Seeker" to have 5-10 children, Austrailia could have the population to compete with higher pop nations. :) Let us know, if she needs any help there. ;)

Lol can't believe I got my own countries length of existance wrong :P its only been 109 years whoops lol

We are never going to be a super power just cause we don't have the population and its impossible for us to have a massive population. So I am quite content punching way above our weight.
