Sorry, no comparison with Ireland - you have never oppressed a smaller nation (/joke). Serbs and Croats? No, we don't like to kill each other :D Also, Serbs and Croats are quite different culturally - different letters, different religion.

The languages is mutually intelligible to a very, very large extent. That's why I said that Slovak could be considered a dialect of Czech (or the other way round). I'd compare it to French and the Walloons, Dutch and the Flemings or Finns and Estonians.

Most of the differences stem from a different historical experience (or more precisely the absence of independent Slovak state until 1993) and the differences in mindset and cultural traditions.

Personaly, I have a hard time thinking about Slovaks as foreigners. I regularly watch Slovak TV, read news on Slovak servers, listen to Slovak music and meet Slovaks in my daily life so it is quite hard to view them as a separate nation. They're our bratia after all.

Ye never should have split up. I still cannot understand why it happened... if I had my way there would be a lot fewer countries in Europe.

I am actually quite glad that it happened. Things are so much better when you don't have to argue about funding, political representation or who's paying more to the federal budget and thus who's subsidizing whom.

If there is one thing I regret, it is that the Czechs seem to be losing interest in Slovakia: while 1/3 of Slovaks watch Czech TV daily, 200 thousand of them work in the Czech rep. any tens of thousands study on our universities, Czechs mostly ignore what's happening in Slovakia and go there only as tourists. Young Czechs have trouble understanding Slovak words and adjusting to their pronunciation, but young Slovaks know Czech very well (mostly thanks to the huge amount of Czech-dubbed movies).

On the other hand, both governments cooperate very closely with each other and officials often use phrases like "brother country" which is quite uncommon. And of course, as two separate countries we have more votes in the EU :mischief:

I like it.

Is that Ireland controlling the UK or the UK controlling Ireland?

A voluntary union, but obviously the English with their population being 50m and ours being 5m would be the most influential. Maybe if they ever pushed their luck Us, the Scots and Welsh could gang up on them:mischief:

Why do you put the whole Switzerland in Great Germany? You could put the French speaking part in France.

I know, but frankly I havent the first idea where to put the borders on a linguistic basis.

I might do an entire world one, and really show my ignorance

I'd be interested to hear Winner's opinion on it

You don't mean that seriously, do you? Portugal with Spain? Mega-Yugoslavia? Greater Germany?

We had all of this before and all of it failed.

It's much more sensible to have many smaller states integrated in a broader trans-national organization, so nobody feels oppressed by a greater neighbour.

It's really just a bit of craic. Look who Ireland is with. but I think Some of the countries would be viable, Scandinavia especially. Russia merged with Belarus makes perfect sense.

Polish Corridor..i'm ok with it...

A revised version of RRW's Europe.

Just like Croatia.

Just like Croatia and Serbia.

Just like Croatia.

Well Slovenia is definitely more well-developed, but how "modernized" a country is is a very subjective topic.

Just trying to show a different point of view here... :)

Well an arguement could be made for Croatia, but let's try one at a time. ;)

I made my own, more realistic version.

If Belarus and Eastern Ukraine don't want to be western then they can be with Russia. The Western Belarus for sure DON'T want to be a part of Russia, and it is mostly populated by Poles anyway, so it is given to Poland. Minsk becomes a Neutral City. (Like what people want to do with Brussels). If they don't want to be a neutral city, then we split it in half give one side to Russia, the other to Poland. Continuing on with the bigger state's theme, then Lithuania get's divided. The Polish half of Lithuania along with Vilnuis becomes part of Poland, The Rest if given to Latvia. Latvia is pretty much bigger.

Ukraine is divided into 3. Russian side goes to Russia, the Side that wants to be western goes to Poland and the rest goes to an independent Ukrainian buffer state that sides with the West. I added some mild pro-russian areas along the coast to the buffer state.

England-Ireland is togather, Czech-Slovakia is as well, Hungary gains some new land, Finland-Estonia is togather, Belguim is split, Brussels is neutral city like Minsk, Moldova to Romania, Kalingrad to Poland, Macedonia to Bulgaria, Slovenia and Croatia togather, as well as half of Bosnia (although i didn't do it correctly). Serbia is with Montenegro and half of Bosnia (I did it incorrectly as well). Scandinavia togather, and i though that Iceland as part of Scandinavia would be good on Iceland's part, so i added them as well.

Swiss can stay neutral. Didn't think Germany needed any new parts. I think i added Sorbia to Poland as well...

Guys, about the Nordic countries:

All the Nordic countries in one bloc, and throw in Estonia for good measure, makes more sense than this.

If you absolutely want to partition it, historically Denmark-Norway-Iceland vs. Sweden-Finland-(Estonia) is the way to go.

uber-Poland...i like!

wow a poland bigger than germany...
