Alternate History Thread III

Re-claiming the Irish. Really, this is all quite spectacular.

EDIT: You got rid of the religious center in Ireland? I thought you were just going to change it to Kildare. Other than that, I love the map!

@Israelite: I decided to keep it in Gallway, judging that since the Irish Rite was institutionalized as the state religion, it would only be natural for the religious center to shift over time to the capital, which it has.

Ok, I'll be launching the thread in 10 minutes, as I've pretty much finished everything I have to do.

Reclaiming Andalusia, and why the heck do the incans have more troops than a world empire?

Ok, last note here...

On the Inca, give a large, fanatical populace centuries and a continent to themselves, and that's what you'll get. They're quite badly armed; a modern European force could probably (note the probably) cut them to pieces.

On Gallway, hmm? Green is a religious center, Blue is a cultural center. Gallway is religious, rather than cultural, hence the green.

Thanks for the explaination Thayli. I was just wondering

Expressing interest in the nation at the southeast corner of Arabia, though I can't join for a month.

Hmm, your thread's open now.

Actually, I've gottent used to the green for cultural. Blue was always my religious color, I had just prefered a dark yellow for cultural.

Ah. I'm just going with the current trend, that's how it is for LINESII as well.

@Iggy: That it is. :) Just finishing it up now...

I'm considering merging cultural and religious centers, although I have a feeling people would oppose this for the simple reason that they dislike change.

That was Thlayli's method, the two city system. I developed the three city system. Personally, I believe that since there are so many cultural non-religious centers as well as religious non-cultural centers, it is best to keep them seperate.

I originally proposed that in the old thread...called it the Two City System, and argued violently for it. But now I see that both city types have distinctly different functions, especially in the early game where religion is more important. It's like comparing Paris to Mecca, for me.

They're both centers of cultural importance, and the differences are, in my views, becoming increasingly irrelevant from a gameplay perspective.

OK, how about Milan? Milan is most definately a cultural center, I don't know who might argue that. However, they are definately not a religious center. There is also Brussels, Paris, Berlin, Chicago, New York, and numerous others.

@Iggy- That depends on if you recognize the importance of religion.

No, that's not what I'm saying. Paris is a place which attracts a lot of artistic and literary stuff, as well as pilgrims of a sort. Mecca does the same thing. They're quite similar, it's just that in Mecca it is a different philosophy driving them.

Therefore, I would say that, while obviously they are different, they are in essential nature very similar.
