Alternate Timeline Building Experiment, v1.0

Major influence:
Hom Empire: The state is now basically identical in ruthlessness and terror as the Nazis were under Hitler. Tienanmen style massacres have occurred, but kept secret and used to "influence" any resistance to surrender. Almost entirely communist. This brutal regime has few friends left, among them the Nacubians and Saikara, of which the latter is starting to distance itself slightly.

Manzuru Empire: The economy is almost purely decentralized, with the government only in for taxes and in case a monopoly starts exploiting the people. It is a republic, and it is one of the chief tensions of the Hom Empire. Allies include Varakan Empire and surrounding countries, minus Hom. The surrounding areas are now protectorates, and a few are slowly becoming integrated into the Empire.

Great Dagon Kingdom: It is experiencing the typical instability of a young empire, but it appears to be modeling itself after Saikara (which I don't really want) to modernize and establish power. Allies include the Surong, and it has friendly, but not alliances, relationships with just about every other state in Indonesia.

Ulayasamat Kingdom: Chiefly still tribal customs, such as noone really owns anything, all for the greater good, similar to U.S.S.R., but working out better because of smaller population. Allies are all Indonesian peoples.

Zulyan/Zuli Tribes: Tribal. Hunt, fish, occasionaly make a "city" for maybe 5 years in pleasurable spots. They are finally, after wandering since the beginning of humanity, starting to modernize. As they are not a nation, no allies, no enemies. They're simply mercenaries. Allies one day may be enemies another. However, they despise Yanshi people for infringing on there lands.

Thanks! :salute:

OK, theres now 24 hours (from this post) left until the deadline, which might not be all that deadly, still I advise you to send any more input sooner rather than later.

Would it be alright if I contributed for the Yueren culture? As long as nobody else is doing it I mean...

Masada: (Marzhung culture)
Major influence: Great Keyzad of Marzhung
Support the Sezvyr Covenant against the eternal enemy. Arm them and if neccesary invade using Varakan weapons, try to keep it as a proxy war. Also arm Nadzavosk-Savisia against Poneb. Keep good relations with Varakan while were at it, use proxies and dodgy companies to funnel arms to those two states. Continue to industrialize, local business should be encouraged to make inroads into the Nadzavosk-Savisia and the Sezvyr Covenant which are both ruined by war (offering nice investment opportunities). Continue to build up a more modern military. Keep anti-Varakan dissenters happy by assisting my neighbors to the North and East.

Varakan, drift over Nadzavosk-Savisia slowly.

Ideology: Nationalism, Interventionism, Economic Progressiveness, and a slight tilt towards Democracy.

Lesser influence: Keyzad of Nadzavosk-Savisia
Vasil Tsuverak will encounter problems from revanchist elements of Nadzavosk-Savisia which will capitalize on the plight of Nadzavosk-Savisia weakness and rightly blame Democracy for weakening the country. They will use any impetus to support Sezvyr Covenant to declare war against the Poneb. They will also draw closer to a Marzhung state which will assist them in their endeavors.

Tiandishi Empire

Try to go north peacefully (buying land) but keep the anti-Takaraji spirit going! Taking Formosa would be a great start if possible. As the heir to the great empires of the East (or the West? In this convoluted world where the turning point between B.C. and A.D. is based on OTL East events...)

Also I think they should finally just bite the bullet and assimilate the Tiandulong Tribes (says Kingdoms on the map.) It should be a short, glorious war.

And I don't mind the revival of ideas of Tuizen traditions. If anything it will help the inevitable war effort; sacrifice for the war.

Also I think the beginning of a change in the fanatic culture should foment (maybe following some sort of failure) and Yueren influence should slowly but steadily gain strength. Important ideas: respect for nature, sophistication, which actually ties in well with feelings of superiority).

Political Ideologies

Monarchies; Theocracies

Ally Preferences
-Yienvai Kingdom (vassal).
-Naga Kingdoms (vassal).
-Huiyan Alliance (a shared history!)
I have to admit, I haven't really been paying attention to the rest of the world. But, fair authoritarian empires are likely to curry favor with the Tiandishi Empire, as well as any ones with Mingdebu followers as a significant minority/majority.

The 4th Battle of Setev

The men through themselves to the ground as a screaming noise through the air announced a resumption of the artillery barrage.

The location was one of the mixed quarters of the city of Setev, a port on the Savisian Sea. The men were members of the Thereskadaya Verjili, the Republican Army. Their attackers were the Keyzada Dur Verjili, the Royal Army, ostensibly the force of the puppet Kezy Jvandek IV, composed collaborators and foreigners.

The Thereskadaya Verjili traced its origins to several decades back, though it did not rise to prominence until the comparitively recent movement of Marzhung and Varakan forces to help the embattled Kezy to suppress the revolutions threatening to wrest the country out of his control.

Indeed, times were bad in Nadzavosk-Savisia. Many abortive revolutions had been brutally quenched, often at great human cost, but this time it would be different. The Thereskadaya Verjili had united the democratic elements of the country, Curias had privately pledged its support for the movement, and high-level defections in the Royal Navy had secured the Savisian Coast. In fact, much of the country had significant Republican Army Presences.

However, at the moment, this meant nothing, as a shell crashed into a nearby house, exploding into a violent fireball. A wall of the three-floor, wooden house creaked as flames blasted out of a window. Glass rained down upon the soldiers. One looked up, to see the wall starting to give away.

"Get out of here!" he shouted, desperately scrambling away from the shadow of the incinerating house. The other soldiers desperately half ran, half crawled out of the danger zone. The wall, soon followed by the entire structure, collapsed in a cascade of sparks.

Running down a block, the soldiers regrouped, backs against another wooden house. Captain Vasil Tsuverak, the highest-ranking survivor, addressed the troops now under his command.

"We have to hold our position against any traitors or Gaz* soldiers trying to break in. Our fleet will be in position to fire on the enemy artillery emplacements soon, we only need to hold of our enemy for some time."

An echoing explosion went off somewhere in the distance.

"Tyelivev, Yekutin, Reledy, position yourselves behind the debris- you're are first line. Wlidy, Sarik, get up on that rooftop and give us some eyes. Everyone else, keep sure this street is secure."

The soldiers nodded. Tsuverak ran up to the first three, arranging the debris into rough barricade. A distant, echoing boom sounded.

"Dsek! They have more artillery!"

"That's not the sound of any gun I've heard!"

"It's a ship. Our ships are here!"

Suddenly, gunfire broke out. A large group of Royalist soldiers came surging out of a nearby alley, and shots had been fired by some overeager soldiers- from where, Tsuverak was not sure. In seconds, the Royalists dove beneath cover, and began to fire. A shout was heard from behind. It was Wlidy. Sarik's body, with a large bloody hole in his neck, tumbled off the steep roof and down to the street below.

Vasil Tsuverak, quickly getting over the shock of death, pulled a stick grenade form his belt and hurled it overhand down the street. An explosion was met with several screams of pain from the other side. A peek over the barricade showed them withdrawing, some dragging their wounded comrades.

"Soldiers of the Republic! Press the advantage!"

Tsuverak stood up, and fired off two pistol shots at the retreating forces, felling one. He, quickly followed by the others, began a pursuit. Bayonets quickly ended the lives of the remaining wounded.

The battle would go on for another several hours, but at the end, the Keyzada Dur Verjili was forced out of Setev. A blow for the occupiers and traitors, a great victory for the forces of Democracy- for the time being. The nation was still very, very far away from unity. For some, it seemed like an unreachable dream.

But not for Vasil Tsuverak.

He knew that victory was approaching.

The world would gaze in awe of the nation that rose out of the wreck that was the Keyzad of Nadzavosk-Savisia.

He was sure of it.

*Gaz- Slur referring to Central Asians in general, Marzhung and Varakans in specific.

Thanks very much :salute:

@Lord_Iggy, I really like your story. You are in danger of making me biased against your enemies ;)

Stormbringer said:

@Stormbringer, sure thing, feel free to post some guidance for them. The official deadline is a few hours away now, but you can get special treatment :)

Yueren culture - a very ancient and sophisticated culture, influencing most of east Asia over the course of history, with one of the oldest written languages still in use. It is closely tied to ancient nature-worship religion.
Major influence: Huiyan Alliance, Yanshi Republic
Lesser influence: Tiandishi Empire, Holy Shyin Empire, Saikara, Suraji, Varakan Empire

Yueren seems basically a mix of OTL northern Chinese and Korean, with a democratic tradition. kkmo also gave them a religion similar to celtic druidism to begin with, though over the centuries that has probably become a load of cultural traditions/yearly events without too much meaning behind it.

As an experiment, I made this map of Yueren culture in the world. Bright red is the core area where influence is very high, yellow areas are where the influence is only moderate or marginal.

Spoiler :

Do the Tiandishi Empire next!

We're the real inheritors of the empires now.

Ok, sounds good DP!

Lesser influence: Tiandishi Empire, Holy Shyin Empire, Saikara, Suraji, Varakan Empire

Yanshi Republic - a strong liberal and democratic tradition is the root of the development of the Yanshi Republic. It is repeatedly at odds during this time period with its neighbors to the East and South over ideology as the Yanshi aggressively push liberal ideas, both in government and in the economy, onto their neighbors. Constant conflict, even if not major, is the underpinning of industrial development and research, and other areas, such as medicine and consumer goods begin to get left behind as time progresses.

Huiyan Alliance - another nation with strong liberal traditions, but much more pacifist in its approach than Yanshi. Huiyan is less advanced than Yanshi and without constant conflict there is no strong drive for industrialization. Obviously the two countries grow close due to similar political ideologies and Huiyan rely on Yanshi for protection. As time progresses a lack of conflict and a commitment to market ideologies means that Huiyan become more and more prosperous with the standard of living eventually outstripping that of Yanshi who are more focused on heavy industry and production for their conflicts. The Yanshi begin to be more jealous as they feel that they are doing all the work of spreading liberal ideas while the Huiyan get to reap all the benefits and relations become strained over time.

I know I'm past deadline so feel free to ignore

Colmassa: Continue to shutout the world and struggle to maintain own culture.

Amasa: Continue to trade and adopt behaviors and ideals of the more modern colonizers. Ideals lean towards those simular to the Aarut colonist neighbors.

Matac: Undertakes massive effort to optimize traffic/trade flow up Amazon and to Pacific. Uses any modern technologies they can aquire to do so. Ideals are socialist in nature, uses trade income to improve all citizens lives, but still focuses most of it on promoting trade up Amazon.

Zanac: Pushes borders south. If they reach southern end. Some local adventurers may visit Antarctica.

Very sorry for missing the deadline by so much. Also, I loved your last update daftpanzer... seemed like there was a great war on democracy after all :p.

Short, rushed orders:

Imperial Aarut Republic

Allied with Rosk, Argine, Hulat, Geldut, Varaka, (perhaps Poneb; read on).
Dislikes Nemarthia, all Furotocas.
Neutral with (Poneb, and therefore; read on) Savisians.
Political ideology: constitutional monarchy, however they still see the Furotocas as somewhat anarchist.

As the European situation, among other things, start straining the Aarut empire, they will send a peace delegation to the Panto. Threatening to continue the slaughter of Panto citizens, they will demand all territory currently owned by the Aarut, + as much coastal + riverine territory as they can obtain, + as many trading rights as they can obtain + as many extraterritoriality-like rights as they can obtain. They will offer to pay slight reparations for the Panto civilians killed by "overzealous" Panto generals. The Aarut will then focus on integrating the formerly Panto territory into their semi-republican system, making the natives residing in Aarut land happy, making colonists happy, etc.

The Aarut will seek to make the great native federations of the north even more economically dependent on them, maybe even integrating them into the empire (annexing them), if possible. They will certainly help the federations in any conflicts they have.

The Imperial Aarut Republic will increase its industrial might, and bring more industry to New Aarut. A focus on innovation/modernization will be maintained.

They will continue advancing military, naval, and now aerial technology. They will attempt to devise a way to safely destroy anti-naval mines, perhaps invent modern submarines if they'd be of any use, and recognizing the future possibilities of aerial military technology, attempt to revolutionize that field and have not just the finest navy in the world, but also the finest airforce.

They will not be nearly as die-hard reactionary as the Rosk, and may even slightly liberalize. For sure, if any Olan rebel, they will attempt to use diplomacy first and force later.

Although they'll still be close to the Rosk, they'll advise them to tone down the genocide and spend some time rebuilding.

They will not seek conflict in Europe, but will enter if prompted.

Olan from former Lanverg Kingdom

They will campaign the Aarut for liberalization (not as important), and especially for non-modernization. Their old-fashioned way of life is especially dear to them, and they will take up arms if needed to protect it. The Aarut should give in as they have better places to industrialize, but if they don't woe to the Aarut soldiers that attempt to destroy the Lanverg guerrillas.

Rosk Kingdom

Allied with Aarut, Argine, Varaka.
Dislikes hostile Amestrians, Nemarthia, all Furotocas, Savisians somewhat.
Political ideology: death to democracy!!!!

Although they will continue hating democracy, the Rosk will take a few years to consolidate and build up their industry. They will stop warring with the Amestrians and form their own long trench lines opposite those of Amestria. In general, they will not seek out war. They will also modernize their army and airforce, mostly due to Aarut's friendliness.

Poneb Kingdom

Allied with Savisians, (Aarut)
Dislikes Rosk somewhat
Political ideology: liberal, but not quite as much as the Furotocas after this update.

The Poneb will plea their traditional Savisian allies for help against their rebellions, liberalize to please the rebels, try to become allied to the Aarut, but not directly to the Rosk because of their reputation, etc, g2g.

Okay, since my orders are generally always the same, I'll just give a few, while the rest of my nations/culture w/e goes about doing what they always done.

Have my siberian country continue to expand eastward.

Have the Asuats in the Aarut republic start a rebellion for being treated as middle class, and try to break away in the north.

The rest will keep doing what they been doing. Tagons will keep fighting amongst themselves, etc.

Ah, that's awesome how many cultures influence my empire. I always wanted it to be the center of world culture, and it seems to be.

^Thanks again for all your input :salute:

I've been taking some time to think about all this. Update may be tomorrow night if I get time, but more likely to be Tuesday I think…

To avoid the risk of an anti-climax, I want to say now -> this is probably going to be a fairly peaceful age after all, something like a 'Belle Epoque'. There may be revolutions and wars but not world wars. The alliances will still take shape though. I'm thinking of a mix of OTL inter-war years (20's and 30's) with industrial imperialism 1890's style.

I will after I get the hang of this. I didn't want to jump into other cultures without having read up on all the previous updates and everything.

I prefer only influencing my own culture so I do not interfere with other peoples plans or ideas. If anyone wants to write something for Varaka (especially Stormbringer) you may.

Cool, psycho ferrets :D thanks for the link

I don't expect anyone to read them all... I have spammed lots in most of the updates :goodjob:

I guess the Varakan empire is kinda a replacement for OTL russia, mongols and ottomans combined. Its had a lot of mixed-up influences. In the area around OTL Iran, I imagine there are as many indians and descendents of steppe people as there are ethnic persians. And they have a goddess-worship religion.

Luckymoose also has a say in describing them if he wants :)
