Off at the start, but as the game gets more detailed I turn it on.

When I first saw this option, I wondered "Why would you want to make this game any slower?"

Then after about the 20th time I forgot to turn down my research tax when I had only one turn left in a tech, I turned it on.

Sometimes "dummyproofing" is a very, very good thing.

During long turns, I tend to fortify a stack so that I can come back to it later but usually end up forgetting about it. Having this option on for me is a necessity as I can go around the map to make sure I haven't forgotten any thing. Just can't play with it off.

I definately play it with "on". Not only I want to recheck cities when I'm done, but I save at the end of every turn as well since I've had too much crashes in the interturn.

Turning it 'on' is one of the things that has immeasurably improved my game. Probably 50% turning it 'on', 50% War Academy/CivFanatics/GOTM. Probably. I may be exaggerating. I am rather forgetful ;)

Neil.

I play with the "wait" option on, for all the reasons given above. :D

Before I knew of this option I always wondered how I would move a boat
or something to attack with the troops aboard and then my turn would end
before I could attack   . It seemed the computer pulled one over
on me everytime  :( . Then I saw the light with the "waiter" ;) .

When I discovered you could turn this on, I was reduced to wondering why the option to have it off was even included. Never turned it off since.

I recall panicked reactions the sparse times it was somehow turned off...

-on, always on. every single turn i want to hit F4 to make the rounds and sell maps and F1 to micro. i try and get it done at the start of the turn but sometimes i'm involved in unit/war manipulation and forget. having the turn wait for me saves my neck time and time again. :)

On, always. It gives me that extra time to consider my turn before ending it re: builds and fortified units.

The only bad thing about turning it off is that, when your city pop goes beyond the max number of content citizens, the governor will make an entertainer between turns (during the upkeep phase) without giving you the possibility to raise luxuries. Therefore, you'll loose one citizen's work for one turn, and on harder levels this kind of thing is definitely worth micromanaging.
but is it really that big a deal? I play demigod and habitually let my cities go into disorder (a lot worse than losing one laborer) and I tend to do well.

On. In Civ3 Multiplayer it's off (don't know if you can turn it on) and it severly damages my gameplay (I like doing trades and stuff at the end of turns, also just a quick double-check to make sure I didn't mess up anything.)
In multiplayer I have never seen it off. I have always seen it on. One would be so screwed if they didn't get to pick when to end their turn.

I always play with it on.

i used to play with it off until i realized that you can turn it on... playing with it off is harsh! trust mem i cannot tell you how many times i wanted to build a road to that fur only to forget to during my turn. I always end up kicking myself. I hope no one else have to suffer through what i did.

I'm one of the freaks since I leave it off and I'm quite aware the option exists. If I feel the need to "take a last look around" I just make certain I have a worker active on an island completely covered by a single city (I play archipelago almost exclusively). When that worker is activated I just hit W until I'm certain everything else is done. It amounts to the same thing.

I keep it off- if I didn't, I'd spend about half an hour checking all my units have moved at the end of every turn.

About 1 month ago I always had this option turned off just because I didn't know it could be turned on! Still managed to get to emperor level but it's much easier now I have the option on, because I don't forget to trade and do all the other important stuff you usually forget when your turn suddenly is over.
