Am I seeing things? $1000 game on Steam?

$40 for a single DLC!? What a ripoff.

RailSimulator.com presents RailWorks2 Train Simulator, the most realistic train and railway simulator on the market. RailWorks2 Train Simulator allows players to take to the controls of 13 stunningly accurate historic and contemporary locomotives along 8 different lines in the UK, North America and Europe. Download new tracks, engines and rolling stock or easily create your own designs and share them with friends. Its platform status means that the software will be regularly updated and have new features added as time goes on.

Sounds incredibly dull.

I have a feeling that the 'People who are interested in this product' and 'lonely middle-management individuals with no kids' target markets have signifigant overlap.

Hey, I used to like trains :(

So do I. I still have Microsoft Train Simulator installed on my computer but that doesn't mean I'm going to buy DLC for $40 where it only introduces a new locomotive.

So what actual content in is the game you buy? Is 99% of this game DLC?

I'm posting this in the off-topic and not the game section because this is so absurd. What the hell is this?

Rail Works 2 - Train Simulator

It says the normal price of this game is $1073, but wait! It's on sale for only $199.

The game itself is only around $40. That's a "complete pack" that includes several dozen DLC. But yes, the DLC look to me like they're normally ridiculously overpriced.

Dude we better hurry up and buy! This is a great sale!

Or upper class retirees.

Looks like the game has an 80% off sale. $200 for 65 DLCs.

It does seem rather expensive, but then the customer base is probably much smaller than usual and in order to deliver a high level of quality that price tag may be required, it's a breath of fresh air actually to see developers focusing on a different genre for once, pity i'm not really into trains much.

I've seen this thing before.

This is DLC out of control...

The game is for people who love model railroads and I actually picked up Railworks 2 (Iirc it was $6) during the x-mas sale with a couple of really cheap packs with Canadian trains and routes (and I think one scottish pack too).

From the demo it looked pretty fun actually, made me wish I had room to dig out my old HO set :(

This is also why the pricing on the DLC is so much for most of it, you are paying for the quality of the models, well researched, accurate and highly detailed, there are also several small companies/groups that make the DLC for the game. Physical model trains in hobby stores aren't cheap either, and you don't get accurately detailed train routes in stores.

Pretty much this. Railworks is expensive, but it's still probably cheaper than actually buying real model trains. Plus, you don't have to set aside a room in your house to build a track (which is a whole lot of work in itself, and also expensive).
