Am I Un-Australian...

No, I'm saying that Australia lost because of a poor ref decision. But i have accepted that now.

We didn't lose because of a poor reffing decision. It was a contributing factor, but if we put our chances away earlier in the game, we wouldn't have been in a position to have a poor decision have such an impact. If that penalty came in the 1st minute, and we spent the next 89 missing chances, there wouldn't be anywhere near as much angst, the team itself would be blamed for not putting away the goals they should have. Just because we wasted 89 min of chances before the penalty intstead of after doesn't make those wasted chances less important, or the penalty more important.

No you are not. I don't really care about any sports.

My question to you - What do you think you need to celebrate be to be patriotic? Sports? Economy? Heritage?
Put links celebrating your country in your sig. :D

if the penalty wasnt given, it wouldve gone to extra time. The ref made a wrong decision there which effectively cost us the match. I know we didnt make the most of our opportunities, but Italy's defence was just too good.

I expected us to lose, but when we lose because of a penalty that happened 10sec before the end of the "match", when he took a dive, its extremely frustrating.

No, not un-Australian at all. A lot of city folks and New Australians jumped on the soccer bandwagon, but it is not an Australian sport, nor one of enduring interest. I am a supporter of my countries sports teams, but could not raise myself for this travesty, just as the synchronized swimming and Morris Dancing get a pass.

I and many like me could not give a rats tossbag about the game; from what intruded upon my Central Australian news broadcasts, it reinforced the view of a boring and soft pastime.

Pride in one's country is all well and good, and sports is one of the safest ways to manifest it - beats war. But sports can also far too easily be taken out of proportion. It's just a game, after all.

And I was more upset that Mexico lost than the US. I like the US more, it is my country, but I saw early on that they weren't going anywhere. Whereas Mexico is another country I like, and they lost a close match to Argentina, whom I despise.

I just ignore the sports in which the US is weak and focus on things like Olympic snowboarding, where we dominate. Sure, it's kind of cheating, but whatever.

Im only "Canadian" (usually im a Quebequer) when its the stanley cup and Montréal is not there or when there is a international sports contest. e.g. the olympics.

Certainly not. If you don't want to watch a freakin's soccer game, that does not make you a traitor.

Supporting the opposite team will, however ;)
I did get a couple of funny looks when shouting 'SWEEEEEDENNN!!!!!' in the pub during that match:mischief:

I guess that makes me an idiot too...

Americans care about soccer as much as Aussies care about baseball.

Why??? becuase he doesn't enjoy soccer?? That's pretty harsh. I personally think all 'organized' sports are a waste of time and money. I guess I must be downright insane

:nope: No, you are not. I am almost with you.
I would like to see "individual sports" have more support and be more popular than the pathetic tight-asses in most "team sports".

Celebrate everything when your winning, be nonchalant when you aint :p
