Amazon goes insane: LOTR prequel series incoming

I think the ones who would change the race of an existing character of clearly established race are probably a minority (and even then, in film/tv, I think a majority would do it if an otherwise outstanding actor auditioned and wowed them and the only problem was his or her race),

But the ones who would consider adding new non white characters in a previously white settings, or to cast non-white characters in a society, culture or oreille generally described as white are probably a lot more numerous.

To put it one way: the number of people willing to cast Shakespeare as black unless an actor really wows them is probably relatively low, but the number of people willing to have black characters in a story with Shakespeare likely much higher.

Sauron returns...

About The Rings of Power Season 2: Sauron has returned. Cast out by Galadriel, without army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will. Building on Season 1’s epic scope and ambition, Season 2 of Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power plunges even its most beloved and vulnerable characters into a rising tide of darkness, challenging each to find their place in a world that is increasingly on the brink of calamity. Elves and dwarves, orcs and men, wizards and Harfoots… as friendships are strained and kingdoms begin to fracture, the forces of good will struggle ever more valiantly to hold on to what matters to them most of all… each other.

Sauron returns...

yup..i saw the trailer about a week ago or so. It appears they may have recast the actor that played the leader of the orcs.

So LotR imitates Warcraft which imitated LotR in the first place.

Oh no, you're not alone.

Rings of Power season 2 is already getting pretty bad reviews

Well, maybe not quite that much, and I must admit I rather like the slow and thoughtful approach. But at least in season 1 the problem was that it was taking a slow and thoughtful approach to storylines that were mostly not very interesting. It felt a bit like watching lots of secondary plotlines from which the main one had been removed. At least one or two could have been cut out entirely and the whole thing wrapped up in four episodes max.

Wasn't S1 an unusually expensive series already? Is this the same cost-wise?

They factor in the costs of Amazon procuring the rights from the Tolkien estate and I can tell you that they weren't cheap.

What is absolutely insane however, is that NBC Universal likely paid even more (~$400M) for The Exorcist IP, an IP that hasn't seen a box office hit since the Friedkin film from the early 1970s. That pricetag may include future film budgets, but it is still one of the worst deals in Hollywood of all time.
