America: Write Your Own History

I'm still going to be protesting a free market economy without at least heavy welfare and environmentalism.

I really feel that schools in America here will teach about Browder and how he was so terrible, kind of like how Germany in real life teaches about WWII.

I'm still going to be protesting a free market economy without at least heavy welfare and environmentalism.

Considering the atrocities Browder committed not having welfare to help people get back on their feet would be inhumane. However once they do get back on their feet then we start cutting back on it until only those who really need it are covered.

DKVM, please, just drop the whole socialism thing for a while, both for story reasons and for out of story reasons. There is no way that after this you'd still be "WE WANT THE STATE TO RUN THE ECONOMY!" And I'm tired of constantly working in all of you protestors into the story. It's exhausting and unrealistic.

I don't know how much Germany talks about Hitler as it is a very dark period in its history. My mom (a native German) dislikes any talk of him

I said welfare, not central planning. It would be insane to run central planning when communists are at an all-time low in support.

In my post, I said welfare and environmentalism which means I want the environmentalism civic instead of free-market like the debs era environmentalism.

From watching videos of someone explaining (a native German who currently lives in Germany), he describes it as something that was forced down your throats since you were kids, and constantly told how bad it was, and that Germans would get sick of hearing about it after a while.

That's probably what it was. I'm sure the jokes in America get very annoying after a while.

I'm pretty sure that they didn't show disdain towards any Russians considering Stalin was an ally.

First, the Russians were capitalist during the Browder Administration. Second, I intended this to be an unfortunate case of individual racism; after all, another SESTAP agent came and intervened. After all, even a totalitarian government can't wipe out racism from the map by force. It's why egregious racial profiling was present despite the Communist Party's message of tolerance. (And sometimes not even that; in OTL, the Soviet Union under Stalin was quite antisemitic at times.)

Not to downplay the guy but it's probably just a political move like jack said.

The Provisional Transition

Atoms for Peace

After the United Front officially dissolved following the end of the Browder Administration, General Ike drove to Chicago to see the nuclear arsenal. Sweat dripped down his forehead as he saw the tremendous missiles, knowing that if things had failed, tens of millions would have lost their lives to the evil dictatorship. Ordering them sent to an even more secret location, he then gave a speech to the city of Chicago entitled the "Atoms for Peace" speech. In summary, he said that nuclear weapons were a danger to humanity, and that nuclear power should be used for clean energy. Meeting with world leaders, he negotiated several anti-nuclear weapon treaties and created an organization that focused on keeping an eye out for nuclear production.

Transition

Organizing a special, transparent committee, the Eisenhower Provisional Government quickly got to work to reconstructing the government. With little known Harry Truman leading the committee, some key concerns came up. What about our capital? General Ike replied, New York City will act as the temporary capital of the United States, but as soon as blueprints and funds are prepared, we will reconstruct Washington as good as it ever was. The constitution? The bill of rights? Not to worry, attested General Ike, opening up an envelope and showing the committee and the press photos of the original Constitution and Bill of Rights, they will be re-enacted just as they had been in pre-Communist years. They will be once again put on display in the National Archives of Washington after its completion. Furthermore, a referendum will be held that will elect a new wave of senators, representatives, and justices to restore the three branches of government. General Ike then concluded by saying he and another committee were working tirelessly to set up trade agreements and diplomatic standings with other nations.

Blueprints for the reconstruction of Washington were worked on by a team of architects and engineers selected from around the world. Leading the team was British architect Edward Maufe, known for building places of worship and memorials. Congratulated by both Eisenhower and Churchill, the cooperation of Maufe greatly improved US-Commonwealth relations. Maufe, in addition to repairing the majority of Washington, also planned several memorials (such as the Debs, Lockwood, and Secessionist Martyr Memorials). Construction found delays in funding as the provisional government transitioned back to a capitalist democracy, as well as needing supplies that now had to be transported from overseas.

When traveling to South Africa, he was applauded by the local people. Walking into a local senate, he watched as the government officially renamed a city in the state of Mozambique to Quelimane. The name was intended to be easier to pronounce, and better reflected the residents as Portuguese influence had been gone for more than a century.
Spoiler :

Eisenhower also oversaw the reinstatement of the tax system, the reinstatement of the Federal Bank and the production of currency, and a plan to pay off all foreign and domestic debt.

America Abroad

General Eisenhower and some selected officials then traveled around the world, renewing foreign relations and establishing treaties. With the American Empire lost, several key resources were needed. Copper, aluminum, sugar, coffee, wool, fruit, incense, and tea were all demanded by establishing American businesses. As Eisenhower traveled the world, met with leaders, and gave honest and straightforward speeches, the world recognized the resurrection of America and respected its integrity. Most of the world re-opened borders with the re-rising nation, with the exception of Germany, Mexico, Peru, and Japan. Relations with both Japan and Italy, however, improved as Eisenhower exhausted himself in diplomatic meetings and conferences. Relations with Germany deteriorated with the new Fuhrer of Germany, however, as he saw America rejecting Nazi ideologies.

Enactment of the Whitmeyer Compromise

With unanimous support, General Ike also put into official decree the Whitmeyer Compromise. With it, Communists were banned from holding executive and legislative government positions until 1965 where congress would decide on whether to extend the ban. Also, the Grievances and Reconciliation Council was founded, which processed and analyzed mountains of information from the Foster and Browder administrations in order to prepare to prosecute both administrations. The council also oversaw the end of the Appalachian Concentration Camps, and recorded those assumed lost to the camps. General Ike created a welfare program to aid those affected by the concentration camps, and restore the family to financial stability. Some funds were used to open up a few of the concentration camps as memorials. So far, the Council has verified the deaths of: James Connolly, William Z. Foster, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Herbert Hoover, and Robert Taft.

Spoiler :

Section 6:

Congress shall have the power to enforce this bill with appropriate legislation.

Section 7:
All bills in conflict with this bill are declared null and void.

Rollins Firearm Settlement

To settle disputes between pacifists, conservatives, and socialists, the Rollins Firearm Settlement was also enacted. This enabled the safe transition back to gun ownership after the gun restriction of the Browder Administration.

Spoiler :
Section 1
The ability to possess a firearm be withheld to all meeting any one the following requirements:
1) Being under 27 years of age
2) Has been found guilty of a(ny) crime(s) involving that person's use of a firearm
3) Is a known member of the Communist Party

Section 2
Any one person meeting any one of the above requirements may submit an appeal to a special committee of 7 (13 if that county's population exceeds one million people, 19 if above three million) officials in each county, appointed by that state's governor. If the committee finds that that person deserves the use of a firearm and does not break requirements 3 & 4, then they are granted a special permit allowing them the use of a handgun for two years. If the committee finds that that person deserves the use of a firearm but breaks either rule 3 or 4, then their case is then sent to a state-wide committee of 5. If that committee finds the aforementioned person deserving the use of a firearm, then it is carried to a national committee of 9 appointed by and consisting of Congressmen. If this panel finds the person deserving of a permit, then that individual shall be granted the aforementioned permit. Any committee finding that person not deserving of the use of a firearm shall notify the sender of the appeal.

I don't know about you, but the deal for Austrian aluminum is pretty heavy. Not much you can do, I guess, as we probably don't have too many other alternatives until we regain our American territory in North America

Indeed!

lurker's comment: Very nice story! That link in your sig is dangerous! At first I'm skimming the first few pages, by the third Adams term I'm hooked, and the next thing I know the Civil War is over! Nice idea with the elections deciding the course of policy, too. I also like the variety of candidates presented; even as a history minor there have been several, such as Gerrit Smith, that I was unfamiliar with or had forgotten.
