An ideal society

Never read that one - does it have lots of women with big knockers in it?
The X-rated version does but you can only buy that in specialist shops. I think they're called bookshops but I'm not to sure about that.
A little while ago, I thought I knew what, IMO, would be an ideal society:
An ideal society would be a nightmare. It is the imperfections that make life worth living.

People can not reach perfection, since it does not exist. A 'perfect' world, therefore, will never exist. and luckely, since it would be pretty boring and lame, I thing. Also, wanting perfection makes you like the :borg:

I am loathe to say it, WillJ, but Mr Greadius has a good point here!

His dough, his offspring, his right to give them a good start in life.

I cannot see what is wrong with it.
I would do the same in his shoes.
But why would you even want to if education is free? And the reason I don't want parents providing for their own kids' educations is that the kids with poorer parents would have less of an oppurtunity.

So the obvious answer is to drag everyone down to the same level. Genius! That's how real progress is made.

 Uhm, I'm pushing everyone up to the same level, not dragging them down.

Nothing like a little enforced equality to keep everyone at a high level.

In my "ideal society," no kids' oppurtunities are being limited. Everyone can get any type of education or training they want, and therefore, you wouldn't need to worry about providing your kids with an education. As to how it would be enforced: It wouldn't need to be, since no parent would pay for their child's education when they could have it for free, or if they did, the government would happily take the money. :D As to how this would be possible: I doubt it is.
You're assuming everyone has the same concept of what constitutes a good education.

But I was mainly talking about the peripherals. So, as a kid, I was given science kits, telescopes, I traveled Europe, learned two foreign languages, ect. Some poor kid obviously didn't have the same exposure, and that kind of oppertunity put me ahead by any account.

According to your society, that would give me an unfair advantage so it shouldn't have been allowed.

Hey, I never said it would be easy to achieve. :) Plus, not everyone stays at a high level. It's just that everyone is born with a near-equal oppurtunity for success. People that don't take advantage of that have to work in sewers, sell fast food, etc.

OK, now I see your point. I guess in my ideal society, all kids could get all the educational tools that they want and that would be reasonable to give to them. Then, once they turn a certain age and are able to fend for themselves, they only get what they earn.

Also, I'm not saying that your young life and your parents were wrong; I'm just saying that everyone should be able to be raised like that. Again, I don't see how this is easily possible; I'm just thinking of an ideal society.

Utopia just like the status quo means something different to everyone. I am sure my version of Utopia would be someone elses personal hell. Try reading about some of the early utopian movements in early 19th century america, it will give you deeper perspective on the whole Utopian Ideals.
