Ancient European Spearmen

Well there's more important European, Asian and African units that need to be made first, but I could make it eventually.
I only mentioned the "Davy Crockett" American Explorer look because if you're going to do Explorers (which we STILL only have ONE Conquistador for EVERY Civ in the game), and if you're picking up the Explorer challenge, that would be one for the books. I can't imagine Americans using Conquistadors anymore then Germans, British, Japanese, Khmer and whoever. I think if the Explorers are to be done to flavor, that would be one to do as well.

My 2-cents.

So what's next on your plate Chug?!?! :crazyeye:

Explorers :)
Yeah!

Also... I don't know if you noticed, or if you were aware, but there is ONE custom Explorer out there that isn't a Conquistador. I forget who did it, but there is a custom African Explorer with the "non-combatant" African Flavor pack floating around here.

That's at least one unit you don't have to make... or at least could put-off in comparison to nations that have absolutely nothing (which is about the other 32 nations!).

Chug/anybody...

Is it just me, or is the Germanic Spearman with the Celtic helmet (and possibly the others?) have ONE of the Three guys in formation holding their spear "backwards" when in the "Fortify" defensive stance?

I've not seen that before with other spearmen... they've all had their spear tips facing in front of them, but I'm getting one of my three spearmen (using the Germanic Spearman with the Celtic helmet model) holding his spear backwards (sharp end pointing behind him) in the fortified stance.

A minor quible to be sure, but something I thought I'd point out... I can get a screen-shot if necessary.

No idea, but if it is then it's a firaxis problem (their animations). :) Most fortify animations are dodgy looking anyway. :)
Eh... no biggie... a very minor thing to be sure... I just thought it odd because I hadn't seen that before. It was weird because the other two guys had their spears facing the proper direction. I guess the one German had too much mead the night before or something.

here's the magellan type explorer which can be used for euro civs :)

I better start getting that thread ready..........
If you want criticism... he's not wearing the same outfit... beard might be wrong, but I can't tell cuz of the funny hat...

Otherwise, looks good to me! :goodjob:

Thanks criticism is good.

If you really want criticism, I could mention that the body of the unit combined with the outfit remains me a bit of a woman's shape. :p

I can try to fix that. :)

He's not supposed to look exactly like Magellan :) just a generic renaissance european explorer...

Nope no team colour yet (I've sort of gone off that for now). The sword it has at the moment is the default explorer sword which you can see when it's fortified or attacking.

The red does seem a little bright, so maybe another duller colour...
