ANES01 Preliminary Rules Work

IMHO Living Standards and Happiness should be merged, and Happiness and Loyalty should be merged. If you can make contentment a really meaningful statistic i think you;ll find it a great boon, but if they stay split up like that i feel they have little to no meaning.

I'm still confused though, is this the Ice World Steampunk one, because i want that now, i remember the old topics!

Nonsense, living standards and happiness can hardly be merged. After all, what's the old saying? Money can't buy happiness ;)

Happiness and loyalty shouldn't be merged either, I'm loyal to the United States as a country, but I'm hardly happy with how things are going. :p It does get kinda messed up in democracies/republics. People are generally always loyal to the "country" but sometimes not at the current party in power.

How do you differtiate(can't spell that) between a loyalty to the country as opposed to say a party? An example is that democrats and republicans will both say they love the US of A. They just don't like the democratics/republicans depending on whose in power.

Frankly, confidence is a kinda useless stat, as it varies dramatically over time. It all really depends on success in recent events. Ancient successes would be part of a nations culture.

I dont exactly consider WW1 as modern, I dont care what historians say unless we are blowing up people with jets and rocket artillery it aint modern.

Don't be an @$$ Symphony, I'm one of the only ones contributing in this thread, and i have read the whole f-ing thread and you sya its going to be a unique world that is going to BT to Industrial Age from Mediveal Technology and Homogenous in Culture and Language. NO WHERE does it mention whether or not it will be Ice World or Steampunk. We know your not that dense Symph. Its really a simple question that you could have answered easier than saying what you did. Way to be counter-productive:goodjob: You done good:p

And on the Techonolgical Standpoint, you mention theories. Does this mean we would have to reseach Political and Economic theories or only Scientific Ones. And if it is Scientific Ones, i think you should be able to make the theory, and the EC spend should be testing it until it works or is proven or gains support, but you shouldn't always have to test it, like Eugenics or something.

The crapshoot interests me, and i like the Centauri System. That seems sufficent.

Dachs sees an oxymoron! ;)

As for the rules: I can't really contribute anything useful due to the lack of any good ideas on my part whatsoever. I really like the realistic (and in my experience original) method of undertaking research, though.

Can't contribute anything neither, not yet anyway - in any case, the system looks good so far, and generally it all seems quite promising. When exactly do you intend to start it?

It'll be done when it's done!

Like the research btw.

or do you not care so long as it's a good system?

About the size of it for me. As you had said, both systems have their advantages - whatever you think will suit the NES better... Somehow, however, I think that the second option will work better (having examined firsthand the deficiencies of my own system - though personally probably I wouldn't abandon it. I am planning some modifications and improvements for ITNES even as I type).

Do you have a preference, or do you not care?

Care to specify what "power level" is exactly? If its a sum of economic and military might like I think it is, these things tend to grow increasingly unbalanced as time goes anyway (yet at the same time do occasionally change quite radically).

My opinion on economic sacrifice is easy to guess, I realize that it is somewhat unrealistic (perhaps some checks are in order? Like bigger penalties for confidence and long-run detriment for the economy due to the inherent instability), but agree with your arguments for it.

Are you willing to stomach a few simple formulas in order to get a more realistic system?

Personally I am willing to do so, especially as indeed it isn't hard to get used to such systems (at least, it wasn't hard for me in Stormbringer's NES). I am somewhat more suspicious of some other players, especially those that complained in stSbNES and those that failed to understand the (sometimes confusing, but still comparatively simplistic) NES2 VI rules (nothing personal, ofcourse...).

The EZ system sounds nice (I got killed before I could play around with it in LINES II, so don't have any experience working with it), though potentially hard for the mod to work with. I could also see it influencing the military campaigning in a good way (encouraging invasons of territories near your richer, more densely-populated EZs (where logistical support and reinforcements would be easier to organize) and at the same time making said EZs more defensible).

So in the end I'm probably for it, if you think you're up to the task of managing these.
