Inherited Turn, 670AD
Change Fustat from Ansar (due in 14) to Cat (due in 1)
Steal a mined hill from Bodo, giving it to Yamana. Tried to up Bodo's courthouse, but no matter how many shields I give it, they're all corrupt. Yamana, however, goes up to 2spt with the second mined hill.
IBT-
We lose our furs.
India demands ... silks and 63gpt!!! I've never seen a tribute like that before. Since they're almost dead I tell them to stuff it.
Turn 1, 680AD
Somehow there was no scientist last turn. So Metalurgy comes a turn later.
Can buy Metallurgy from Ottomans for 29gpt, 201g, silks & WM, but the trade route goes through China, so I do not do it.
IBT-
Spain wants Chemistry. Too bad they don't have anything.
Turn 3, 700AD
Cats roll towards front lines. Trade around world maps. Wow, look at that Ottoman ingenuity:
Turn 4, 710AD
IBT- Just as I was about to buy them into it, Americans declare on China!
Turn 5, 720AD
Hmm... That cav army is going to hit Trondheim next turn; I am going to risk that they will not take the city with the army & 2 cavs.
I am glad I did not renegotiate the furs deal. Next turn our incense with Egypt expires and we will not piss anyone off by declaring on China.
IBT-
America attacks Trondheim: 2 cavs redline rifles then die, the cav army takes out a third. another rifle on top, so there are at least 3 in trondheim.
China destroys India. They retreat a cav to a musket and lose another battle that we can only see half of.
Turn 6, 730AD
Cancel deal with Egypt for Incense and Ivory. MA with America against China and get Metallurgy for 56gpt. Goal is to ride the coattails of the American invasion taking as many weakened cities as possible.
Lux to 20% to counter lux loss. Hire a taxman in Bodo.
I am going to risk one more turn waiting on Trondheim. There are at least 3 defenders. Cav army will take out one. 5 knights left, which I do not think will take out 2 rifles fortified in a 9 pop city. Hope I'm right.
Advance cats on Trondheim. And then I remembered I could have upgraded them first. Nah, I didn't have the turn to spare.
Unsure how many cats I want to upgrade (want money to upgrade ansars), so I only do 5 in key towns.
Egypt will join the battle for 29gpt. I'll leave that up to the Americans.
Well, silly me. Ottomans do have a trade route because
they have metallurgy. So I do the following:
Sadly, it prevents upgrading troops, but I think we wanted that tech ASAP.
Research set to Education. If we want to try for the Great Library longshot, then switch off, but it's the only necessary tech to research.
IBT-
Americans lose a knight to Trondheim and do not attack with other knights. Cav army kills a rifle and runs away, as do other knights.
Chinese cav loses to fortified Ansar.
Turn 7, 740AD
Upgrade an Ansar to cavalry.
Catapults hit 2 out of 12: one citizen killed (down to 7), and one rifle wounded.
With the Americans backing off Trondheim, I will wait on the attack and keep bombarding, hopefully getting the town to pop 6 or less.
Spain has Education. I will wait for discussion before trading, although I really would do so -- however I do not know if others believe the Great Library Heist is possible/probable. I don't believe Spain has anyone else to trade Education to, anyway.
IBT-
Our first cavalry finish production.
Uh-oh, the wrong way... Egypt allies with China against America. Looks like it may turn into a World War.
This is almost humorous, if it weren't us. Cavalry kills musket in Muskat, and then
-- we lose our furs. Half our empire riots.
Turn 8, 750AD
Wanted to raise Lux, but that put us in the red, so I hire entertainers, taxmen, and a scientist.
Looks like China has put Trondheim down into pop 6 for us.
Seige of Trondheim:
Cats go 1 for 13: kill a citizen.
Cavalry kills elite rifle.
Ansar does -1HP and retreats
Ansar redlines rifle and dies (promo rifle).
Ansar redlines, kills 3/4 rifle and promos.
Ansar kills conscript rifle.
Ansar kills conscript rifle.
Ansar redlines, kills conscript rifle.
Ansar retreats, no damage done.
Ansar redlines 2/4 rifle, dies.
Ansar redlines, kills conscript rifle.
Ansar kills 1/4 rifle and we have Trondheim.
I

the RNG

I lost less ansars here than against muskets when attacking Scandinavia.
We now control Pyramids and Sistines.
Trondheim set to barracks.
n/m on that RNG thing... Ansar retreats to Longbow.
Ansar kills longbow flawlessly.
We are short of cash, so I trade America Wines + 5g for Ivory & 6gpt.
Income raises from 18 (before deal) to 25gpt.
IBT-
Egypt signs MA with China against us.
Ansar kills a rifle, retreats from a second, and is killed by a third.
Rider kills an ansar in Shiraz.
Resistance in Trondheim ends.
Turn 9, 760AD
Hurry walls in Shiraz for 24g.
Cats go 2 for 6 against rifle, redlining it.
Rest of cats fortify in Shiraz; reinforce the town.
Ansar kills longbow, -1HP.
Ansar kills Cav, -1HP.
Scout muscat with cav, then retreat it: it has a rifle on top.
IBT-
Egypt builds Shakespeare.
Egypt took 4 American cities IBT! Americans have no cities in the west except for Aarhus now. I should have bought them in against China, dang it.
Turn 10, 770AD
Cats go 3/11 against a chinese cav. Elite ansar mops up.
Upgrade Ansar to chinese Cav for 40g.
Cats go 0/3 against chinese rifle. Cannons go 2/2.
Ansar kills egypt knight, -2HP.
Cavalry kills 2/4 chinese rifle, -1HP and promo.
Cavalry kills egypt cav, -1HP.
Lots of troops still are only fortified. Troops in Trondheim will be healed by next turn. We need money to upgrade cavs, and we need Egypt to go away. I guess I blundered here; I over-estimated America's strength and figured we didn't want Egypt to become too big like China now.
The good news is that once America settles for peace we'll get our money back.
Remember, we can get Education and everything else Spain has for Chemistry. However, if America gets pushed back too far, maybe the Great Library Heist will be a little more plausible.
Sorry for the hole I put us in. I tried to take what I thought was an advantage and with not signing Egypt into an MA ended up possibly ruining it.
Here's the current battlefield. I took priority of killing cavs over rifles, but both are a problem:
Did I do bad? I'm willing to learn
Edit: Just realized, that we may have lost our deal with America when Egypt took all those towns. If so, our rep is hurt. I'd hate to think I managed to do all that in just the last 5 turns.
