I picked up a copy of "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right" by Al Franken at a Barnes and Noble today. I read two chapters, it was good, very funny and interesting.

Reading the chapter about Ann Coulter reminded me of the time I picked up Ann Coulter's recent book, Slander. It seemed like a load of **** to me - she praised McCarthy (saying that liberals have turned him into a witchhunter when he was really a patriotic American trying to save the government from Russia), said he only investigated goverment employees (even though I remember reading an article in the Times about him interrogating poets and musicians whose names escape me now), and ridiculed Kennedy as causing all of the military problems of the 60s and 70s.

Her book was (or maybe still is) a Number 1 Times Bestseller, and she's getting lots of press as a vocal conservative voice. I personally think she's an ultra-conservative psycho, and her book is an extremely slanted view at the 20th century, probably full of lies. What do you think? I'd especially like to here conservatives opinions of her.

EDIT: Wow, I didn't notice the "Genius or ______" thread just below this one. :wallbash:

Personally, I agree with quite a bit of what she has to say, but she's radical even compared to me. So, maybe a mix of the two.

She's radical compared to Rush Limbaugh, which is the litmus test of recent years. She and the "G Man", G Gordon Liddy should get along well.

It should be noted that Ronald Reagan got political feet wet in the fight against McCarthy in Hollywood. Back then he was a Democrat.

I would call her evil before insane

no jk.....I simply think she lives in an alternate reality so I guess I would call her neurotic

Since I listen to talk radio and read news articles from WorldNetDaily and CNS, I'm very familiar with the name Ann Coulter. I have heard her speak, but have not read her book.

Even as a staunch conservative, I would take the things she said with a grain of salt until her "facts" could be verified. People like her (Mike Savage, somewhat Sean Hannity), who spew venom and attempt to shout down their opponents instead of talking with them, I have a difficult time with.

Conservatives in this genre I highly respect are the likes of Roger Hedgecock, Tony Snow, and George Will who are all interested in intelligent discourse and dialouge.

That is what interests me most.

Suggested reading: "The New Thought Police" by Tammy Bruce --self-proclaimed liberal, lesbian, feminist and former president of the LA chapter of NOW. She takes an insider's look at the "agenda" of those on the extreme left. Very interesting.

Well, if you can ignore "her" Adam's apple & keep her mouth full she is a 9, but she quickly drops to a 2 if you let her talk.

In the chapter I read on her, Franken pointed out that she is a liar, or at least had a terrible fact-checking team. Like she said that, as an example of the Times liberalism, they didn't report the death of Dale Earnheardt until 2 days after and the opening line of the article was, "People in Wal-Mart are weeping" (or something like that). Too bad it was printed the day after his death, and said nothing like that in the article. Or she said that someone was related to a Socialist candidate who ran for President 4 times early in the century, when the two had no connection whatsoever and the guy actually ran 6 times.

:hmm:

The name of Coulter's most recent book (where she fights to redeem McCarthy) is Treason. Slander was her first book.

And just to be fair and balanced, here's a link to Franken's newest book (where he targets both Coulter and Fox News star Bill O'Reilly), Lies and the Lying Liars that Tell Them.

Finally, I'd like to add that Ann is a hate filled scumbag spewing forth fifth rate ideas and intellectual garbage. But that's just my (always humble) opinion.

What Liberal Media? also points he faults. I saw her on TV (wow for me!) and she was just like, totally offtarget but very convincing in a bad way.

She gives me an idea of how conservatives must feel when they hear Michael Moore open up his big yapper, although I believe even he isn't nearly as belligerent and offensive as her.

She says what angry extremists like to hear. What's sad is their growing numbers may soon slot them in the "moderate" section of the political spectrum.

I can't stand people like Coutler, who do nothing but lash out against people that don't agree with her views, labeling them traitors, which is probably one of the worst things you can say about someone. I've watched her listen on numerous shows and she can't even form a sentence without bashing someone on the left. While I am not a conservative (really more of a centrist), I will listen and respect the views of people like (as mentioned above) Geroge Will because he can actually form many complete sentences, and not attack someone's character.

It used to be that at the end of the day, many people in government, even those on opposite sides of the political spectrum, could and were great friends. Now...every day is a war, with a scorched earth policy that really brings down the class of the place. Now, if a conservative and liberal were friends outside the workplace...well, people view that as wierd and, traitorous to their party, somehow.

To be fair, I read the Amazon excerpt of Franken's new book, and he strikes me as as much of a loudmouth airhead as Coulter, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, and the rest of them.

Chomsky and Zinn may be too far to the left for me, but at least they research what they're writing. Since when have we ever had a conscientious conservative commentator who ever rose up to that level of research?

She is a ****ing mad ***** adored by the Republican right-wing nutters.

She looked a reasonably nice girl however, so all might be forgiven :yeah:

Actually I think she is too far to the right for most Republicans. At least the Republicans in my family feel that way.
