Anno Domini for Civ IV

In order to celebrate my 3,000th post, here's Maeve of Eire's Civ IV look. I've a feeling that woodelf will like this image ;) . Actually, she's rather pale and I'll have to sort that shadow out a little better - but you get the idea I hope!

The leaderhead that catwhowalksbyhi meant could have been the one that Partizanac linked to, however, this is Alexander with a helmet on. It's very well done, but it's not an original animation. I'd be interested to find out if this is the leaderhead catwhowalksbyhi was talking about. If it is possible to create unique animated leaderheads, I'd love to know more!

The two best reps for Ethiopia would either by Ezana of Axum (4th century AD -- helped found the Ethiopian Christian Church), or Zara Yaqob (around the time of the Ottoman empire, might be a little late). Kaleb of Axum is also up there. You can find some good stuff on wikipedia.

Ezana of Axum it is then! I'm well aware of the wikipedia, but was asking you as I thought you might have some specialist knowledge (from reading your previous posts).

Yes, this is what I'm referring to. Yes, the animations are from a regular leaderhead, but since the mesh itself was taken from a regular unit, then the animations should be done in a very similar fashion. It should just be a matter of naming them properly. Animations tend to be evern more complicated than the mesh itself, from what I've heard from Freedom Force meshers.

The thing I want to be able to be done is an original leaderhead - something like one of the images in this thread. At this stage, I'm not worried about the movement being copied in from another leaderhead, as long as the leader him/herself looks completely different.

When Civ III was in its infancy, creators such as Ghengisfarb and Sween32 had created new animated leaderheads and there were a few available before the first expansion pack came out. It's a shame that this isn't true of Civ IV. Whilst I appreciate that the amended leaderheads that people have done are very good, it'd be great to be able to create original artwork. We need to find out how to do it - maybe creating a knowledge thread of new things learnt about the process.

First of all: :goodjob:
Second of all:

Third, about unique techs:

One question (being a veteran Civ III modder, but new to Civ IV modding) : are unique techs available - i.e. I want to have Danelaw as a tech but only give it to the Norse. I've done this in Civ III, but can it be done in Civ IV?

Basically the way they have the Civ4 engine set up....if you want to make it happen, you can.

In FfH2, The Lanun are the only ones with access to Seafaring, enabled by the Never tech, which is disabled for anybody else and fullfills many other functions, right? Maybe something similar could be done with Danelaw & other unique tech that's going to be included.

You should ask the person in the FfH team responsible for implementing that.

Also, the Lanun are the only ones who can use (or see) the pearl resource. Civ, race, religion, ect specific stuff is super possible.

That's great news. I worked a similar system in CivIII - the "Never" tech was, for example, "Jewish tradition" or something like that. Calling it something authentic gave it a reason for being there as well as looking better in the Civilopedia ;) .

I'm glad you like her. Just think what she'd be like animated :) !!

Maeve looked a little too vampiric, so I've updated her with a new complexion and added freckles! I amended the hair so that it showed more of her faced and fixed the shadow. I hope you feel that the update looks far better :) !

Time to start working on the mod Rob so we can play with these guys. ;)
I can't really add anything until Warlords is released in the UK. I've already got the tech tree mapped out from my Civ III version ;) !!

Besides, I've got a 17-day break at the end of August/start of September - at which point I'm going to dedicate some time to setting up the initial version of the mod.

One constructive criticism for otherwise magnificent artwork -- I think the teeth generally look off to me. My favorite leader graphics have their mouth closed, I think.

(I hate to nitpick. It really would be fine if you left them alone.)

Anno Domini is coming for civ4! Yupi!

It's time for some of the civ3 exceptional moders to try civ4. I recently switched myself, and I'm currently learning Python (I managed to make a currency convertor and a small text game while practicing). I do have a good idea for a mod, though I won't announce it until I have something to show for it.

I was thinking of using some of the animated leaderheads that have been made from amending existing leaderheads as placeholders in the mod until we can make our own original leaderheads. I would only use each base model once and leave alone those that are made from leaders already in the game. Also some Firaxis leaderheads could be re-assigned. Here's some thoughts:
Qin : use Qin She Haung (as himself) and Wang Keon as Zhoaxiang
Sumeria : use the Kublai Khan remake as Gilgamesh
Huns : use Genghis Khan (or a remake of him) as Attila
Byzantines : use the Isabella remake as Theodora
Nok : use Shaka as Obatala
Nubia : use the Huayna Capac remake as Taharqa
Saba : use Hatshepsut's Polynesian makeover as Makeda
Harrapa : mod Ghandi so he's not wearing glasses and give him a different background
Ghana : use Mansa Musa as Tenkamenin
Carthage : use Victoria's Maria Theresa makeover as Dido to get a second leader (Hannibal is the other one)
