Anno Domini for Civ IV

There are some reskinned animated LHs in the graphics or units threads. I'm not sure if any could save you some work or not.

Personally I prefer the old style of static with different poses. I don't need to see Alexander shrug his shoulders, Peter scowl, ect. Seems a bit unnecessary to me.

The fact is, an original leaderhead, even with borrowed animations has been done, so it CAN be done. You'd pretty much have to figure it out yourself, though I dare say the guy that made the one referred to could help.

This is all assuming you use 3ds max. 3rd part exporters DO NOT work with animations and only are designed specifically with one game in mind, since .nifs are adapted somowhat from game to game and each game looks for different things in the .nifs that only the exporters intended for that game can guarantee.

We only have a limited ability, which is to retexture existing leaderheads. They're well done, but they're not original, which is what I want to do. I have 3ds max, but no-one has yet figure out how to import original artwork into the game (in terms of leaderheads). There's the odd thread where people are trying and not quite succeeding.

I wonder if anyone who's in touch with Firaxis could help unravel the mystery.

I repeat again, that leaderhead we were linked to WAS ORIGINAL. It was made by taking a unit and converting it NOT BY RESKINNING. So again, it has been done, by one single person. I don't know why that's so hard for you to get.

True, it's not quite as advanced as what you are hoping for, but it is a start.

What C.Roland did was put a helmet over the existing Alexander leaderhead, which is completely different to what I want to do. It's a start, but asioasioasio and myself have found that we can't import our original animated 3d leaderhead models from 3ds max into Civ IV without it crashing.

We must find a way to use the leaderheads you've done for civ3! They're lovely, there's no need to try new ones. Maybe you should try contacting Firaxis.

Harrapa : mod Ghandi so he's not wearing glasses and give him a different background
Ghandi is too recognizable to qualify as anything else than himself. In addition I don't think we can easily remove the glasses.

I've tried, but not got a response to this particular query.

The glasses were removed for modded versions of this leaderhead. I take your point, but it was just a thought....remember that this would simply be a placeholder.

Then I guess I've been the one who isn't reading carefully. I thought it was a whole new model using other animations.

someone will figure it out one of these days.

I've now bought Warlords online (so after it was activated, I no longer need to have the CD/DVD in the drive) therefore I'd better start working directly on the mod this weekend ;) .

Great news. With Vassal States in the XP this is a mod that will need Warlords.

How or where do you get it online... I live in Korea, so purchasing it is difficult. Be nice not to have a DVD/CD shipped here... it takes too long.
direct2drive - type that into google and off you go ;) .

I'll have to check how that works exactly, but sounds good for Anno Domini :) .

Wow! Anno Domini for Civ IV?? Sweet!! The Leaderheads are awesome Rob! I am definitely looking forward to this release...

Anno Domini is one of the best mods for Civ III - I'm sure the Civ IV version will be spectacular. What a shame I can't run the game!

For Ethiopia, have a look at my Haile Selassie leaderhead - I think the outfits and general look for the different eras are about right, so that might help with designing yours. But yes, Ethiopian leaders should be a bit Arabic-looking (paler than Sudanese or West Africans) and wear more clothes than the tattoos-and-bits-of-grass style.

I've seen your Haile Salassie leaderhead and it's very good - yes I'll use that for ideas. Incidently, it was his birthday last Sunday, but did I see "Happy birthday Haile Salassie" in the Civ III C&C forum? There's been plenty of that sort of thread in there lately (my own birthday included), but I guess it would be getting too much to have it for leaderheads too ;) .

It's a shame you can't run Civ IV, Plotinus, you're missing a treat. Please stop by this thread and give some advice though as the mod progresses!

I'm more than happy to give whatever advice is needed, Rob - just let me know, in case I miss something in the thread (I don't habituate the Civ IV fora, for obvious reasons). I'd love to be able to play Civ IV (Rambuchan was raving about it last time I saw him) but I have only a laptop, and I was most annoyed to discover that you can't get graphics cards for laptops! No-one had told me that before.

There are some laptops it works on, apparently - I hope yours is one of those :) . I'd be grateful for any help, hints and advice from you! Right now, I'm slowly learning to mod in Civ IV, using the tutorials section and looking at other mods to see how they've actually modded the game.

I've been thinking of using Brennus (with a different background) as Calgacus of the Picts...hopefully that would be reasonably authentic.

I've found the original poser files for some of my Civ III Anno Domini - so I thought I might update some of those and put them into the Civ IV version. Here, for example, is an update of Cartimandua of Brigantia:

Cartimandua.jpg

I'm looking to introduce some new traits; one that I was considering (and the Brigantians would have this trait) is Agricultural. If I can do this, it would grant three free food to each city and the granary would be buildable at half the cost.

If anyone's interested in the other traits I was thinking about, there's Seafaring - harbour half cost and a free upgrade to all sea units and I was going to change Industrious so that the empires with that trait have the fast workers rather than finishing wonders quickly; this facility would be available to a new Builder trait.
