Anno Domini for Civ IV

She looks fantastic Rob.

For the Agricultural trait I modified my personal mod so that it worked like financial, meaning on plots with 3 food you get 1 more. The 1/2 cost buildings can be grouped on as well. For Industrial I did the same think with hammers. On plots with 3 you get one more since I hate the 50% cost of Wonders for that trait.

I thought of that as another possibility for Agricultural - but as a Civ IV modding newbie, I'm not entirely sure how to do it - please could you explain how (or point to a tutorial)?

I simply went into the Civ4TraitInfos XMlfile located in the Civilizations folder in the Assets folder. (Since I don't know how much you know yet Rob I'm trying to keep it simple. Tell me if I'm dumbing this down too much. :)) From there I copied the entire Financial trait, pasted it at the bottom, and renamed the relevant parts Agricultural. Find this part:

Code:
<ExtraYieldThresholds>
				<iExtraYieldThreshold>0</iExtraYieldThreshold>
				<iExtraYieldThreshold>0</iExtraYieldThreshold>
				<iExtraYieldThreshold>2</iExtraYieldThreshold>
			</ExtraYieldThresholds>

The first yield is food, second hammers, third gold. For every 2 you get one extra as it is now. Change the first 0 to a 2 or 3(I'd use 3 personally and I changed my financial from 2 to 3 as well). Change the 2 to a 0.

You'll need to mess with a Text folder so you can create a description and short description as well. Find a leader who needs Agricultural and give them TRAIT_AGRICULTURAL, fire up the game, and see if I led you astray. It's been months since I messed around with traits so I may have missed something.

Let me know if you need any other assistance. This is the sort of stuff I can work on when I'm sick of graphics. :)

I just double checked the Warlords Assets and they didn't change anything there so that should work fine.

Thanks a bunch, Woodelf! I thought it might be something to do with that part of the code, but I wasn't sure what part was food.

Here's Hector, improved from a previous Civ III incarnation:

Now that I'm plundering my Civ III libraries, I decided to change my Civ IV Teuta into Helen of Troy - which gives the Trojans two leaders:

I found a poor lost sole from my Civ III days, Theodoric of the Ostrogoths. He can make a welcome return in Civ IV. I hope you like his updated look ;) .

The only problem with having so many civs in the mix is that I'm in danger of running out of colours! I understand I can bring in some new colours, so I'll be trying that out soon.

Now a word or two about the tech tree. I'm aiming to replace all the techs in Civ IV with the tech tree from Civ III Anno Domini. What I mean by this is that I'm using the exact same tree figuration - so for example, whatever replaces rifling will still cost 1400 to research and will require whatever replaces gunpowder to become available for research. Hopefully you know what I mean!! I aim, as far as I can, to replace the techs with a tech that does more or less the same thing, only in the ancient world. So, in the example above, gunpowder units could be replaced with medieval infantry units; the gunpowder tech would become "chainmail" and the rifling tech would be replaced with "medieval weaponry." Although this gives a rigid start to the process, it does ensure that the tech tree is fairly balanced and works right for Civ IV. It's how I approached the Civ III version and it worked well. Obviously, once the structure is in place, I can tinker ad finitum - and I will ;) !!

there is a colorvaluetable by simcutie somewhere in the modcomponents or graphicmods I don't recall but that certainly has enough colors;)
Those LHs are awesome, good job!

@woodelf
is there any single mod you're not involved in or are there more of you than just one?:lol:

these guys look fantastic.

:lol: @ Ploep.

I simply love helping mods along with vocal support and tons of posts!

Fantastic stuff Rob.

Rob - I've been making simple older units now so if you have any requests let me know. I wouldn't mind making some older improvements or buildings either.

I'm looking to take a stab at units myself! Thanks for the offer! If you could check the Anno Domini website for wonders in the Civ III version, I'd appreciate any of these doing for Civ IV Anno Domini.

Civ III version great wonders

Civ III version small wonders

Any generic ancient-looking buildings would be nice too. I can use some of those for the improvements I need.

Civ III version improvements

I am aware that there's some buildings in the game itself and others downloadable from the fora that I can use. If you fancy having a crack at any of the buildings from the links above, I'd be grateful.

Nice. :goodjob:

I went to your CivIII site to look at what buildings you might need. I saw a Sawmill so made that tonight. You can find the thread here.

Thanks for the comments!

Dido from the Civ III version has entered the game as an alternative choice for Carthage.

Gosh, is that the Warlords Hannibal? I have to say that (unlike the Civ III Hannibal) he doesn't look an awful lot like the real Hannibal, at least as he's usually represented.

By the way, I love Cartimandua. I always thought she was one of your prettiest LHs anyway. How nice to see more of her - lucky she could get that lycra armour!

I'm trying to get the perspective right for these leaderheads. Looking at the artwork above - particularly when you compare Dido, which was my artwork, with Hannibal, from the game, they're too far away from the "camera," so to speak.

With that in mind, I set about updating the Civ III Pericles to a Civ IV version. Hopefully, the scale/perspective is about right. If so, I'll update my other leaderheads to match, though the previews will be on my website (when I've updated it) rather than here.

Pericles will be the leader of Athens. His traits will be Philosophical and Seafaring. The Atheneans will pick up the Greek Agora as their unique building; I'll probably find a unit I can use as the Argyraspis (or even have a go at skinning a unit!!)

There is a section in the units thread about Greek units. I'm not sure how many are in the thread, but some skinning and nif editting was done already.
