As you're all aware, I've been working on Anno Domini for some time now; it's coming towards the end, but there's plenty of fine tuning to do. This includes completing little bits and pieces with respect to some civilizations, refining the civilopedia and making some units. I'm not sure when it's going to be finished, but I'm hoping for some time in October.

Yesterday, I pm'd a few people on the forum with some updates, and it's got me thinking. Should I upload what I've got so far to 3ddownloads, so that those that want to can have a play?

Advantages:
  • Players will be able to download and play the game ahead of schedule (although it's not quite complete, but nearly there)
  • Vital feedback can be incorporated into the full version
  • Potentially, less to patch when a full version comes out, as it will be caught in the beta test
  • Playtesters will be allowed to use any new leaderheads and units in their mods should they wish

Disadvantages:
  • People will have to download the full version in it's entirety, there won't be an upgrade version available (sorry)
  • It isn't quite finished, so a handful of civs have a small gap in the tech tree (I suppose, don't play them applies if you're that bothered!!)
  • Lack of surprise with all the new goodies bundled together when the mod comes out

I will stick by the vote here and will upload ready for the coming weekend if the vote is in favour of me uploading. For the record, my vote is yes, because I think that the feedback will be useful, there's not that many gaps and I know some people want to play certain civs ;) !

I think you should upload it. :)

Because of these reasons mainly:
# Players will be able to download and play the game ahead of schedule (although it's not quite complete, but nearly there)
# Vital feedback can be incorporated into the full version

I believe even the feedback reason alone is enough for me to vote yes, while if I have even another important one... the choice is much easier for me. :D

I voted yes.

Like Mirc says, feedback will be invaluable in finishing it. There's always fine tuning to do on any big scenario ;) And some people might actually help out with the civilopedia and other bits and pieces.

Don't bother; I'll wait until you've finished/not interested in Anno Domini

=> if you upload this, upload the finished one.

Let some players test your beta, the others have to be patient :p

Yes! By all means upload the Beta version so we can nitpick ya to a screaming fit! :p

Upload! upload! upload!

:mischief:

That was the easiest poll I've had in a while! :p

Hey Virote, wouldn't it be nice to have that ancient spearman unit done just in time for the release of the AD Beta??

:mischief:

I will...supply the unit sounds. . .

:mischief:

Voted yeah. I play on average 4-5 hours a night while listening to talk radio. I can play on my PC and write up a stultifying long pedantically detailed post simultaneously on my Mac. :mischief: I just hope the Indian civs don't have too many gaps in their tech tree. I'll work on that Mandir 'pedia entry later today so you can have it ASAP.

Nono, take your time to finish it before you release it. Why go the Microsoft route and release something before it's completely honed and tested?

Your mods are well worth the wait! :)

Because Massive conglomerate corporations don't take feedback as seriously and in as much detail as Rob would?

I say release and let those that want to help, help, and those that want to wait, wait. :D
