Any minimalists?

I think as we age we tend to not want so much materiel as we did when we were younger
That's been my experience, but there's also the stereotype of the old lady w shelves of ornaments and other useless brick a brack.

Right before my 1st daugher was born I lived w an old couple in a moldy house in the redwoods in California who had back rooms full of moldly disgusting clothes and boxes that they never wore but also wouldn't part with.

Helping people move house is good minimalist motivation. Lifting thousands and thousands of pounds of stuff, at least half of which will probably sit in a garage in the new house until they move again makes me want to declutter or better yet not save all that stuff to begin with.

Not a minimalist, but the consequence of being poor and housing insecure for awhile is that I don’t have a lot of stuff, and don’t keep a lot of stuff. My partner saves everything though, so I guess between the two people of us we’re average?

I live a pretty ascetic lifestyle relative to my peers and income cohort, but I'm definitely not a minimalist. I don't throw things away until the last possible second, but I buy stuff as opportunity arises, which means that I always have a bit of a buffer of stuff. I guess I'm thinking mostly of clothes. I don't just have 3 or three outfits that I replace as necessary. I guess I have too many plates, considering I never touch the bottom two inches of the stack.

I guess too, if/when my income becomes enough that I am actually meeting charity goals that I feel are 'enough', I might actually change my decor to be actually nicer (from an average perspective). That said, people are *always* selling nice decor on the 2nd hand market, so it would more become a habit than anything else.

I dunno if I was doing it wrong, but e.g. trying to score a deal on a used couch proved incredibly tedious with people overvaluing or misrepresenting what they were selling, and logistically complicated without owning a truck. It ended up easier just eating the time/resources I'd spent looking for a used couch and ordering one from Costco.

I was more thinking about walls, but that's a good point. Like I implied, I don't mind having lower quality stuff, so just waiting for a good/easy opportunity would suit my personality type.
