Any suggestions on internet security software?

I don't think that's true overall. The only paid AV that I've heard as being worth spending money for is NOD32. The others are often just bloatware or a ripoff.

IDK, but I'm impressed that Kaspersky is a former KGB crypto guy.

Not necessarily, ie Norton. I've heard Kaspersky is decent though.

FWIW, from the last av-comparitives tests.

Grades ascending are: Tested, Standard, Advanced, Advanced+

On-demand comparative:
Avast, Advanced+
AVG, Advanced
Kaspersky, Advanced
NOD32, Advanced+
Norton, Advanced+
Microsoft, Advanced (Only one tested, along with F-Secure to have "very few" false positives)

Retrospective/Proactive test:
Avast, Advanced
AVG, Advanced
Kaspersky, Advanced+
NOD32, Advanced+ (very few false positives)
Norton, Advanced
Microsoft, Advanced+ (Again, very few false positives)

Maybe they've changed it really recently, but I've heard a lot about people using Norton and know people who got rid of it because it slowed down their computers and kept giving false positives. It doesn't have a very good reputation.

Question: when they talk about "clouds" do they mean Wi-Fi connections during scanning?
