Anyone else watching Mr. Robot?

A netflix show or what?

It is. It even has an anime feel. And surely not by chance ;)

Cinematography is very consistent and alienating with the big city scenery, super-tall buildings, and contrasts with downtrodden urban areas.

True, missed that.. Apparently the first episode aired in Sweden yesterday. It's been getting good reviews too...

Saw the first episode. It's good enough to follow the first season. Nice find!

I recently started watching and it's really quite good, but there a couple of things that concern me. The general weirdness of it makes me think of a few possible twists that are a bit too predictable.
I've only seent he first three episodes and I'm starting to convince myself that it's basically
Spoiler :
Fight Club

.

Uhu.. could be. I'd be a bit disappointed if it is. Whatever it is, I think the first season will be the only one worth seeing.

Seen all 10 episodes, really good stuff! Long wait to season 2, and i see no reason why season 2 should be bad

I'm watched thru Episode 6 so far after a guy I met recommended it.

The first episode I liked, then it got a little slow, then it picked up again.

I don't understand why it's so acclaimed, I mean its good but not THAT good. Maybe I'm spoiled by Breaking Bad or maybe I don't realize just how bad other TV is (I haven't owned one since 2003).

I don't know much about hacking but it seems more than a bit far-fetched, like

Spoiler :
Being able to break someone out of prison by using a zip-drive in a police car to hack the prison's cell-door locking system

At first the narrator's inner dialogue I found annoying but some of it is actually pretty thought provoking. How much of our lives are "run in the background" (paraphrased) vs conscious decisions.

Definitely some rip offs from Matrix & Fight Club (the conversation in the ferris whell was pretty much a total rip-off of the "red pill, blue pill" talk, at first I thought it was gonna be tounge in cheek).

Spoiler :
Also, I find the goal of eliminating all debt a bit uninspired & played out. Obviously corporations have suckered people into huge debts but by killing debt you're also punishing those who've lived within their means or spent many years/decades paying them off

I'll finish off the first season. So far I'll give 7 of 10.

Episode 7 and 8 were pretty bad.

My main problem is the characters don't seem to have much depth. And Eliott simply isn't likable.

Spoiler :
And wannabe-CFO dude killing CFO's wife just seems extremely dumb, so dumb that I suppose I'm curious to see how they resolve it

Btw, the pilot ep is on youtube :) (seems the network placed it there itself, for marketing reasons).

One thing i don't like about what i saw of the show up to now is

Spoiler :
the generic messed up/then acting unrealistically bad guys, aka the Sweden Yes couple

This was my review of the show from another thread:

I don't watch a ton of TV but one series grabbed my attention recently which was Mr. Robot. The pilot episode was phenomenal. It was well acted, well written, has a group of demented but interesting characters, and the computer hacking scenes were at least somewhat realistic instead of the shallow, slapdash way its done in other TV series.

Unfortunately the rest of the season devolved into "Fight Club - With Hackers!" and relying on shock factor to keep the audience's attention. I guess that was enough though to keep me interested as I watched every episode and I'm at least mildly anticipating season 2.

Finished the season now.

It was nice, but i feel a bit cheated, cause it was said that
Spoiler :
this was a Matrix-themed show. And it likely is not. A bit more like Fight-Club indeed. And i doubt they will go Matrix in Season 2.

Other than that i am mostly not liking the swedish couple, which has unrealistic plotlines and is all-around not adding anything to the show in my view...

Christian Slater is very good in this.

Mr Robot started very nice (cinematography is very anime-styled, and elegant), yet by the half season it got baned with irrational characters (scandinavian couple) which ultimately ruined the original impression for me.
Not sure how season 2 will be, but unless they have some hidden twist i cannot really see this getting a third season.

Hm, just checked season 2 trailer, and there is no swedish/cis couple... (but it could be a ploy).

Starts at the 13nth of this month :)

Yeah, it started strong but halfway into the first season it fell off a cliff. I don't think I'll watch the second.

I haven't watched it but it's on my backlog! Current season 2 is about to air on USA and s1 is on amazon video for me in the US. I'm sure a lot of the hacking is far fetched. Hacking is extremely difficult to do and they usually oversimplify it and do things that aren't that possible down to not possible at all. I mean remember a few months ago the FBI couldn't figure out how to hack a terrorist's personal iphone without the memory wiping itself.

didn't they pay a hacker $1.3 million to hack it for them :D
and now can tell anyone how its done as they did not buy the rights to the hack
