I would rather send the Legion back up to Castle Jayne, centrally located and on the River. If we move the Legion later, it will be difficult to switch guards without hiring Elvis, or building more Warriors. And perhaps Castle Jayne could build a Phalanx to escort the Dellham Settler to the Iron City Site.

Elysium Colossus!, Size 3 with 1 Warrior Guard and 1 entertainer, production 5, could build anything we want. Recommend building a Phalanx guard with IPRB $11 in 3 turns. Then perhaps build a Temple. Or build Temple first, but then we'd have only the one Warrior Guard, not recommended.

Many of the poll options interact. Vote wisely.

I'm quite happy to delay play for a day or two. It's much more important to wait and do it right than rush ahead tomorrow with only half a plan. When you're happy everyone has had a chance to have their say and we've got a plan of action, let me know and I'll play as soon as I can.

I think the legion should go to CJ at least until another unit is ready, then it can be rushed on to somewhere else. I'm a little conscious that it's undefended (and at risk of riot) and there is a chance that an AI may decide to pop in for a cup of tea! We can't just assume there will be opportunity for diplomacy at First Contact. I have known AI's to attack first and ask questions later!

I forgot to tick the box "Nemo you've missed the obvious" but can I comment anyway? ;)
Elysium = SSC why not build library if the legion stays and provides happiness... :D

Jayne, that's why sending the Legion back up, and spending $11 on the first Elysium Phalanx seems most practical to me. Then both cities will have guard with defence factor 2, quite soon.

Civ1, you're right, I have missed the obvious! But reasonably so, becuase I'm very focused on defense and happiness, picking up the pieces after this Colossus Rush!

Yes! So would you defend the colossus with haystacks, noble leader? (Oops, that's the military advisor's line.) I find myself differing in opinion. Given the importance of the Colossus, its defense is paramount so I'd rather guard it with the strongest unit. If the AI shows up there, a first strike with a legion is excellent defense. I wouldn't mind building the phalanx, also.

Also, I'm keen to work the gems in Elysium. If we don't, we're missing 2 gold and 2 beakers/turn.

It would take the legion 4 turns to reach CJ, which could have a warrior in one turn (the popular choice so far). The poll didn't offer the phalanx option, but CJ could have a phalanx before the legion would arrive. RB if we're nervous about it (I'm not).

If we really want some offensive punch up in Chryshe, why not build archers?

I voted for Elysium to keep the Legion and build a guard.
After that, I agree with civ1-addict that (as SSC) it should build
a Libarary.

MonkE, perhaps you're right. If we're going to station the Legion in Elysium, then Castle Jayne could IPRB $4 and complete it's Phalanx in 5 turns, with Elvis for 2-3 turns.

And that means Elysium could build its Temple right now. And that means, we could build a Phalanx and send the weak Warrior over to control happiness at F2 (Gap Plains), needed in about 15 turns or so. We've got to fit a Library in sometime, too. Maybe F2 can build the Phalanx for Elysium... Many options, eh? Would you rehome the Legion here? Maybe not just yet.

Btw, working the Gems, Elysium growth will be very slow, seems 38 turns. At 5 shields, thats 190 shields of stuff. But, we could have a Settler from TFalls build roads to change that. Mysticism is right around the corner, and so with a Temple larger is better.

I haven't voted here yet. Jayne has given us time for new good ideas. A guard for Iron City is still an issue... and I'm not sure we are ready to build Iron City anyway...

I voted to keep the Legion in Elysium for better protection of our SSC, and IPRB a Phalanx in Castle Jayne. I also voted to build a temple in Elysium. I said elsewhere I generally try to avoid temples, and I do, but this city is different. We want it to grow as big as possible as fast as possible, and it will be working on a wonder in the near future. Having the temple in place BEFORE we begin work on the wonder will save all sorts of problems during wonder construction. If we can squeeze in a library as well that would be great.

This poll is a bit tricky to interpret, but how does this sound?

Legion to escort Queen Jayne in to Elysium to guard our great statue (in addition to the one measly Warrior). Since we can rehome the Legion later, lets not rehome it now. Put workers on Gems. At 30% Tax, that will be 12 Trade, 4 tax + 8 Science. Then spend $11 (IPRB War=10) to complete a Phalanx in 3 turns. Then build a Temple. Upon completion (8 turns, far future) the Warrior could be released to control riot in F2, and we might then build a Library, or Wonder...

Castle Jayne spends $4 to speed Phalanx, so completes its own Phalanx in 5 turns, with Elvis for the last couple turns. Then start a Phalanx to send to Iron City, again IPRB $4 or $8. LN Settler will found F2. TFalls Settler will walk over here and build a Road for Castle Jayne serfs (badly needed), then Road for Elysium serfs in lieu of Gems.
