Apple vs PC

My laptop is an HP, I like the way macs look but they're really expensive. (I do have an I-pod though)

After purchasing Mac mini this summer, it is now evident to me that Windows and MacOS are 99% mirror images of each other. They have practically the same problems and even the same bugs.

The main difference is not conceptual or in quality, it is of market share: there's less software for MacOS and it is not that adequate sometimes...

Nevertheless, Windows is better and is number one among desktop and personal-use OSes. However bad Vista may be, Microsoft never dared to make something as bad as Apple's Lion, also it has language localizations far superior to Apple.

It is funny to see over nine language strings all telling you you've just got "blue screen" mac version in Lion. But when I choose my native language as the main one, I want the OS GUI to be in that language (without transliteration or such) and without grammatical or stylistic mistakes, and I want it to be intelligible in all parts of the OS.

I prefer MacOs as for now, though. Bored of Windows after years of using it. And it is easier with Mac to make it into distraction-free enviroment for things such as writing and reading.

P.S.: Mac mini has an adequate price to consider it an alternative to a normal desktop computer and not an overpriced premium toy (e.g. MacBook...).

That's not what a hackintosh is. A hackintosh is a Windows machine with the Mac OS X installed, against the wishes of the OS itself. Mac OS X does not install on Windows machines. It has to be hacked in. That is why it is a hackintosh. My high school has iMacs with XP installed. My school. Schools don't jailbreak iThings.

FWIW I believe you about Apple longevity, but I don't really care since it's electronics. They'll be obsolete by the time a cheaper laptop would break.
Oh really? My coworkers don't know what they're talking about. I don't know why you'd want that though... The strength of Apple products is not their software (in my opinion).
Aluminum unibody is nice, but it doesn't necessarily mean higher build quality.
Yeah it doesn't necessarily mean that, but it is. I've been to a Foxconn plant where they make them, they are of preposterous quality.

Having been to the a doesn't give you any particular insight into the build quality that I haven't gained by disassembling laptops.

I've seen a lot of various brands of laptops pass through tech support, and Macs and other high-end laptops are all similar in reliability; keyboards, optical drives and hard drives are the most common failed components. Motherboard/power supply issues are rare enough that I'm not convinced that they aren't mostly from people plugging them into poor power sources.

My current laptop is a Macbook Pro, because I like the unibody, and my job pays for it, but claiming that they're of particularly better quality than other high-end laptops is facetious.

Macbook Pro for a laptop. I've had it for four years or so now. Works perfectly and I've never had a virus or needed to format it. I've bought a new battery to it but nothing else. The battery lives is the weakest point. ..and the relative lack of software of course, but that's why you get a stationary PC.

Important stuff on laptop mac
Games on stationary pc

At least my mac seems to be of great quality. Not sure what brand of pc could compare to it.

I don't really know about comparison to other laptops. I'm saying from a machining standpoint, that the Macbook Pro is incredible. I don't know of any other thing like it. If that doesn't translate to higher reliability, that's too bad (although you said it yourself that it's usually the moving components, which make it much more likely that it's the user breaking it or the component being weak). Are many high end laptops aluminum unibody? I haven't seen any.

I was actually surprised when switching to a Apple laptop that I found performance to be the biggest weakness.

I'm using a mid-2010 Macbook Pro model, and performance is noticeable worse than my desktop from 2005, which was cheaper, five years previously.

I obviously could be using a higher-end model, but I guess I was just expecting too much from laptops...

Apple has the aluminum unibody supply supply chain locked down; it looks like Intel's ultrabook suppliers are being forced to go with carbon composites or fiberglass for that reason.

Typical Mac user buying a computer for looks. :p

I wanted to add something to the discussion MACvsPC but at this point everything meaningful has been said already.
I have occasion to use both, professionally and privately, and my verdict is completely in favour of the PC mostly due to their the performance-to-price ratio.
I don't find the Mac UI particularly easier or more efficient to use and I'm particularly annoyed by the lock-in of iStuff.

IPod's have mediocre sound quality... if you connect any reasonable headphones (i.e., not the white ear buds that come with it, and nothing that you can buy at Radioshack) to it, then it is annoying to deal with.
Completely agree with you here... when I first used an iPod I was really wondering how people could even think to buy one.
And don't let me started on those dreadful white ear buds that come with it, it simply let me loose any little respect I had for human beings.
If anybody has to buy an iPod or iPhone to listen music, at least they have to use decent headphones: those white pieces of plastic they let the people near you to listen at your music as much as you do.

Although, I use my Iphone for portable listening just because phone/mp3 player just makes so much sense. As soon as someone makes a smartphone with good output sound I'll get it.
Maybe you should try something like a Samsung Galaxy 2, the audio quality is extremely better than iPhone (both music and call).
In the past I used a few SonyEricsson walkman phones: their audio was exceptional.
In any case they same you from the curse of using iTune: i'd rather break a leg than use it.

What could they possibly be thinking to be using UNIX instead of a proprietary OS?

If you don't use half of your computer functionality and most of those new "features", then, yeah, you can say that. :)

My Macbook is Lion and is still fully functioning and I'm taking advantage of all the new features I can. I'm even typing this in full screen Safari. :)

Apple sucks. Apple products suck. iTunes really, really sucks. Steve Jobs (R.I.P.) although a genius and innovator was a douchey, egotistical individual and it shows in the stuff he created, and the actions his company performed. But besides that, what kind of morons design a glass-back phone? Because it looks pretty? C'mon.

Apple is just like any other giant, crappy corporation. All sales, all style, no soul.

Well, thousands of people (including me) have technical problems and bugs with Lion. So, either you are very lucky, or not completely sincere ;)

Actually, I'm very average. If you look at reviews of Lion on the App Store, the vast majority are with me.

Well, nobody goes to a forum to talk about how something is working well for them. They go there to get help and complain.
