Apple vs PC

 It's funny how wrong you are. ;)
Let's put it this way. It was the last version you could register while not being the proper owner and receive updates. Without that, it is essentially useless. And most pirated versions of Windows 7 have malware built in so they get what they deserve. ;)

Macs are overpriced, and the keyboard & mouse suck. I also greatly prefer Windows to Mac OS.

Wait, they still use that one-button mouse thing?? Geez, I figured those when out of style in the 90s..

Actually, my mouse has about 4 buttons, and with 10.7 even more. And its built into my Macbook.

If they are compared to cars, it seems to me like Macs are like Aston Martin or a similar brand of car and PCs like all other cars, including the bad, cheap ones.

Nah, I'd say PC's are Ford Tauruses, and Macs are the guy who takes his Ford Taurus, spends a couple hundred dollars extra, and puts an aluminum casing of a Ferrari over it. Sure, it looks sleek and fast like a Ferrari, but its still a Ford Taurus.

Yeah, they are both Fords, just one (Mac) had a better marketing scheme for a bit. :p

But the 'Im'a PC' campaign has really clobbered Mac here lately. Also that one where they had the families go into the store to compare Mac and PC prices against their value, and they always walked out with a PC was pretty tough as well.

I've often seen Macs more as status symbol kind of things where people with money can afford to buy something more expensive while still mediocre performance wise just so they can look down their noses as the unwashed masses of PC users. Ah well. Kind of like people who pay 300 bucks for a pair of Gucci jeans when a good 25 dollar pair of Levis would be the far better deal.

As a Ford Taurus owner, and a member of the Taurus Car Club of America, I just want to put out there that the Taurus is an awesome auto. kthxbai :)

I'm a Taurus SLS owner myself! Full leather interior baby.:goodjob:

Gonna echo some of the sentiments in this thread. Mac users are arty types who sit in Starbucks sipping organic fair trade coffee whilst writing a screenplay I HATE YOU

i can understand mac users in that things seem to be more simple and practical with the mac. but i keep using a pc, because i am used to it, have all the software i need and don't have to spend that much money!!

When getting my last computer, I looked at Mac. But the performance for the price wasn't there. I don't really have anything against them. But I don't feel they are all that great bang for the buck. If I wanted a laptop, that might be different.

The reason I chose it is because I drive a Ford Taurus. It's a really nice car :goodjob:

As someone who has worked with the manufacturers of Apple's products, I can vouch for the fact that they have the best build quality you can get in a laptop. The aluminum cases are great for heat dissipation and have tons of machined features on their that look like they cost a TON, but Apple negotiated amazing deals with Foxconn that no one else can get. Honestly, I'm surprised all Mac laptops don't cost 30% more. They are unmatched in terms of longevity and build quality.

The problem is that the entry price points are quite high, and don't get you better performance. And you also have to deal with Apple software. Hackintoshes (Macs with Windows on them) I've heard are great when you buy used Apple laptops, which, for me, is the only way to go.

I'm not enough of a computer guy to venture into the personal computer battle between macs and PCS...but I *love* my ipod, and will prob not buy another brand's mp3 player.

IPod's have mediocre sound quality... if you connect any reasonable headphones (i.e., not the white ear buds that come with it, and nothing that you can buy at Radioshack) to it, then it is annoying to deal with. Creative Zen makes fairly aesthetically pleasing and durable MP3 players with far superior output sound quality. Although, I use my Iphone for portable listening just because phone/mp3 player just makes so much sense. As soon as someone makes a smartphone with good output sound I'll get it.

Aluminum unibody is nice, but it doesn't necessarily mean higher build quality.

The models I have the most personal experience with, Macbooks and Thinkpads, are comparable in overall build quality.

Surprised this wasn't posted yet:

Would not buy a mac for a computer. Other apple stuff is better though... I do love my ipod touch. And though I don't own an iPhone, I think it's pretty clear they've done wonders in driving the smartphone market forward.

That's not what a hackintosh is. A hackintosh is a Windows machine with the Mac OS X installed, against the wishes of the OS itself. Mac OS X does not install on Windows machines. It has to be hacked in. That is why it is a hackintosh. My high school has iMacs with XP installed. My school. Schools don't jailbreak iThings.

FWIW I believe you about Apple longevity, but I don't really care since it's electronics. They'll be obsolete by the time a cheaper laptop would break.
