Are "Civ" players also "Pirates!" players?

Are you interested in Sid Meier's Pirates!, Firaxis's next release?

Mr. JEFF

I ORDER YOU TO BRING BACK PIRATES!

it wasted many ours of my juicy youth - and i was the most feared pirate around ;) - with me the whole caribbean was dutch (maybe you find a way to bring the germans in :p)

seriously, Pirates! is AND was one of the best games since im playing games (and that is since 1988 or so)

i want pirates back ! ok? hell i love it

ill stop here now because i just notice that i get excited.....

While I've never tried Pirates! before, I will give it serious consideration when looking for my next game purchase (although, I doubt anything could top my C3C addiction). If it is anything like Port Royale, I'll probably pick it up.

When are you comming out with SimGolf 2. The first one was great fun.

its not anything like port royale, port royale is something like pirates!.

pirates! is the famous original - nothing can beat it. port royale is also a nice game which i played for ages, but not half as great as Pirates!

and honestly i think you might be as addicted as to c3c.

:D

Pirates share many common elements that Civ fans like - longterm strategy in politics, diplomacy, trade together with the bloodlust and exploration and even a hint of role playing?

I might get it. I'd be REALLY excited if it were advertised as multiplayer, but since I haven't really seen that, what's the point? I mean, come on here! Not only is it 2004 but this is the perfect multiplayer game!

Ya, I'd pay a few quid a month for a multiplayer version...but what about "stickyness", you'd have to sleep around with all the governors wives' to get any long term satisfaction ;)

Actually, Pirates was among my first games along with King's Bounty, Eye of the Beholder and Civ1. In was what... 16 years ago. Oh, no.... As I remeber it was exceptionally interesting and many hours-weeks-months were wasted trying to conquer the Carribean. I would buy it, no doubt. And have fun.

you recall quite right.

eye of the beholder was nice too btw ;-)

I have never played it, but I loved Uncharted Waters 2: New Horizons for SNES, which was a game with similar concept.

Before Civ, Pirates! was my absolute favorite. I still play it from time to time with a C64-emulation and am looking forward to the new version. (BTW, i always prefered the C64-version over the PC-version, gameplay, especially fencing, was better i think.)

I have heard about it, but never played it, or seen it played. I have heard rave reviews from friends, so I might as well buy it when it somes out. Heck, gotta fill up my free time (or lack thereof) somehow, eh?

Wow! I didn't know it was coming back. I've been trying to find a way to get the old game, but now I'll wait for this one!

Please, develop the sword fighting sequence a bit and keep a good selection of swords to choose from, with their inherent differences! That was one of my favourite parts of the game, really... Along with the sailing, sea battles and looking for the good looking wife (which wasn't really the one that the game's designer had designed as the 'best' wife).

Wolfwood is right, good looking wifes are of

MAJOR IMPORTANCE!

And btw, I agree, my favorite was rarely one of those deemed the best looking by the designers.

The maidens in Pirates! Gold did not look to exciting either!

IDEA: Make the brides easy to mod!

I am sure there are many here that want to put in their favorite celebrity / beauty / girlfriend... :P

that could cause major problems in my household ;-)

Ah, I went and read the press release... Lots of hype about 3D graphics. Still, I hope it will be programmed to run also on P4, 2.x GHz laptops...

I wouldn't mind beautiful 3D imagery of a ship sailing in vast seas, the possibility of hiding your treasure on some corner of some remote island (with a risk, of course) and other nice stuff, but I'd not like to see it turned into one of these modern 3D adventure games that require the latest computer to run...

And YES! Make the ladies configurable! Need lots of fiery brunettes, my wife included! :p

I've never played Pirates! and never even really heard of it till around Conquests (IIRC there was a short period of speculation about Civ IV and other possible Firaxis projects in the future, where a Pirates! sequal was mentioned).

However, I have heard alot of good reports from the "classic" gamers which actually got a chance to play Civ I and such came out. I also like alot of Sid Meier's games so, I'd have to say I would try it. However, I'd probobly want to try my hand at a demo or someone else's copy before buying one for myself.

Celebrity i can understand but y on earth would anyone wanna put their missus in the game? One of the main reasons im still playing puter games is to get away from the witch the last i would wanna do is bump into her!!

I've never played it, but I would be willing to give it a try. However, in general, my gaming time IS reserved for the ultimate game on earth, Civilization III!

I owned both the original Pirates! and Pirates! Gold. The original Pirates! (on my C64) was THE BEST game of all time. I know that might be a bit out of line here on a Civ dedicated forum but what the heck - it is just my opinion.

Having played the original and the Gold versions (with strong memories of both) I do have one suggestion. Please be sure that this latest version of Pirates! keeps the joystick driven interface of the original. The Gold version had a mouse driven interface which made the sword fighting elements of the game unrealistic and impossible to master.

I too had downloaded a C64 emulator version of the game in order to relive past glories. I could not, unfortunately, get past the lousy start I would always get due to not being able to answer the opening questions about the treasure fleet or silver train. My original copies of the software and the manual have long since passed on. I fully understand that this was a copy protection feature but is it still valid or has such 'ancient' code long since passed into public domain? If it is legal to do so please let me know if this information from the manual is available. I know where to obtain the game itself just not these valuable answers from the manual. If this is an illegal request ignore it and I will eagerly await the latest version of Pirates! before once again visiting The Spainish Main.

Sorry - doubled up the last post somehow. Moderator you can delete this post if you wish.
