Like it is with every sort of humor, it's all about timing.
Why is it that if you for example fart in bed, you always have to lift the cover to smell the fart? It is that like you would have some kind of irrational expection for it to actually smell good?
One's farts do smell good.

They're funny during the right circumstances.
For example, a kid fell asleep during a discussion in first period. The teacher kinda ended his argument, and looked at us expectantly. There was an awkward silence for about a minute, and suddenly the sleeping kid farts.
I mean, it was hilarious. Total silence, then one of those squeaky high-pitched-to-low farts. Not smelly or anything, just loud. Kid wakes up (like a dog farting itself awake) and looks around, then realizes what happened and is beet red.

Dogs farting themselves awake are definitely among the funniest farts.
Once my dog was leaning over to lick her but and then farted. It surprised her so much that she went and hid in the closet.
