Ares de Borg's Terrain Pack II: Preview Thread

I know, sorry. I have been away for two days.
There's a new desert texture I'm working on - when it's finished, I'll post new pictures. :)

I missed this thread before, but it's astonishing. I can't see all of the screenshots in the opening post, for some reason, but the bits I can see are absolutely amazing. I loved Sn00py's terrain but this looks to me to take it to another level. The sea alone is extraordinary (and I hate the continental shelf look, too).

I don't know why William is convinced that CivIII Plains are meant to represent wheat fields. If that were the case, they'd produce more food than Grasslands, not less. And you wouldn't find them all over the place before anyone's worked the land, either. They're meant to represent open land that is less well watered or fertile than Grasslands. Wheat fields would be represented by Irrigation, which is why there are some terrain packs that replace the Irrigation graphic with little fields (and which look splendid, I think).

[EDIT] Now that I can see the opening screenshots, for some reason, I see that Ares has included the "field" irrigation in this pack. Good work!

A small preview... someone wanted to know how a submerged submarine looks like in the new water.

*coughcoughhackhack* That looks so beautiful you made me hack up my coke! *coughcoughhackhack*

Great job! :goodjob:

 wow I love it, the sub looks great, and the tundra is not solid white it's broke up a little. Sweet, I'm

That looks fantastic

A suggestion:
Since it looks a bit weird to have green hills on tundra (I know, this cannot be avoided in random-map epic games), can you do an Landmark Hills -terrain set, with snowy hills?

on the other hand, green hills on deserts/plains also look a bit silly :)

Ahhh, Yes. That looks much better Ares, Thank you!

Still working at it. At the moment I'm doing some tests about how the coastline could look like. This is a very early alpha-stage screenshot.

:goodjob: I like it. The coastal land looks good but the water around the land is a little too white\bright though....

Huh? What? no! He had a green line in his coast before, remember, and everyonw whined about it. I think thoes coast look GREAT!

hmmm I like that coastal shot. still, satalite imagery differs from place to place. I think the right comprimise is what look can best be converted to the 'simulated satatalite' feel his work best seems to emulate

Wow, I like the alpha shot.

I think it looks excellent. The white water looks very nice. Definitely don't put any green in there!

I'm really impressed at how much care and work you're putting into this. It looks to me like this is going to be simply the best terrain mod available once it's done, and I will certainly be using it.
