Arioch's Analyst Thread

Here's a surprise: new medieval-era civilian units. Seen in a 1430 AD screenshot.

Some sort of crane, and a band of entertainers.
Ah, maybe a Great Engineer and a Great Artist.

And a modern-era Great General.

Silly Firaxis.. Generals don't drive their own jeeps! :D
That's... a new twist. I'm genuinely interested in what those units are/do. It is nice to see a wider range of non-combat units though.

Just one note; I don't think it's correct on your civilization page when you say several civilizations are exclusive to vendor-specific preorders. It's been said that the DLC pack that is included when you buy the game from Direct2Drive will be available for anyone to purchase; you just won't get it for free if you buy somewhere else. So all of the civilizations will be available even if you buy after release. None of them are exclusive to a particular vendor, and it has nothing to do with preorders.

Babylon is exclusive to the digital vendor versions. I have not seen it confirmed anywhere that it will be made available to anyone else.

I guess you could consider that a digital exclusive from what we've seen so far, but either way it has nothing to do with preorders. Also, that's one civilization; your site says "several". The statement just seems to suggest that you might have to preorder from a specific vendor like Direct2Drive in order to get a particular civilization, which is not quite right.

Still, the term "Several" is wholly incorrect in it's context... since Babylon is the only one civ at the moment that is exclusive to a vendor. Not that I care personally, but reading it now, the statement is wrong.

Also, on that topic... I'd love to get some info on Babylon, damnit... and midly associated... I hope a feature comes out detailing all of the Civ's special abilities, and others detailing the UUs and UBs.. What they do, etc.

No, it's not, like Arioch already said.
Both Steam and Direct2Drive sell the Deluxe Edition with Babylon.

What? Bablyon is still the only civ that is exclusive. Arioch's page says that "Several of the civilizations are exclusive to vendor-specific preorders". Which is false on two levels.
1. Only Bablyon is exclusive. The other two civs from D2D will be available to everyone as DLC when it comes out (D2D just gives it for free).
2. It has nothing to do with preorders, just the deluxe edition.

How does just Babylon consist of "several of the civilizations"? The statement is incorrect unless there is a case where at least one other civilization are "exclusive to vendor-specific preorders and are not available in the standard or collector's edition of the game"

Several means more than one.

I am really getting excited about these city states. It looks like the diplomacy involved can trigger a world war =o I don't even like war all that much, I'm just impressed how much more detailed the diplomacy must be to be able to set this up.

GO STOCKHOLM! (I wonder why we swedes are considerd irrational... :)) The icons for the city state declare war is different depending on what city state, blue vs green, gray vs green and so on

In one of the french screenshots you can see a fort in the lower right corner inside the great wall.

new for me:

German video shows that the number in the black slot and beside the shield icon above the city's name bar is
the "City Combat Strength" (and not a defense value!)

You can see at 01:45 that Frankfurt has str 6, and then an archer goes into it and it becomes str 7...

Arioch, if you can spare some time, can you divide the Buildings section like you did for units ?

Regular buildings
Specialist buildings
National wonders & Projects
World wonders

Here is a template I quickly made :

other "news" from the german site:

Das Terraforming aus Civ 2 fehlt immer noch

Arbeitsboote errichten Fischernetze auf See

Das Flugzeug-System entspricht dem von Civ 3: Flieger bewegen sich nicht frei, sondern starten von Städten oder Trägern

no terraforming, like we had in civ 2

working boats needed for sea ressources

flight units work like in civ 3; operate from cities/caariers

wait are you saying there was a pop up saying that the official name for the cities defense value has changed to city combat strength or did you just make that up because for some reason you think that defense can't be increased only strength.
