Arioch's Analyst Thread

Noticed an inconsistency: The Cossack is presumed to replace cavalry. However, cavalry is listed in the Renaissance section, but Cossack is in the medieval section.
Thanks for pointing that out. The Cossack is definitely a Renaissance unit. (It was actually listed in both the Medieval and Renaissance pages.)

On the subject of losing capitals, 2K Greg had this to say on the 2K forums (emphasis mine):

Exactly. Capturing an enemy capital just prevents that civ from winning a domination victory. Diplomatic, cultural, time (highest score by 2050 AD) and scientific (spaceship to Alpha Centauri) victories can still be won by the civ which lost its original capital.
This is correct. When your capitol is conquered, a different city is designated your new capitol. But your original capitol is still the one required for domination victory. You can definitely take it back. :)

Having your capitol taken does not eliminate you from the game.
Greg then apologizes for misspelling "capital." :D

I wonder if you can reinstate your capital city when you liberate the origional capital. I don't want my capital to be stuck in York forever after London was lost for a few turns.

One question answered, next question incoming! No wonder Greg doesn't believe he could ever satisfy us with just one more piece of info ;)

It's an excellent question, by the way!

I would say: Since the replacement capital cannot fulfill every function, London will be the capital again, it's the only "real" capital after all. This could lead to some weird situations when the original capital is in very bad shape after a war, though.

Some details from the recent screenshot of Sidon's bombardment:

- Artillery has 2 movement and 16 strength.
- If your civ is very  unhappy, it gives a -33% combat penalty.

Well, I guess that settles THAT!!! Makes sense! I assume with his hint there that if you take your capital back, then you are again eligible for Domination victory?!? I guess we'll see...

Wow... more info... on a Sunday! Now, we just need MORE info!!!

:D

You don't need any more info. I don't need any more info. No one does.

Only the demo will do now... And even that will only stave off the craving for a couple of weeks till the release day. :shifty:

And of course the one thing that we all want is the thing they wont tell the date of....typical.

Social policies are pretty powerful.

It looks like Honor will be a must for anyone pursuing domination, and Piety will be a must for a cultural victory.

I would hope this would be automatic... ie Capital movement is uncontrolled/scripted... ie if current Capital is taken, largest city becomes the capital. If "Original Capital" city is liberated, then it becomes the capital.

For me, I do NEED the info!!! Knowledge is POWER!!! ...and I am hungry for it!

Seriously, though, with a game like this, what is the problem with giving information? It's not like it really spoils anything! The more info available to begin with means less time learning the intricacies of the game. I could use the wait time to plan my method of attack instead of wondering "what will happen if this happens?" or "what is that going to be like?"

Anyway...

The Apolyton blog teaches us that Piety is the only Classical Era Social Policy Tree. These screenshots (#1 and #2) teach us that Commerce and Patronage are pre-Renaissasnce and thus they must both be unlocked by the Mediaeval Era.

There's still a little bit of joy of discovery, even if that joy was with the manual. Sure they could tell you now, but then you'd have to wait to try it out and that's no fun.

I feel your pain brother, and more info will keep trickling out. In the meantime lie down in a dark room with a cool towel on your head. :)

But I've reached the point where I need to get my grubby hands on it to see what I think about it. We know a lot about it. Thanks to everyone that keeps mining the info - I'm as interested in it as anyone, but now it's like the difference between looking a pics of a girl on the interwebs and actually *knowing* her.

I wanna *feel* it for myself now.

Happiness required for a golden age! that makes sense - and I'm happy (no pun intended) to learn of it!

Remind me, you can only adopt ONE policy at a time? Or you can have multiple, but some are mutually exclusive?
