Ask a Hindu/Ask an Indian

Because there's no ask a christian thread.
Yes there is. It's right here, and I've bumped it once before when lots of questions to Christians were appearing in another thread, but it kept on being ignored.

I guess it's time to promote the ask a pagan and ask a christian threads!!

How are the IT standards in India?

When Indian scholars come to Singapore for exchange or studies, they generally go into the fields of Information Technology. Is that emphasize in your school system?

What do you think of Apu?

What do you think of Apu?

Aargh. When I'm in school, kids are always like, 'Hey, how's the elephant god?' or use stereotypical names like 'Apu' or 'Ahmed'. Granted, its a minority, but a vocal one at that. So yes, he's amusing, but the effect he's having on the view of Indians in general is pretty frustrating. Not to say he should be cut out, or censored, that's going to far; if there was some way to cut down on his effect, it would be (IMO) welcome.

What do you think about contracting "Hindu Indian" to "Hindian"? Is that snappy for you?

That makes me feel like a Hindi speaker, or I'm talking to someone with a lisp. I don't think it flies. Plus, aren't the overwhelming majority of Hindus Indian? Thus, when you say Hindu, its my belief you imply Indian...

How come you Indians aren't as crazy about your studies as the Chinese or Japanese?

Or maybe I just met the odd Indian?

So I don't really tend to listen to Indian music but I passed by this music store with Tunak Tunak Tun by Dahler Mendhi playing, I asked the clerk for the song's name. What do you think of it?

I don't think much of it.

Punjabi music has a lot of influence on Bollywood and Indian taste in general. One of the more recent and popular songs, for instance has been Nagada Nagada from Jab We Met.

Not really, no. But a lot of people tend to go into that field because of the opportunities there. So you end up with a lot of people doing that, I guess.

Are "that's what she said!" jokes popular in India? Or have you just spent too much time on largely American message boards?

The latter.

What do you think about contracting "Hindu Indian" to "Hindian"? Is that snappy for you?

Well, that makes it sound as if my mother tongue is Hindi, which isn't, so it doesn't work.

What do you think of Apu?

The one from the Simpsons? I don't think of him.

Well, you have all types. But most who migrate tend to be cool with both studies and everything else. You usually don't find academic obsessives as a majority in the Indian crowd.

Guess we're the type to work hard, party hard.

I've noticed that too. When I started high school I thought that all the other Indian kids would be study maniacs, but I have yet to find one. Other Asians tend to get more obsessed by academics than Indians.

I don't think he has finished the matrix yet, but he might be able to provide a complete excel spreadsheet describing the pre-programmed response we can expect with certainty from a woman given a particular action by a man, soon.

He's like Hawkings searching for a unifying equation :)
