It's like the babe thread, except for cool astronomy pictures.

So let's see some stars planets nebulae and galaxies!

Starting off with one of my Personal favorites

Ida and it's moonlet Dactyl

I'm sorry that astronomical sights (one of God's finest creations IMO) don't get as much attention as babes ;). It's understandable. I'll post some tomorrow, if I can.

Miranda, one of the moons of Uranus. A weird jumble of rock, that scientists believe to be resultant of multiple catastrophic collosions that thrust parts of the core onto the surface. A very strange looking world.

@Perfection: Asteroids can have moons? :ack: I never knew that!

That'd have to be one big asteroid...

EDIT: I also think this thread should have been named "Heavenly Body Thread"

Actually that's just one small moon, and so far we have discovered 3 asteroid-moon systems (4 if you count pluto-cheron)

Trancending the milky way, we shall see two colliding galaxies, wow!

Fabulous artist's representation of one of the oldest planets in the Universe...

Star stirring a quiet cloud of dust as it turns into a supernova... What a way to go !

Photographs by our wonderful space stud Hubble:

The Pleiades... I just love that picture...

Does anyone here have a telescope... I am an avid amature astonomer (albeit broke), but I have a 4.5" Reflector (Meade) and it works well for me... I'd like to get a 16" Dobsonian...

I wouldn't want to get too close to one of theese things... A black hole (artist conception)

Here is God showing what he thinks of us.
