ATEN - Game Thread

It's about 40 minutes until lock time, so I'm issuing a softlock for all sets of orders in. New orders are still welcome.

Krzowwh, Bair and Ailedhoo to be forcibly retired if they don't respond to my inquiry by then.

Tonga, Kwena, and Herero are all offered free trade, defensive pacts, and are given a standing offer of union membership.

Amirmuaz hospitalized

Lord Protector Diya Amirmuaz of Egypt, co-leader of the United Arab Republic, was hospitalized early this morning at Bikur Cholim in Jerusalem, government sources report. While the cause has not been officially released, there is speculation that Amirmuaz may have suffered a heart attack and will undergo surgery. In accordance with state protocol, all executive power will reside with President al-Assad until Amirmuaz recovers.

Spoiler :
Try as I might, this game demands far too much time than I can currently spare. I may return at the end of the month; otherwise all responsibility for Egypt passes to Nedim. Tani has my orders so there shouldn't be any cock-ups.

:bump:

I'm still alive, don't worry, just been busy between a lot of things. :p

Only Christos and Celtic's orders remain, so don't worry, update will be soon. My apologies for the delay.

No worries. I always trust you to finish things that you start.

Reporting in that I've processed all player orders.

Update either late tonight or early tomorrow; now I just need to quickly do NPC orders where they were given and all the update stuff. Now that it's mostly the copy/paste stuff it'll be easy. :p

I've misplaced the Zulu War, but it ended with a smashing Zulu victory.

==Chinese War (formerly the War of the Two Dynasties)==

In the former Jiang territory, the Korean and Yi forces manage to take back a great deal of the country, but it will require a constant amount of troops be sent to the territory every turn so as to ensure the rebels do not regain ground.

In a surprise move, the Burmese have joined the PPP, allowing other members of the alliance through their territory. India’s military is now in the line of fire.

Total Coalition Forces Committed:
-38 Infantry (18 Korean, 2 Yi, 4 Japanese, 7 Vishkanyan)
-24 Armor (14 Korean, 2 Japanese, 7 Vishkanyan)
-24 Artillery (10 Korean, 1 Yi, 3 Japanese, 7 Viskanyan)

Total Indian Forces Committed
-6 Armor
-6 Artillery
-10 Conscript Fighters

Most trained Indian forces have been sent abroad, but a small professional force remains behind, backed by conscripts as the size of the enemy army is such it could conquer all of India.

The defending Indians have little, but they concentrate their fire on the Korean tank divisions to try and secure at least some breathing room. The result of the artillery exchange is the destruction of almost the entire Indian Army, with what few survivors there are immediately retreating.

Korean forces occupy 10 provinces; only the terrain is able to limit their ability to advance after they’ve nearly destroyed the Indian army. Nonetheless, they seize over ¼ of India’s economic capacity.

Losses:

-60000 Indian soldiers (-3 Tanks, -3 Infantry)
-3000 Korean soldiers (-2 Tanks)
-700000 Indian civilians

Battle of the Straits of Malacca

Total Coalition Forces Committed:
-16 Battleships (11 Korean, 4 Vishkanyan)
-8 Submarines (6 Korean, 1 Yi, 1 Vishkanyan)
-8 Destroyers (4 Korean, 1 Japanese, 3 Vishkanyan)
-12 Bombers (10 Korean, 2 Vishkanyan)
-46 Fighters (24 Korean, 10 Yi, 2 Japanese, 7 Vishkanyan)

Total Indian Forces Committed:
-14 Battleships
-2 Submarines
-4 destroyers
-12 Carriers (with 30 Bombers, 8 Fighters, 18 Infantry, 2 Armor and 2 Artillery)

En route to Taiwan, the Indian fleet is confronted by the Korean fleet and its allies.

14 battleships, 2 submarines, 4 destroyers directly participate, while 12 carriers (carrying 30 bombers, 8 fighters, 18 infantry, 2 armors and 2 artillery) stay back and offer support from a distance.

The air wings engage each other first, resulting in Coalition air superiority and the loss of 1 Korean fighter and 6 Indian. The fleets proceed to engage each other, the Coalition having bomber support.

The resulting bombardment destroys 3 Korean battleships and 6 Indian battleships. 1 Korean Battleship, 3 Indian battleships and 1 Indian Submarine are destroyed in the ensuing battle; the Indian navy once more retreats.

Total losses:

-1500 Koreans (1 Fighter; 4 Battleships)
-6000 Indians (6 Fighters; 9 Battleships, 1 Submarine)

---Cumulative Losses since 1950---
India (9 Battleships; 6 Fighters; 1 Submarine; 2 Destroyers, 3 Tanks, 3 Infantry; 67600 troops)
Korea (4 Battleships; 1 Fighter; 1 Submarine; 1 Bomber; 2 Infantry; 10300 troops)
Jiang (1 Armor, 1 Infantry; 7000 troops)
-54,000 Jiang Civilians
-700,000 Indian civilians

Alright. I cut some stuff out of this update so as to speed this one up. Apologies for the delay! I will be doing some stuff before the next update to catch up - 1 new corporation (shares won't be available until next update), civilian and military inventions, WMD rolls, new resources, and RP bonuses.

Some changes.

Carriers no longer have their own bombardment numbers; any planes you have them carry offer those. Carriers now carry 10 units instead of 5.

48 hours after the update, I do espionage. Ergo, send your espionage ACTIONS (not your spending; spending should be in the regular orders PM with all other spending) as a separate PM within 48 hours of the update for them to count. I will then calculate the espionage and 48 hours after that, standard lock ensues. This allows players to change orders in light of new information and also keeps the time between updates more interesting, while slightly reducing my total workload come lock. So, espionage due in 48 hours, orders due in 96 hours.

Finally, occupation rules have needed codification with increasing amounts of war. You’ll notice the “Occupation Zones” tab in the rules. It basically details the economy of occupied zones and how much of them the insurgency has control over. Every turn, whoever is numerically superior in a territory gains more territory. To keep insurgents from gaining land, you must outnumber them long enough to completely eliminate their grip on land, and once that’s done, you need to keep as many troops as they have present to keep them from becoming an issue. Only Tanks and Infantry can combat an insurgency, as the other units are only good at open combat; as insurgents hold the initiative in a war, any artillery they have count towards their total forces. Simply specify how many forces you wish to occupy the war zone, and they will stay there until you relocate them; they are tracked in the “Occupation Forces” columns.

This is a simplistic insurgency system but simplicity is a must to keep such a complex game from making me go insane.

The Zulu have conquered the Cape and may do as they wish with the territory. As the government has fled to parts unknown (presumably Germany due to an influx of Cape wealth there), the Zulu’s plan for the Cape’s future is of much interest. (Double A, your proposal to the Cape for peace will not count as a summit, given that you whooped their asses)

The Burmese have allowed PPP forces through their land, thus allowing a seizure of much of India’s territory and production by the Korean-led coalition. With the Indian defeat on the sea, analysts speculate if the Indian Republic will concede defeat or continue the fight.

Meanwhile, financial difficulties have caused Benelux and Olmoliqq to sell off their stake in their major companies, as well as some of their smaller holdings.

From India
To Korea:

We ask for Peace, on the term that all lands that your coalition occupies in India are returned to us. Remember that should you not accept, we are willing to fight to the last man, and even if you win, how do you plan to deal with the occupation of almost 400 million Indians?

Tani, I think you've forgotten to hide some stuff in the stats. It's real interesting seeing who's got what WMD. :p

EDIT: So me and some people on chat were talking about nukes in chat and we noticed that it would be more cost effective to buy five bombers than one nuke. So I'm curious, is there something extra special about nukes that justifies spending an extra $50 to buy them?

The Coalition of Eastern Kings rejects these demands. A return to the "status quo ante bellum", to borrow a Latin phrase, is an unacceptable choice, considering the Republic of India's aggressive stance. The Coalition of Eastern Kings instead presents these demands.

The Treaty of Yangon

Article 1: The Republic of India will accept defeat by the Coalition of Eastern Kings. In addition, the Republic of India will accept responsibility for the extension of the War of Two Dynasties.

Article 2: The Republic of India shall recognize the Yi monarch as sovereign over all of China.
-Clause A: The boundaries of China shall be defined as all current territories of the Yi Dynasty and the Republic of China, and all former territories of the Jiang Dynasty.
-Clause B: The Republic of India shall recognize Mao Tse Tung and the Qinghai Communes as a terrorist organization, and shall refrain from further aiding this or similar organizations.
-Clause C: The Republic of India shall refrain from providing any aid or signing any agreements with the Republic of China, including alliances and trade pacts. In addition, the Republic of India shall refrain from taking part in any war between the Greater Korean Empire and the Republic of China.

Article 3: The Republic of India shall cede the four Rakhine territories between the Kingdom of Burma and the Bay of Bengal to the Kingdom of Burma. (Map attached below)

Article 4: All parties involved will agree to refrain from engaging in armed conflict against the other treaty signatures for a duration of five turns.

Territories highlighted red are to be returned to Indian control.
Territories highlighted yellow are to be ceded to the the Kingdom of Burma.

Ah, I suppose I was bound to slip up in hiding those WMD eventually. Arsenals hidden again but now everyone knows who's got what. The affected powers have been given 1 infra each in compensation.

As for nukes versus bombers - bombers are only better in tactical terms. A nuke not only tips the scales of battle, but can absolutely devastate enemy cities and population. Especially as the nuke tier increases; the first devices are crude, as in real life, but later ones will be far more powerful and cost-effective.

Nukes also generate fallout.
