Automerging of posts?

Well that's as simplifying as an answer could be. Sure, it is his place, so if he keeps it on, it will stay. The feature beiing ridiculous is a more than valid opinion - that seems to be shared by more and more posters.

Of course. But it is ok to clear up MY point of view isn't it?
IMNSHO, it is ridculous, and IMNSHO, it is nonsense, and IMNSHO, it does damage the still very high quality of this forum.
In OT discussions, it can be, IMHO, very important to seperate posts. I simply feel my opinions are altered, before shown to others. I've already admitted I am relatively over-sensitive for that, but it really does, in a way, frigthen me.
Remember, it's TF's place - his place, his rules.
Without the comments of posters on changes on forum rules/style/moderating etc. TF has nothing to measure the quality of this brilliant forum.
I only post my comments here (side feedback) very rarely these days, but I do feel I should mention it when I really disliek a change. The somewhat over-sensitve way of expressing myself earlier in this thread, does not reflect a need to be more vocal 'just cause', but it merely reflects my very strong annoyance with this new feature.

There's an example in OT in the Muslim/Pork thread.

Well, if you want to persuade TF to chg it, I'd suggest to you to put your post in a less combative form.

The moment I read your post, I only feel the need to reply in form. It doesn't even have anything to do with me being a mod or not.

And I'm normally a rather easy-going person. Had your post been more congenial, my response would have wildly different. Heck, even I find this feature a little irritating at time...

Combative?
The eye of the beholder perhaps? nay
Or me? aye

It's not exactly the first time my written words are interpreted wrongly. If you would have actually heared me saying it, you wouldn't have even thought about 'combative'.

But that, is indeed my problem/fault!

So TF: please imagine the words spoken out with cynism ;) !

This is the most annoying feature :)
Any chance of canceling this feature only for NES area? cause people that open a NES... well go look at Skilord Absolution nes you will get the idea of what we need to do to cut between posts...

well I suppose you could always post a 15000 character message to reserve a few posts, then edit out the 15000 characters and put you want in.
Or does it detect edits too and still merge them?

Well I can't speak for a whole forum, but if you decide to remove it from some forums, I guess most of the SG players would be glad too.

It will only merge posts if the last posted post is posted within an hour by the poster. If it's newer than one hour, posts will be merged and the thread will be bumped.

How can the posts be merged if it's after an hour if they will only be merged if it's before an hour?

I love this, BTW! It helps a lot with multiple quotes.

In the SG forum, when the screenshot is too big, we normally post it in a separate post other than the report itself, so that the report text won't go too wide and people can read it without scrolling.

But with this automerge I think we can no longer do that.

Is there a solution for that? (no, making the screenshot narrower isn't a solution) Can we not automerge if the post has an attachment?

I know a few in the demogame who are getting paranoid because of it.... (Even the C&C and Strategy Articles forum users sometimes use more than 1 post to seperate pieces of info).

Is there anyway you can turn the feature off in a particular forum? If they feel like they absolutley need the feature disabled...

This is no joke, we can't open new NES's cause of this (I won't curse) Rule!!!

Maybe I should try to see it from another point of view.

What are the possible benefits of this annoying feature?

It would seem to me that this measure was taken to reduce spamming and reduce post counts. However, if post counts aren't really supposed to matter, than should it matter if someone double or triple posts? Sure some people do so with really little reason, but it doesn't affect the forum that much. And spammers spam no matter what you do...

I actually think this is good for Off-topic, but not so good with other sections of CFC.

Apparently, all post counts were knocked down a while ago. Some people didn't like this and requested their old figure.

Why would anyone want to look like a spammer? I know I post too much but I'm not proud of it. It's embarassing

So to iterate my view of this post-merging, I like it. 2 or 3, maybe even 4 of my replies appear in one tidy package and disguise the true level of my activity. Plus, I edit posts a lot because... well, I just do... and this helps cut that down too

does any big mod even look?
WE CAN'T OPEN NEW NES'S CAUSE OF YOUR RULE. Now fix it :p

If you want a mods immediate attention I would PM TF...but he does have a life and remember, he isn't on the forums twenty-four seven. Besides TF, no other mod can really help you...

I removed the feature for now... It's a shame. I like this hack.

I might install it again when I find out how to disable the feature for certain forums.

Well ok, it helps if you are too lazy to hit the edit button, but it hinders you if you plan to setup your posting carefully, so it is better to read - rather a bug than a feature. It also hinders you from keeping wide screenshots seperate from your text. So again, it stops you from posting in a way that is easier to read for others.
Unfortunately, there are many that are too lazy.

As for screenshots - I much prefer them to be linked so that you can click on them if you want to see them (especially over dial-up), but that is a minor convenience that I'm going to have to put up with (I can turn-off images).

I have just come to complain that it isn't working!

Oh well. Hope it returns soon.
