Aztec - Montezuma I Thread

It has been said that Amenities = basically happiness. You get amenities from luxuries for example.

What I dont understand is that why Aztec leader doesnt look Native American. In CIV I and CIV III he did. In CIV V and CIV VI he doesnt really look Native American at all.

We've seen Swordsmen having melee strength of 35. If Eagle Warriors replace warriors and have strength of 45, I wouldn't want to start near Aztecs.

We've seen Spearmen at 30 strength, though. So the numbers at this stage don't mean anything.
I don't think they'd have 45 but maybe 35. the rest may be bonus from luxuries

Glad it's not just me!

The video made it sound like they were a form of local happiness, so I think I'll go with that until more information is available.
I started a thread about it, I think you have to assign luxes to a city and you can only use them in a certain number of cities, like strategic resources but for cities.

Could play out that way.

Monty: "I stayed in a hotel in your Civ's capitol city last night and there was no complimentary coffee, tea or even a small refrigerator"

Monty: "You know what this means?"

Me: "You want a refund?"

Monty: "No, WAR you moron!"
yes, a blood refund, that's the Monty approach.

this is shaping up to be my kind of civ game, these extra uniques are exactly what we needed to make civs feel different and have a real vision.

I really don't understand that. In every interview ever they mention diplo agendas :p so we assumed they are one of most important features, yet they suddenly don't bother to describe agendas of latter half of revealed civs...

I just took this that they're highlighting what a civ would be like to you as a player. Of course the agendas are AI traits so they wouldn't come into play then. They could have just mentioned them anyways but it didn't really strike me as them being secretive or anything.

The base strength of Eagle W. is 28, +10vs. spearman; while common warrior is 20, +5vs. spearman.(according to well of souls )

However, according to well of souls, the spearman's strength is 30, while it is 25 in the video, so, the stat just change through different bulids.

i wonder if there is any functional difference between 'advantage' and 'combat'... also if the green is used to highlight that it is a one-off bonus against that unit or if it is supplied by a card

I'm torned apart by this announcement. On the one hand, I love the gameplay incentives to go after every luxury you can find to boost growth and military, coupled with farming other civs and CS units for even more city growth, its amazing.

The Tlachtli is an odd choice, but the effects are nice and synergic (besides it look nice on the map).

HOWEVER.

I'm really baffled about Monty's design, not only did they not even try to go the historical route, now he has designs elements that look out of something like SMITE.

Good:
-facial jade jewelry
-his animation is top notch, can't argue that.
-and believe it or not, the back thing everybody pointed out is the most Aztec of the whole thing, it looks like the back feathers designs the army would carry on the battlefield. (not exactly but close enough).
-No skulls

BAD
-That headress! I really don't know what's so hard about giving him a turquoise crown, it's not that hard to look for, it's in every damm Aztec codex, there's a bunch of paintings depicting emperors with the correct crown, not every piece of clothing must have feathers to look Aztec.
-The staff, seriously, look at that thing, it really looks like its going to charge up power and shoot lasers, it really gives of a SMITE vibe.

About the UB, I find it really strange that despite all the talk about taking advantage of geography, a civ famous for taking advantage of unlikely terrain doesnt get any bonus on that regard. No floating gardens is really disapointing.

Then again, the Huey Teocalli FINALLY makes it to civ, it was a shame that it wasn't included before, even more with the Aztecs being a classic of the franchise, maybe the old civ5 UA will be the Huey Teocalli bonus? it would make sense, resources on killed unit.

Anyway, as I said, it really torns me apart, I love what I'm seeing (and absolutely despise other stuff).

I think luxury resources give amenities too, but on a limited basis (so not for all cities, no idea how this works - distance? Road connection?)

If his unique ability is better combat from amenities I would guess he doesn't like those with luxuries he doesn't have.

They would get him pissed at everyone.

It is probably either.

He hates people who don't trade extra luxuries with him.

Or

He hates people with more luxuries than him on the same continent.

Or

He hates neighbors who don't trade with him

Aztec land game is their focus on amenities.

Floating Gardens were in Civ5, probably that's one of the reasons why they are not it.

I knew you'd appear!

Also, Eagle Warriors can only turn defeated enemies into Builders if they're NOT barbarians. So I guess early wars against city-States are in order. I hope that doesn't imply a HUGE diplomatic penalty as it was in Civ 5...

Despite the video mentioning you only get ammenities for luxuries you control, it would make sense for Monty not to go after you if you are willing to give him tribute (not trade, tribute) as in, give me that luxury or else, you refuse, he declares war takes your luxuries, cities and slaves.

Doesn't it sound like the Monty we all love?

Mixed on this. Hopefully this is the only 90-day civ.

The thing is, the floating gardens where not just for farming, the technique was used to build up most of Tenochtitlan, they could easily have made it a unique district that requires a river, swamp or lake. I just think given the game focus, it's a wasted oportunity.

haha, yeah I was waiting for the Aztec video, had to comment. I kinda like that they won't be farming barbarians like in civ5, and instead go after CS and rush civs, they mentioned the diplo penalties will be much lower early game this time around, it would also encourage to keep on bullying an easy acces CS's until you decide to annex it, feels much more Aztec TBH.

Well, one or more of these DLCs could be maps/scenarios only, and not new CIVs.

The Deluxe edition, is not comign with 4 exlusive DLCs, Even Babylon was made a regular DLC after a while, the way I see it Deluxe comes with four paid-for DLCs that we get a basically a season pass for. So the Deluxe get earlier access to them while everyone waits extra few days.

I mean, tha'ts mostly speculation but I highly doubt that they'd also make four civs exclusive to those with Deluxe edition of the game.

Did you also get to chop off the head of the loosing team's captain?
Actually, it was the winning captain who had the honor of being elevated as a sacrifice to his god.

As to the discussion about how many civs will be in the original game? I agree with those who think the original game will probably have 18 civs with the Aztecs and possibly some others as free later downloads - and not part of the DLC included in the deluxe edition. I wonder if there could be as many as 4 additional free civs, which could explain the 22 pics on the art video with 18 being in the original game and 4 being free downloads at a later time (at least, I'm hoping this is the case, although it's probably not).

Nobody commented on the Aztew Wonder (need practice first to write that down comfortably) is on a coastal tile? Can it only be placed there? Are Wonders placeable on water due to space constraints? Was it on water in real life and that's why they chose it? (need to google that) Or am I just making things up?
