Seeing all the school work, college work, etc has made me feel ancient. There is another 40 something here ;)
Though I am barely so.

Make that 2 players older than you :D Lee.

Singing in the rain,
The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plains... So I decide to irrigate some grasslands..:crazyeye:

1762:
Orange goo pops up in a few locations.

I decide Brideshead has outlived its usefullness. It is in danger of flipping from the cities around it. Basically it is a thorn in the side of the Japanese, but it is also a thorn for us, taking producion away from our nearby cities.

1764:
We complete Battlefield Medicine!

I decide to wait on destroying Brideshead..

1766:
France cancels our Spice for Coal deal. To continue they want coal, plus WM and 320 gold. I decline for now.

1768:
I hire an entertainer in Gotham.

Russia has Rocketry and Computers already!

I buy spices from France after seeing the effect of having 1 city rebel.. (from 17 gpt to 0)

1770:
mmow..

1772:
Just noticed, Satsuma has no defender at all!
Running 30% luxuries is killing us.. Anyone have an idea why our happiness is so low?

Minas Tirith is on Palace placeholder for UN.

1774:
India and Japan sign an MPP. Japan must be getting nervous.. :D

I switch Nyssia to wealth.

1776:
Shaka wants an MPP.. Since he is beginning to look like a likely target for us, I decline.

Russians are building Seti program! Their Mech Infantry is making me nervous..

1778:

1780:
Well, I learn the power of luxuries. Our economy went downhill a bit, and Fission is still 3 turns away, despite the fact I had to lower the science rate for only 1 turn.

We are building too much military. Thats my fault as I've been pumping it out like nobodys business.. Maybe switch some more cities to wealth?

We are so far behind in tech its scary. It'll be interesting to see what Padma and Lee do with it!

We need to go to war in my opinion and not with the zulu. Either the japs or the russians. Japan seems a likely target. Take Kyoto straight off and anything close to the border. The longer we wait the tougher it will it get. Just get France in an MPP so we dont have two front war. IF we can get fission and get the UN underway we shoudl give up science and switch to 100% taxes and buy mech inf. I dont worry about tech too much in early mod era. Only two are critical after fission (computers for mech and synthetic for mod armor). With appropriate wars the ai will never build a spaceship. If I was playng this game solo, on your turn i would have continued a tank buildup til i had about 20 then hit the japs with the tanks and artillery, raze as you go and fill in behind. I would have mibilized for the war and probably gotten about 8 new tanks per turn. The ai will go communist and start wrecking their infrastructure after a while. After Japan, the Russians and then the French. I dont see any point in atacking the zulu, they're weak and we cant get any use from their cities. Moving our offensive troops over there weakens the mainland if France Russia or Japan gets war happy.

Dont be too scared of the ai mechs. They probably only have a few. Tanks score good results against mechs if they are properly used in conjunction with artillery. Dont forget to build a few jets the ai proably has some bombers. Buidl a few bombers for homeland defense and keep the BB's for finishing off any bombarding ai naval units.

I've fought a fair bit off modern war and in my experience even with huge civs the ai never builds enough armor. The only ciritcal issue i see is that we are so crowded by some of ai countries we may take some dmage in our forward cities, but no pain no gain. The ai will go for those little cities right on their borders which are another nice reason to have them - you really dont care too much if they get pounded.

Hehe I used to think of myself as builder, now i realize i only build so i can win wars ........

My thoughts anyway... :egypt:

Good points Rain!

Just one thing about attacking Japan. They have an MPP with Russia, and so do we. So it would be a 3 way war almost immediately. I didn't want to jump into that at the end of my turn. Not to mention India and Japan.. As rain suggested, we shouldget an MPP with France to protect us from a war at both ends.

I built up both tanks and infantry. I think we have about 30 tank now.

Watch for global warming.. The AI are being pigs.. Of course, this further hampers their cities..

Good luck Padma!

EDIT: Forgot, I also built several bombers and a few fighters that are now on Air Superiority.

Another approach would be to go to 100% tax. Get some coin drop spies on Japan til they go ballsitic and delcare war. Send a worker into their territory and defend the border. Japn will attakc the owrker triggering our mpp with Russia and France (make sure you throw in Rop's so they can quickly invade Japan) if we get one. The ai should start a feeding frenzy before long and Japan will be scrap. If you're very careful you cna even let the allies do most fo the hard owrk and finish off cities they weaken. The oly downside to that is the allies will pillage the crap out of everything. Make sure you have settlers and workers lined up to enable rapid penetration of the enemy territory. Drop cities so you can capture squares with RR's farther into the enemy territory. Use your workers to RR along the path our forces take. The only bad thing about an MPP war is it will be a long one, since you cant bail out on your allies. :egypt: In this type of settlement penetration is the key. After the war is over you cna organize the cities to more sensible locations. Its expensive but it works like a charm.:egypt:

Well, a quick look around the map shows me that happiness infrastructure is low. A lot of cities don't have cathedrals, or marketplaces, or even colosseums! OK, we've been stressing military units lately. But without the 'feelgood' stuff, people start to get a little cranky.

BTW, the unhappy subjects I've asked have all responded: "It's 100% way too crowded". So on the high end, more hospitals will help, too.

I'll try to finish playing and post tomorrow.

Geez, I kinda assumed all those things were built by now.. :crazyeye:

I completed a few hospitals during my reign..

Preturn: Padma wins the election for a new president on his platform of domestic improvements. During the campaign, he traveled around the country, and was told time and again, "we are not happy". Padma was amazed. The country was spending fully a third of its annual income on measures to increase happiness, yet many people were still unhappy! Touring the many cities and towns that made up the country, he realized that many didn't have cathedrals, or marketplaces. Most had never even built colosseums. The presence of all these would improve the happiness of the land, so he decreed that the next structure built in most towns would be a happiness building. The situation was worst in the old former Chinese parts of the country. It was so bad in Gotham that he pulled out his governmental checkbook and paid the workers there overtime to complete their courthouse, that they might be more productive. Satisfied with these arrangements, Padma then looked over his foreign affairs. All our neighbors were polite, yet there was tension to the North. Looking over his armed forces, Padma was pleased. Based outside Beowulf were 27 divisions of Tanks, 29 divisions of Cavalry, and 16 divisions of Artillery. His predecessors had provided well for the common defense.

1) 1782: Citizens report nasty orange blobs have developed outside Algaria. Padma dispatches workers to clean up the mess. Surveying the countryside, and reviewing the notes of his predecessors, Padma concludes that they are, indeed, pigs. Padma has polite talks with Joan, and they agree that a Mutual Protection Pact would be useful, in case either were attacked. (MPP for MPP, straight up.) The new military units added this turn, however, put the government into deficit spending, so Padma takes a calculated risk, and lowers the science spending by 10%. It will take 2 more years (1 turn) longer to discover fission, but we should still be safe with that. And the budget jumps to a surplus of 114!

2) 1784: Padma reviews existing trade agreements, and sees that the incense trade with Japan has lapsed. We offor to renegotiate the deal. In return for Incense, Tokugawa will give us knowledge of Amphibious Warfare and 50 gold.

3) 1786: We discover fission! Minas Tirith is immediately cut over to building the... erm, what happened to the UN? It's not on the build list, and no-one else has built it. Did we turn off diplomatic victory? I'll hold for a few turns on Palace while I see if we can buy or steal some other advance to give us a better build. Pollution outside Minas Tirith.

4) 1788:

5) 1790:

6) 1792: Pollution outside Nyssia. Keep looking for another tech to buy. Everyone wants all our gold, and nearly all our per-turn surplus for anything they know that we don't. (Rocketry & Computers.) That being the case, I drop our science spending to zero, and work on building up cash.

7) 1794: Joan agrees to renegotiate our incense deal. We now get Computers and Rocketry for 700G + 26 gpt + incense + uranium. Minas Tirith is now set to work on the SETI Project (3 turns).

8) 1796: The people appreciate what Padma is trying to do. They add on to the Presidential Palace.

9) 1798: for 60 Gold and world map, Catherine agrees to extend our MPP. (It expired and she wanted to drop it.) I check with the foreign advisors, and find that Cathy and Tokugawa have cancelled their MPP! Only India is left with Japan now.

10) 1800: Russia declares war on Zululand! They take the two cities south of Dune in our far east. We complete the SETI Project. Pollution outside Minas Tirith.

The MPP with Russia MAY drag us into a war with Shaka. Since Cathy started it, and no attacks have been made on Russia, we are not yet obligated to go to war. We still have 10 turns of MPP with France if this get dicey, but I doubt it will. We have a force of 30 tanks, 29 Cavalry, 18 Artillery outside Beowulf, and a force of 11 tanks outside Erewhon. Most cities are currently building Mech Infantry. Next player (Lee) should be able to war with whomever he chooses.

ARRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGG - I hate MPP - only time I use them is after a war starts - IF I need help.
Sounds like I have some interesting turns coming up...

Oh yeah, did I mention Diplo win is off?  :crazyeye: :crazyeye:

Forgot all about that..

I know what you mean.. I would have been happy to let all those MPP between Russia, Japan and us die.. Interesting turns indeed..

Good luck!

Yeah. And here we were, almost building a palace, as a placeholder for something we could never build anyway!

And WHO started the palace for the UN? Hmmm?

I will take the :smoke: hit for that. I almost never use MPPs myself, but I thought I would gamble this time and use it in a war with Japan. I never expected Cathy to go take a swing at Shaka!

I guess I just have to live and learn. :crazyeye:

Pre-turn - It puts us a bit below $1000 - but we have a ton of mech infantry now.
Of course - many cities have no barracks, so still a long way to go.

The mystery - Since Zululands is the only landmass outside of the main one - why were there transports near Russia

I don't what people in this game have against factories - I find some large cities without them.

Germany / Russia ally versus the Zulu.
Palace expansion.

(1) 1802 AD - Play the troop shuffle - just 8 infantry left...

(2) 1804 AD - Our military advisor reports that we have no infantry left :)
Japan / Russia MPP.

(3) 1806 AD - Hmmm... The Zulu sunk a Russian ship - MPP didn't trip?
I revoke the Zulu RoP. I revoke the Incense deal with the Zulu.
India joins the we hate the Zulu club.
I order up a slew of settlers - wonder why?

(4) 1808 AD - The Heavy Bomber squad get the order - Bomb Isandlwana. But, sir we are not at war with the Zulu. We are now, and a massive pile of explosives begins to fall on the nation formerlly known as the Zulu. So begins the cross channel invasion of the Zulu. But Liz can't expain the feeling that this is backwards - England should be have been an island nation worried about a cross channel invasion. It is as if history itself feels distored.

I watch the Zulu have great luck - 2 of 3 attacking mech inf destroy ours.

(5) 1810 AD - Our Man-war impales itself on a Zulu sub.
Isandhlwana is RAZED - I refuse to take size 20 cities.
Coast City is resurcted - guess what quality reading source it is from?
I watch the Zulu impaled an obsence amount of infantry at our lead tank force - they got 7, but lost way more then that.

(6) 1812 AD - This game gets weird sometimes - I am bombing an "empty" square. Of course, my bomber showed the stack there. I love seeing 1 side of a battle. We destroy the 1 hp stack on infantry.

I can't beleive the Zulu again kill a mech inf with an attacking mech inf.
France / Germany mpp.

(7) 1814 AD - I don't know what is more absurd - Mpondo defending by rifleman, or that I lost a tank RAZING it. France declares war on Zulu.

(8) 1816 AD - The city of Bloom County is formed.
I must be mistaken - Mech Inf are great offense units - again the Zulu kill our DEFENDING mech inf.

(9) 1818 AD - The cities of Intombe and Ulundi are RAZED.
 The Frence have a stack of units by Hlobane - they may pollute our new continent.
Zimbabwe is razed - Oh gee, I really care about destroying the great wall.
The city of Nottigham is formed - and this DOES come from a literary book.
The city of Varos is formed - Care to figure out the source of this one?

(10) 1820 AD - I must thank France, the weakend Hlobane enough to let me raze it.
Gallifrey is formed.
I just saw the MOST pathetic performance ever. A french 1 hp mech inf died attacking a impi.
Science decision time - I go with Superconductor - I don't know if we can take over the world that fast.
The Appollo program is in progress.

(11) 1822 AD - Bapedia, Ngome, Swazi are RAZED.
I get this great message.

LAK-042.jpg

Twin peaks is formed. I did warn you that I am not a literature person - didn't I?
We know hava a source of Gems.
Jerusalem is formed.

Summary -
1) I have several settlers on the way - Get them to the former Zulu Island ASAP.
2) I start loading ships with troops. You still need to recall most of the troops back to the

mainland.
3) Appollo program started - so that we have the option for a space race.

Congrats on destroying the Zulu! Too bad about the great wall though.. On suggesting our target be the Zulu I was really after the Gems, which we now have!

Hey, no problems with the names.. I stated up front, ANY fictional names are OK!

Nottingham is indeed allowed..

Not too sure about Jerusalem. I had to think about that one.. some may argue THAT Book :jesus: is not fiction! :crazyeye:

 Oops - missed the fictional part -
The next player - Please fix that one.
The city is called "PleaseNameMe"

The next player better have a stack of names available - several spots left in the former Zulu area.

Well, without getting into theological discussions, the name was actually fine by me.. ;)
