Hello everyone! I decided to make another game (don't worry it is the last one I'll make in a long while). I'm not sure if enough people will be up for this; but there is no harm in trying.

I would like to start up a team game, preferably a game with 10-12 people so 5 or 6 teams of two (so expect a slower turnaround). The reason I want to do this is because most of my games are free for alls, which is fun in its own rights; but I thought I'd mix things up a bit.

Now then, if you want to join, you are allowed to team up with anyone you want. If you can't find someone or if you don't care who your team member is, we'll find you one. If we get enough people for this, then great! If not then oh well, it was worth a try.

As per usual with my games, no mods and no Ai. Everything else is on the table.

A couple of things I am curious about; what should we do about the map? Also should we have unrestricted leaders? Could make some interesting combinations.

I think Fractal is fine, or maybe Tectonics.

I'm not sure about unrestricted leaders. I definitely think we should be able to pick our civs and leaders. Sme fun combinations from a roleplaying perspective would be Rome-Byzantium and America-Russia.

Ok then, so does you posting here mean that you talked to Nighthawk and you both want to join? Or are we still waiting for confirmation?

Yes, he agreed to in an e-mail.

Yes I am in.

I generally like tech trading off, but considering its already a team game, maybe this is a situation where we could leave it on. You definitely need to make sure its launched with teams set appropriately, or else the balance is going to get screwed up.

Also, a small advanced start would be nice, or else it may die just from boredom with such a slow turnaround. 500-1000 points is all we need to get a little startup.

Ok 1000 points sounds fine. As for the teams being set, how can I make sure that one team member isn't on an isolated island? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Not really possible unless you use one of the more boring pre-set type of maps, like Hub or Circle or stuff like that. Even Pangea could work. But those maps aren't as fun. Even if we do maps with multiple large continents, its possible teammates could be on different continents and cut off from one another until caravels...

What if we found a third party, someone not playing the game, to make a custom map?

In my (LAN and Hotseat with my BFF) experience the map generator tries its best to put teammates relatively close to each other anyway, and Instant Karma confirms this assumption further. I say we go natural and in the unlikely event that the members of a team are too far away we could still restart with a more deterministic mapscript or even a mapmaker.

Do we really want tech trading on? Wouldn't the tech rate be fast enough with teams and 1000 points each to start?

Hey I'm fairly new to pbem but not to team games in general and this seems right up my street! I'd like to be a part of it if that's cool.

As for maps, team battleground is the way to go as it comes with the option of teams starting together. If you go low sea, lakes toritoidal then you get a very open map which looks like Pangea but with minimal coast and with the start together option you would start very close together and everyone would be open to attack and expand everywhere. Generally gives a tundra zone and an arid zone, but the arid zone has loads of flood plains and the tundra has deer. Think it might be what you're looking for?

You're welcome to join, glad to have you on board. Still trying to find enough people to join in. I will look into that map type, thanks.

By the way, ReallyEvilMuff, do you have a teammate in mind, or would you like me to look for one for you?

Glad to have you on board, I haven't really thought about turn order yet, have been trying to get enough players first.
