I heard a guy on the radio today discussing the option of literaly burying al-Zarqawi in a bacon suit. Obviously this would be done to discourage other muslims from martyring themselves, as their God would be unable to reach them thus denying them their 40 virgins, or whatever it is they believe.

I'll read some replies and arguments for and against before I cast my vote.

I heard a story, probably not real, that this used to be done in the Philippines about 100 years ago, when the US owned it. There were supposedly Muslim Filipino rebels there that were executed by firing squad but not until they were smeared with pig's blood, and buried with those same dead pigs. This was supposedly done by the legendary general Smedley Butler. Supposedly, this eliminated the resistance. I have doubts about the story.

In any case, I doubt it will do any good. As we've noticed on the OT message board, logic has no impact on religious beliefs. Even if every terrorist suicide bomber were covered in bacon at their burial, they would just reinterpret their beliefs to say that they're still martyrs because they died for the faith, and that the desecration was performed by infidels anyway. It'll more likely cause outrage, perhaps with the temporary result of more ineffective, but spectacular, attacks, but otherwise, no change.

Generally, pork and dog meat is forbidden as unclean.

However, in times of famine, and such, the Koran says, I believe, that pork and dog is acceptable food for survival.

In any case, a number of Muslims also drink, which is forbidden.

Note: I'm considering this question from a religious prospective.

Since it generally takes a day or more to bury a body, does this mean the soul hangs around the body until burial? I would think the soul would go to Heaven or wherever the 40 virgins hang out immediately after death. So if the body is wrapped in a bacon suit, does this mean the soul returns to the body?

Seriously, I think al-Zarqawi's body should be quietly disposed of in an unmarked grave in the middle of nowhere.

I have the same stand here. The iraqis/muslim are merely "defending" from what they "think" is an unjust war. A war with no moral standing. while most of us are here whining about the war and million across protesting. There are some few that went all the way to fight for what they think is right for them.

Thou i dont agreed with the way Zarqawi fight the war and think its totally unacceptable. burying him while insulting him will infused thousand or more or even millions around the globe for more protest and more recruits for the terrorist.

This is simply most unwise.
