Do you know if the barbarians advance as you do? I hate it when I am in the Modern Age and warrior barbarians attacks me in Civ3.

Maybe they will advance a little bit, but in middle age, there is not a lot / no barbs. They already advance. At the beginning, they are warriors, and then they become horses. But Barbarians, thopugh they are better than in civ2, have to get better. Maybe dialogs with barbarians, or really different barbarians. Barbarians declaring wars beteween them maybe. Or nomadics civ, as it was said in the nomadic civ thread. Here it is http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=115891

I have never seen barbarians in the modern age in my games! After the ancient age they are all whiped out! :)

I rarely see barbarians passed the Middle Ages. I think Civ 2 had it down better in regards that barbarians could pop up as guerrilas and fanatics during the Industrial and Modern Ages. I think they should put in domestic terrorism, though, during these ages and have it related to unhappiness, and with these new government options, have groups opposed to decisions (like if you decide to abolish slavery, some cities will have excessive terrorism going on).

Your more likely to see barbarians in later eras if you play on a large map and/or one with many inaccessible islands. Having your infantry attacked by a bunch of guys with stone axes is annoying, I admit, but what's really hilarious is when your cruisers are attcked by conscript galleys.
My hope for Civ IV is that civs will have to begin the game as barbarian tribes and then develop to build cities.

Not a bad idea.
