The number of people playing multiplayer is TINY compared to the number of people who play singleplayer. It occurred to me a contributing reason could be the fact that barbarians will spawn and move both at the beginning of the turn. This does not happen in singleplayer, and is the reason why you see so many "noobs" lose thier settler/worker. They don't see any barbs, and "bamf!" next turn the unit is captured. Then the player disconnects, not wanting to waste their time without their initial settler. And perhaps they never return... in public games I remember unusual player names, and so many of those unusual player names I never see again.

Yeah barbs are far more numerous in multiplayer. I've never seen eight to ten Brutes swarming a city state or some poor capital until I played some games with random people.

And as Dave said, if you don't like them, don't put them in the settings.

You can always turn off barbarians so you aren't responsible for them quitting. ;)

Yes, playing without barbs is common, but most public games that are set up contain those rage-quit--causing barbs.

When France is picked, the rage quit happens earlier than any other civ ...

Here is an idea for the developers - for MP make option: "barbs spawn and move same turn on/off."

Yea it is funny, often I hear "is it raging barbs?" because very early some players will have an army of barbs show up.

If there is a really nice city spot between you and another player, getting there first is a big deal... if a barb camp is there and you have just 1 unit to escort the settler, there is a small chance a second barb is near the camp and a 3rd spawns just as you pass the camp, killing your unit and capturing the settler (for pple who make level prince, this has never happened, just on the higher levels.) To be safe have 2 units, but if there is a delay you risk the other player getting there first.

I don't host games, for some reason if I do anything bigger than a duel the lag is huge.

Or...another player ''shift-entered'' his unit and discover a worker on next turn...then BAM! Rage quit!!!

PROTECT YOUR UNITS WHEN YOU GO OUTSIDE!!!
