kilwa was a collection of trading city states, could have an ability that boosts loyalty via trading from other cities of your empire
True, not all leaders/civs need to fit into the new mechanisms, Kilwa would probably be a mercantile civ. But I still think the African civ will be one never seen before (Ashanti or Kilwa), I do not see evidence that Mali or Ethiopia will be added.
Some civs are under strict NDAs to help keep them a secret. They have to keep some of the Civs a secret. They can't spoil them all. I'm hoping to be surprised by their Civ/Leader selections.
I'm working on a spread of civs and I think it will be in order from east to west
1) Korea (crown in trailer, been in the last 3 games)
2) Mongols (featured in trailer, been in every previous game
3) Georgia (Tamar is much mentioned leader and fits the categories stated for new leaders)
4) Byzantium (Huge hole in Rome Map, Been in last 3 games) could also be Carthage (also Ottomans)
5) Netherlands/ The Dutch ( in trailer, been in last three games)
6) Ghana (a guess but it fits with the themes) Could also be one of the Niger River civs like Mali
7) Apache (the big gap in civ's line up so far has been NA civs and I think we will get at least one here)
8) Inca (Once again no new American Civs in DLC so I think they will change it here, and Inca is the most well known of the SA civilization also been in last 3 games)
there are of course some other potentials like Portugal, Babylon, Assyria, Canada etc. but I think we might actually see some more DLC between EX Packs this time round
Ok so far i have been 2 for 2, looks like everything is coming up Milhouse
@bite Replace the Apache with another Native American civ and your list will make me ecstatic.(The Apache aren't an inherently bad choice--it's just I can think of others that would please me more.)
By Ghana, I'm not sure if you are referring to the modern day nation of Ghana or the Medieval Ghana Empire. I'm not sure either will work as Civs, Ghana being too recent (I have little interest in modern African countries becoming Civs, give me the pre-Colonial), and the Ghana Empire lacking information on their leaders (no wiki page on any of them). I would replace it with another African Civ, like Ashanti, Benin, Mali, or Ethiopia.![]()
A known issue.
I agree we seem to be getting a lot of hints. I suspect it's a new marketing strategy, aimed at getting exactly the sort of engagement that's happening in this forum. I expect more unconventional "leaks" like the Dutch tv show.I don’t know how it was for Civ V’s expansions, but it looks and feels to me that they have gone out of their way to give a lot of information, first on the Expansion announcement video, then with Civ teases and hints galore on a Twitter, etc., and with the early releases of info in the country of the Civ being announced. Add to that the surprising, to me and many others, wonder video confirming one of the wonders we’ve spent so much time, research and speculation. Why not keep us guessing? It seems that they’re bending over backwards to keep the discussion going with so many hints and leaks, etc. It hasn’t been like that for DLC’s, for sure, nor for the vanilla release. So, what’s up with them? New people at helm or overall strategy from day one?
I was really hoping our first expansion would bring in a bunch of North and South American native groups in a 'New World' theme. No such luck. If anything, this theme lends itself to more colonies rather than natives.
We'll get one new civ for sure. I'm hoping for Ghana or a Native American. It is probably Canada though.
Maya and Inca are both well suited to the expansion. If Korea was teased, then that seems likely. I can't imagine them leaving the Ottomans and Mongolia out even longer and both fit the theme well.
So my prediction is:
Mongolia
Ottomans
Maya
Inca
Canada
Korea
Byzantines
Ghana/Mali/Songhai
The Maya have to be there. It's hard to find a more clear example of a sharp rise and fall. Byzantines similarly fit the theme.
I put Ghana in my prediction for two reason: 1) that's a massive portion of African history that is currently being ignored and 2) That region has had three major empires, all rising and falling into one another.
Of all the potential new double leader civs, Ghana/Mali seem most likely as one civ represented by two leaders for their individual empires.
If the alt leader isn't for a new civ, then my guess is either France, India or Egypt. All three have poor and unpopular leader choices in the base game.
Well this year we will get more alternate leaders, so it is possible we'll get a female alt leader for Arabia but I don't think it's going to be this expansion.A known issue.
Though I always thought it was too much to have two Arab leaders who were not classical Arabs (a Kurd and a Yemenite).
Hi all,
Although I have been lurking on CivFanatics for a long time, this is my first post. I thought I would join the guessing game and drop my guesses.
Obviously those two were revealed already:
Korea
Netherlands
Canada
Some western North American tribe - Soshone or Navajo I guess
Incas
Kilwa or Swahili
Mongolia
Ottomans
Isabella of Castile as alternate leader for Spain - Completing the Reconquista, uniting Spain and originating the Spanish colonization of the Americas sound like a Golden Age.
It would be very likely the Navajo would get the Code Talkers ability, boosting their espionage ability.Good guesses. If we would get a NA-tribe, i hope we won't get the Shosone but the Navajo.
