[R&F] Based on the new features - which civilizations and leaders should be introduced in R&F?

A little late in noticing the expansion announcement, but I would like to suggest Finland as a candidate for a new civilization. Either Sibelius or Mannerheim could be the leader of such a civ.

2017 is the 100th anniversary of Finnish independence and the 73rd anniversary of the 1944 armistice, which forced Finland to cede some of its territory to the Russians, in the form of Viipuri (2nd largest city in Finland), almost all of Karelia, Petsamo and Salla.

The Hungarians could also be added a civ, given that they would fit the rise and fall theme of the new expansion. The Hungarians originated in Siberia, migrated to Central Europe and than battle the Czechs, Austrians, Ottomans and various other groups for control of what we now know as Hungary. As a nation, Hungary has expanded and contracted numerous times during its history, including numerous periods, where part or all of the country was subject to foreign occupation.

The Kingdom of Prussia could also be added as an alternate option for Germany, given that it to follows the rise and fall theme of the expansion.

Prussia started out as a small nation consisting largely of Brandenburg and the Duchy of Prussia, but eventually expanded to include Pomerania, Silesia, West Prussia and various other territories. It shrank briefly during the Napoleonic wars, but rebuilt itself and grew even stronger. However, it then collapsed for good following WW2, when all the German territory east of the Oder-Niesse line was given to Poland and the 11 million Germans living there were expelled.

True, not all leaders/civs need to fit into the new mechanisms, Kilwa would probably be a mercantile civ. But I still think the African civ will be one never seen before (Ashanti or Kilwa), I do not see evidence that Mali or Ethiopia will be added.

They have to keep some of the Civs a secret. :p They can't spoil them all. I'm hoping to be surprised by their Civ/Leader selections.

I'm working on a spread of civs and I think it will be in order from east to west

1) Korea (crown in trailer, been in the last 3 games)
2) Mongols (featured in trailer, been in every previous game
3) Georgia (Tamar is much mentioned leader and fits the categories stated for new leaders)
4) Byzantium (Huge hole in Rome Map, Been in last 3 games) could also be Carthage (also Ottomans)
5) Netherlands/ The Dutch ( in trailer, been in last three games)
6) Ghana (a guess but it fits with the themes) Could also be one of the Niger River civs like Mali
7) Apache (the big gap in civ's line up so far has been NA civs and I think we will get at least one here)
8) Inca (Once again no new American Civs in DLC so I think they will change it here, and Inca is the most well known of the SA civilization also been in last 3 games)

there are of course some other potentials like Portugal, Babylon, Assyria, Canada etc. but I think we might actually see some more DLC between EX Packs this time round

Ok so far i have been 2 for 2, looks like everything is coming up Milhouse

@bite Replace the Apache with another Native American civ and your list will make me ecstatic. :D (The Apache aren't an inherently bad choice--it's just I can think of others that would please me more.)

By Ghana, I'm not sure if you are referring to the modern day nation of Ghana or the Medieval Ghana Empire. I'm not sure either will work as Civs, Ghana being too recent (I have little interest in modern African countries becoming Civs, give me the pre-Colonial), and the Ghana Empire lacking information on their leaders (no wiki page on any of them). I would replace it with another African Civ, like Ashanti, Benin, Mali, or Ethiopia. :D

I like the look of the Queen Tamar and the legends around her but what about their abilities as a civ should they be in
If the Mongols are in the game and may have a keshik and Scynthia has horse archers already what is left for them? How can they be made distinct? The greatness of the period is tied to the battles they won so it has to be some kind of military ability? Perhaps some kind of military religious unit crossover? points towards golden ages for killing?

Well, the Georigan UU probably shouldn't be any kind of Knight. Their knights got slaughtered by a significantly smaller force of Mongol horse archers at the Battle of Caucasus Mountain.

They along with Byzantium are the ones I am not 100% sure on, I think there will be one from those regions, but not which ones they will be

I don’t know how it was for Civ V’s expansions, but it looks and feels to me that they have gone out of their way to give a lot of information, first on the Expansion announcement video, then with Civ teases and hints galore on a Twitter, etc., and with the early releases of info in the country of the Civ being announced. Add to that the surprising, to me and many others, wonder video confirming one of the wonders we’ve spent so much time, research and speculation. Why not keep us guessing? It seems that they’re bending over backwards to keep the discussion going with so many hints and leaks, etc. It hasn’t been like that for DLC’s, for sure, nor for the vanilla release. So, what’s up with them? New people at helm or overall strategy from day one?
I agree we seem to be getting a lot of hints. I suspect it's a new marketing strategy, aimed at getting exactly the sort of engagement that's happening in this forum. I expect more unconventional "leaks" like the Dutch tv show.

As an American who can barely communicate in any language except English, I am grateful for the civ fanatics scattered across the globe who can spot these clues.

I have a hunch the Ottomans are going to be in over Byzantines, both would be nice though. Where are the West African fanatics at?:)

I was really hoping our first expansion would bring in a bunch of North and South American native groups in a 'New World' theme. No such luck. If anything, this theme lends itself to more colonies rather than natives.

We'll get one new civ for sure. I'm hoping for Ghana or a Native American. It is probably Canada though.

If Korea and the Netherlands were teased, then they seems likely. I can't imagine them leaving the Ottomans and Mongolia out even longer and both fit the theme well.

So my prediction is:

Mongolia
Ottomans
Maya
Netherlands
Canada
Korea
Byzantines
Ghana/Mali/Songhai

No way we're getting more modern Europeans than the Netherlands. Not if they're trying to balance things out this time.

The Maya have to be there. It's hard to find a more clear example of a sharp rise and fall. Byzantines similarly fit the theme.

I put Ghana in my prediction for two reason: 1) that's a massive portion of African history that is currently being ignored and 2) That region has had three major empires, all rising and falling into one another.

Of all the potential new double leader civs, Ghana/Mali seem most likely as one civ represented by two leaders for their individual empires.

If the alt leader isn't for a new civ, then my guess is either France, India or Egypt. All three have poor and unpopular leader choices in the base game.

Anybody have a compiled list of all civ leaks/hints?

I suspect it will include a little bit of everything, but more Europeans than anything. Probably only 1 North Native American and the Inca. If they skimp on any continent, I would guess Africa.

Netherlands
2 other Europeans
Korea
Mongols
Ottomans
Inca
North Native American
European alt-leader

Hi all,

Although I have been lurking on CivFanatics for a long time, this is my first post. I thought I would join the guessing game and drop my guesses.

Obviously those two were revealed already:
Korea
Netherlands

Canada
Some western North American tribe - Soshone or Navajo I guess
Incas
Kilwa or Swahili
Mongolia
Ottomans
Isabella of Castile as alternate leader for Spain - Completing the Reconquista, uniting Spain and originating the Spanish colonization of the Americas sound like a Golden Age.

A known issue.
Though I always thought it was too much to have two Arab leaders who were not classical Arabs (a Kurd and a Yemenite).
Well this year we will get more alternate leaders, so it is possible we'll get a female alt leader for Arabia but I don't think it's going to be this expansion.

Now that the reveal schedule is moving westward just like the trailer the next queen reveal should be a maya. Teased with a white flower, a jungly coastal landscape and the shape of a jaguar

On a different topic
Also thinking about that French flag in North America - it is a sign of French North America (AKA) Canada being in the game.

So guesses
Korea
Netherlands
Maya
Canada
Mongols
African nation
Georgia
Italy
Spain gets Isabella

Good guesses. If we would get a NA-tribe, i hope we won't get the Shosone but the Navajo. I'm not sure if we will get Otto or Byzantines (especially if we would have Kilwa. Kilwa would probably mean, no second Islam civ that also is maritime-focused). Byzantines would align nicely to the expansion's features (basically anyone does). I'm not sure about the Inca. They seem a bit absent in the whole build-up of the expansion (but aside of Canada, basically any civ does. Maya's would however align very beautifully with this expansion's feature). West-Africa is also absent in your list. I'm actually starting to believe we won't get a North American tribe, but a West-African civ. The Bazaar (Unique Commercial Hub, the only major district that doesn't have a UD) could actually point towards the Ottomans (and then the kilwa wonder would then just be Firaxis' recognition of the civ). It's hard, since 8 civs seems a low value, but still a very good guess.

Welcome on the forums!
