Basic Start help needed please: Kublai Khan/Warlord.

@ michmbk - I'm in HR, and have built loads of archers - one city has 5/6 of them and at one point 23 turns of cruel oppression to work through....

There's an article in the war academy that discusses Happiness. Might be a good time to review it.

@ all: I think my whipping sucks. I see people do 2-3 pop whips and I only seem to be able to whip 1 pop, which then grows back to full unhappiness in 2 turns with added cruel oppression!

Again, check in the War Academy.

played a little bit further if you are interested... up to 1190.

save at 1140 is before first DoW, the 1190 is enemy cleared and I think in 1-2 turns max I will DoW next one.

After MT I started in Taj Mahal GA whip Heavy Footman (originally Cuirassiers!) army as usual. at 1140 I had smaller stack ready (around 18 cuirs... but that is sufficient, at Emperor I would normally wait up to 25+-).

I peace vassaled HC though ;-)

right now my tech is going for Astro and building galleons... domination obvious target. I will wipe clear continent except for HC who is peace vassal

Thanks again guys.

@VoiceofReason, thanks for the links. I forgot about the War Academy and just looked through the articles board.

@Vranasm, I think I'm going to send out a couple of Settlers and then DoW on HC - Our Close Borders are sparking tension. He has a ton of land to expand too behind and he took my floodplains .....

125 AD shadow
Spoiler :
Ugly game, played through many interuptions. Naturally, in this situtation I took the easy road: *keshiks after settling 3 more cities. 2nd city was the horse/fish/sheep site, 3rd went for gold. Keshiks got 4 cities from Issy and 3 from HC netting Stonehenge and Oracle. No wonders built by me. Wondering about going afer Sitting Bull next. Economy hasn't completely crashed yet. Somehow got monarchy and almost to CS. Not really paying attention to what I'm doing. Just quick to the DoW option. No pics, can't upload ATM.

620 AD (big spoiler)
Spoiler :
I did decide to go after SB with keshiks and kept going after Frederick. I own my continent at 620 AD, capturing the mids, partho and GLH. It looks close for domination to be possible on the continent alone. Probably a little short. Galleys will be commissioned to see if there is enough land via islands for the dom win pre-astro. I never razed a city and the economy hasn't crashed. :goodjob:

@jggymnrr

Spoiler :

I rushed with chariots only Issy. Dunno why people suggested at first page Axe rush.

Then I somehow thought about keshiks too, but stick to my usual trick with Cuirs, will be later finish then yours.
Absolutely astonished by the lack of improvements in AI's land in 1190AD!!

Final spoiler. Not my best game but:
Spoiler :
1130 AD domination win. Barb galleys kept appearing somewhere west which made me think there was enough land for easy domination. Overproduced settlers, 42 cities on continent and large island with settlers left over. Built MOM since I went for GA from music artist and GL since there wasn't much else to do. Got Sci Meth and was about to lib communism for lack of a better idea. 50% economy ~650 beakers per turn, running rep and pacifism. (I was building units not buildings!) Never met the other civs which were purple and yellow in replay. (Rags and Rammy?)

Odds against barbs seem awfully good at this level like 95% for trireme vs galley and pretty good for galley vs galley.

So, I slept on it overnight and decided to take a different route.

I reverted to an earlier save, the one with 1 turn to Oracle completion, and bulbed mathematics. I then researched Calendar for Silk and Incense. In the interim I sent out 4-5 (can't remember exactly) and with one of them I settled the beaver.

After that I went Alphabet - HBR, but no AI has anything to trade really. Capac was going for all the religious and art techs I think, He founded Hinduism, Confucianism and Christianity and spread them all to me. In the end I spread Buddhism, and went Buddhist cos I knew I was going to declare on him and didn't want brothers and sisters of the faith unhappiness.

Long story short, I built libraries and gers nearly everywhere, over-produced Keshiks and took 4 of his 5 cities (one I razed). He's not really improved anything except farming flood plains, 1 iron and about 6 wineries. No hills improved at all.

I've scouted out both Fred and Sitting Bull and they are very similar.

Winning this will be pretty easy now and, to be honest, I think it's time to move on and maybe try a new scenario at Noble lvl.

What do you think?

Save is attached. I've probably made a few mistakes. Screen-shots can be uploaded if you would like to see them.

What do you think?

Wise - once you've established a dominating position, there isn't a lot useful to be gleaned from icing the win.

As you've noticed with the reloads, there is something to be said for replaying a start to learn how to reach that dominating position sooner. You should definitely move on if you are bored with the map.

For your current purposes, where you are posting positions and getting assistance -- yeah, you want to move on; the advice that you are going to get on a second playthru is not going to differ significantly from what you did the first time around.

Thanks for that feedback, confirmed what I was feeling.

Yeah, the map was odd to be honest, and none of the AIs I met were teching at all. I did a few resource trades just for some happiness. I did manage 1 good trade, HC asked me to give him a tech and I managed to negotiate a tech and some 45 gold for it, so that was good. Taught me not to say yes immediately :)

I think I roll another random Noble leader this time and see what comes up....
