I have been working on a 250 for four days now and I am halfway there. Size does not matter.

This thing takes forever I'm now 8200/20000. After nearly a week.

I'm at 7800/20000 after a day and a half. Are most WU's smaller? or is this a typical size. Just curious.

This page has the info on each current WU project number. The points(credit) each WU are worth are a reasonable guide to how long they will take to finish. A small WU worth a few dozen points can be finished in hours or a large WU of hundreds of points can take a week or even two weeks to finish, depending upon your system specs, how many other processes you are running, and if you are running your folding at 100% (which there's no reason not to as long as you're not overheating).

Remember, it's not a sprint, but a marathon. Even if you can only donate a WU every other week that is still very welcome. There are users on the team that don't donate much, but it's the fact that they do contribute what they can that makes it great.

Sahk: it's like you rise from oblivion to post in this thread!

Not quite ready for the decent into oblivion just yet (or ever ;)). I just don't have the time or desire to jump into the OT fray like I once did. Getting GalCiv2 has done terrible things to my available free time too. Spare time? Heck no...I've got computer games!

This is an excellent point. Every WU you perform, even it takes time, is a work unit that gets in earlier than it would have, probably by a couple days (even with the faster computers).

The project is done in waves. The sooner one wave is done, the sooner another can be started. Even if it takes a WU a week to be done, it saves days in the process.

Yeay! just to stay FaH works again for me.. so im folding away.. think ive lost too much ground to recover my position.. but fun all the same :)

And the dust is settling on my office move. The Celeron Herd is almost certainly permanently to pasture, but I should be able to add a few machines here and there.

I wonder if 24/7 pitboss and F@H are reasonably compatible?

indeed :) might get overhaeting issues, but looknig into getting a cooler

You can lower the max processing to 50% or so to keep it cooler..

What's that with the avatar being bigger, is it allowed to be 80x80 now? I'll cook up a new one then, but it still says 70x70 in the upload thingie..

Well done Kan :D

Just because im a agent for TF.

I've emailed the suggestions thingy for the people who look after all the bham.ac.uk computers again to request we do a distributed-computing project. I mentioned F@H. I'll keep spamming them once a month until I get a response! :mischief:

Just out of interest, any miracles yet ? I occasionally peek at this thread and it's always been full of hearty back-slapping, but I haven't seen any medical discoveries mentioned. It's possible I've missed them.

For devil's advocate, any view on the additional energy being used by your folding efforts, keeping the PCs going all the time ? In the context of the recent report on global warming, is it really more sensible chasing after what appears to be a low probability of making any significant scientific discovery, against making a (probably insignificant, I hope) contribution towards irreversibly changing our climate ?

The person who discovers a way to solve all our problems will be cured by the results of our folding.
